High Trade Value

Brodeur, Nieds, Elias, and Raf aren't going anywhere. Madden is safe as well.

Gomez, Friesen, Nieuwendyk(a given), Brylin, and Berglund would be my top picks for being part of a some kind of trade. It's all a guessing game anyway with Lou.

Safe ppl on this team: Marty, Elias, Gomez, Nieder, Raf, Stevens, White.

Everyone else is open game. Package Bergy and Bicek G w/ Danton, you get someone good in return. But as of right now, no need for that but a trade involving this team will happen at the deadline, it always does and this year is no different. Just hoping for a Kovy in return and not a Sean O'Donnell.

The answer isn't simple LetsGoDevils.. I'd say Brodeur, Niedermayer, Rafalski, and Elias have the *lowest* trade value.. no team can deal for one of them without giving us two players.. which, in essence, is a reduction.. one great player is almost unilaterally better than two good ones, especially for this Devils club which has already run into problems with forward and defensive depth this season.

Berglund and Tverdovsky are two guys that would interest other teams enough for them to be dealt for players that are *better*. That's about it for the Devils. Danton, Bicek, Friesen do not have that much value.

Sorry for the confusion of the words "high trade value" in my opinion it would be players that would bring more value to the team.

IMO Brodeur, Elias, Rafalski & Nieder would be high trade value, 2nd tier below that would be Madden & Gomez. After that there isn't anyone IMO that would be able to get something or someone better for the Devils.

Stevens would only be a rent a player if Devils paid half his salary, IMO

People here might not realize it, but Colin White has extremely high trade value. The reason is simple; he has it all:

1. All-Star talent

2. Size

2. Youth

3. Salary

There are only a handful of large young defensive defensemen in the NHL that are as big as him, as experianced as him and as talented as him. Any team that needs a top pairing defenseman will easily cough up a first liner for White.

Others with high trade value

Rafalski: low salary, high point production, defensively responsable, under 30

Niedermayer: Reputation, skill, medium-high point production BUT: expensive

Gomez: point producer, playmaker, very cheap, very young

Elias: Proven 40 goal scorer at the age of 27

Madden: Selke winner with good offensive talent, reasonably cheap, under 30

Brodeur: No explanation needed, but will never be traded

These are the guys that have elite trade value, they would return 1st liners. The following players have very high trade value, but have at least one thing detracting from their value.

Langenbrunner, Tverdovsky, Berglund, Gionta

These players would return less than they are worth to the Devils:

Stevens, Nieuwendyk, Friesen, Daneyko, Bicek, Rupp, Stevenson, McKenzie, Pandolfo, Schwab

Fifteen games over .500, can we hold off on the trade talk for a few nights please ;) I like the chemistry the team's shown all year. I like the recent cohesion of the lines. Really the Devils don't need to deal at this time. Especially now that they're 15 games over and not 7 or 6. And especially since the big guys are finally getting it going, which us true realists have been pointing out all year was almost certain to happen sooner or later and once it did the team would be a force to be reckoned with.

High trade value would be determined by the needs of the team we are trading with.

Not every team has the same need:

* Boston needs goaltending,

* Atlanta and Montreal need defensive defensemen

*Nashville and Calgary need goal scoring, *Colorado and San Jose need penalty killers

Colin White does not have high trade value. Teams always keep players like Colin White because you don't get first liners for them.. they're virtually untradeable. Now if White put himself into the top 20 defensive d-men, perhaps he'd have some worth.. but why has Ken Daneyko been a Devil all this time? White would have to have another season like this to have any sort of trade value where the Devils would benefit.

The only players the Devils could immediately benefit from by dealing are Berglund and Tverdovsky. The rest would be lateral moves, 1 for 2 deals that the Devils don't need, or silly All-Star for All-Star moves that don't make any sense..

And yes, this is a trade thread.. because trade value doesn't correspond with 'real' value for the Devils.. guys like White and Madden are more valuable to the Devils than they are trade. So we're talking about two different things here.
