LetsGoDevils
I think the State should keep the Death Penalty, but the Dems in power in NJ feel that with the State's massive debt and other woes, now is the time to do away with it.

Devilish34
YOUR tax dollars at work. How much does it cost to supply those ppl 3 hots, a cot, and health care.???
Devils731
YOUR tax dollars at work. How much does it cost to supply those ppl 3 hots, a cot, and health care.??? Which is more expensive depends on how you calculate the cost of things. Since NJ hasn't used this in 40 years it means we pay for the 3 hots, a cot, and health care plus all the legal costs of the appeals process which is crazy long. oofrostonoo
Idk what to think about this. If it's proven that the death penalty doesn't deter crime, it doesn't really have a place. If it does deter crime than it does. But executing 1 guy a year isnt exactly an efficient way to save money. If we were executing people at a rate where we were saving a huge amount of money we would probablly look like some middle eastern country that loves to execute. It is a good thing to get rid of it. The cost and time of the appeal process plus the chance of killing the wrong the person made the price of keeping too great. RowdyFan42
Come quick, children! Look how deftly the right-wingers spin! Trapped in a corner, they skillfully change the subject! It is truly a work of art!
Satans Hockey
I'm all for the death penalty but I do think spending a life in prison is a much worse sentence. If I was sentenced to life in prison I would want to be killed.

Don
Since 1973 126 people in the United States have been RELEASED FROM JAIL - OFF OF DEATH ROW - because they have been found to be innocent of the crime they were charged with. How many others are in there simply because the public defenders are falling asleep at their benches because they are overworked? I'd like to know what the right-wingers "acceptable percentage" is? Is killing 10% innocent people okay if you get 90% murderers?

Still doesn't change the fact that, having lost your death penalty argument, you're desperately trying to move the discussion to a topic where you think you'll have a better chance of winning. Is killing 10% innocent people okay if you get 90% murderers? I'd say about 40% Don. Sends a better message to the criminal who is 12 or 13 and deciding on a life of crime. You're a clueless socialist lib who thinks rehab works at the taxpayers expense... wrong and you're clueless! Actually would like to up it to 50% and why is your topic saying NJ Death Penalty when u bring up US stats? Concentrate on Canada and the many issues you have with Arabs gaining access to the US to destroy points of interest here and stop worrying about how we handle justice. Also, lets see where you get your stats... New York Times is my guess.
stevestevens
The death penalty actually cost just as much or more then it dose to imprison them for life. Im against the death penalty not because the individuals die, but because it cost the tax payers more then it would otherwise.
