devilsfan26
If you combine the first two periods of the game against Russia with this game's third period, it would be one amazingly insane game.

Derek21
The U.S. D is a joke. If not for Montoya the first two periods, the Swiss would have been up by a couple of goals. Montoya must feel like he's on the Rangers. Every play in the defensive end is like a firedrill. The Swiss deserved to win that game. They outplayed and outworked Team USA most of the game. They're winning just on skill right now. That won't work against the stiffer competition. Callahan played a whale of a game. Kessel is amazing. I can see what all the hype is about. Stafford made a nice shot on the PP. Schremp looked good on his goal going top shelf. I don't know what happened after that. Guess the D continued to run around. When I turned it back on, it went from 5-2 to 5-4. I know one of the goals was bad just from the highlights they showed. I don't know about the other one. Hensick's goal was nice. He got more ice-time and played well. Like I said, he's a player. O'Sullivan got a big goal too. Lee didn't look comfortable out there. The only guys on D I trust are Suter and Hagemo. Anyone else and it's panic time. Last year, the D was much steadier. They didn't panic as much. That's the difference. If the D was better, they could beat Canada. To hell with what all the experts say. We have as many skilled forwards as them. We have a better big game goalie. I noticed again that when the game was hanging in the balance, Montoya made some key saves to keep it at 6-4. I just worry about the D. Why didn't they select Jack Johnson if he was so good? Derek21
the first 3 Montoya goals werent weak, the last one was You're right. I wish I had seen the screened one so I could judge. The fourth one was brutal. The one thing about the first goal that I would have liked to seen Montoya do was try to cover it up. I realize the guy was allowed to stuff it in four times. But if he could have controlled the rebound, that's not scored. His rebound control has been an issue in the first two games. And it's clearly obvious that his D is not the best at taking guys down low. So, he has to be sharp. They play Belarus next on Wednesday. It won't be televised until 9:30 PM on ESPN2. That will be on 2 hour delay I believe. Just a heads up.
bruins4777
Derek, the question about jack johnson vs. brian lee has been hanging around for a long long time. Nobody really knows. With forwards situation can be an excuse, but defense it makes no sense. As for montoya, i think ur just making excuses He's overrated and he's showing it. The swiss goalie is good, but lacks consistency and stamina. He has the ability to make huge saves, but needs to work on doing it when facing them constantly. good to know my boy suter is doing good. As for why the d is so much more nervous? Its obvious no Mark Stuart Suter is a good leader, but he is no mark stuart. Stuart has the ability to calm everybody down. Also, the defense is obviously much younger. but the lack of stuart is obvoius.....yes i love stuart
Derek21
Honestly bruins, I think he gets too much heat. I didn't expect him to repeat last year's performance. It's just too much pressure. And it's not the same team on D. Technically, he's given up 3 bad goals out of the 8. But he's also made some timely stops when his team needed it. I'm not ready to throw in the towel on him. I'd like to see some better two-way hockey. That would help a lot.

Derek21
Slovakia shuts out Finland 2-0. I'll try to find a boxscore for this. Since boxscores aren't up, here's a recap instead: For Immediate Release December 27, 2004 Finland shut down by Slovakia; lose 2-0 in Thief River Falls Slovakia's Tomas Bulik stepped into the low slot, took a feed from linemate Stefan Ruzicka, and buried the puck between the legs of Finnish goaltender Tuukka Rask, putting Slovakia ahead for good in its World Junior Tournament game in the Ralph Engelstad Arena in Thief River Falls, MN. The goal turned out to be all the offense Slovakia would need, as they shut out Finland 2-0. Slovakian defenseman Andrej Petri Matikainen said, "Our offensive game was not good enough, our game was a bit nervous. It just didn't work out tonight." Finnish goaltender Tuukka Rask had another excellent performance, stopping 25 shots and keeping Finland in the game. He earned player of the game honors for Finland. Coach MatikaiMezaros added an empty-net goal in the final minute of the game to seal the win. He was named player of the game for Slovakia for his efforts at both ends of the rink. Slovakia played a tight defensive game, using "maximum discipline, and following exactly the plan we want to play," according to coach Dusan Gregor. Slovakian goaltender Jaroslav Halak stopped all 18 shots he faced, earning the shutout and the win. This was a big win for Slovakia, bouncing back from a loss against Canada on Saturday. Coach Gregor said, "For us it was a very big game." After scoring 4 power play goals against Germany on Saturday, Finland was 0-5 with the man advantage against Slovakia, although they had a number of good chances to score. Finnish coachnen said, "He [Rask] has been really good for us." By Jeff Swanson Edited December 28, 2004 by Derek21

Don
If we are beating Sweden 8-1, the Germany game tonight should be scary. Then again, at the World Juniors, Canada has this terrible history of playing down to the talent of the opposition. (ie being overconfident, not bringing their A game, playing sloppy, and giving the game away).

Derek21
Can I have a scouting report for Ryan Callahan? I believe he's Rangers property but I've heard barely anything about him. He plays a smart all around game. Very gritty and has a deceptive slap shot that can create rebounds. He seems to be one of the better two-way players on Team USA. A high energy guy and a fixture on the PK. He has played very well in the first two games. Looks like a third line two-way forward.
