thefiestygoat
http://www.ontariohockeyleague.com/schedule/show/game/1167 Wedgewood made 57 saves in a 5-4 shoot out win for Plymouth. His team didn't even get a SOG in OT.
Devs3cups
Wedgewood looks like he will be good! If he develops well, could see him in Albany next year, and maybe the replacement of marty in the future...
The Bootleg Saint
Watch at the 43 second mark, Rodwell is a big physical grinder...watch his speed. Thanks for posting that, I spent many nights in that arena as a UMaine student. Go Blue!
Triumph
Defenseman Curtis Gedig is one to keep an eye on, in his freshman year at Ohio State he's got 12 assists in 24 games with a +7. Is he going to be a star? Almost certainly not, but the Devils had made a habit out of completely whiffing on their lower round picks - the last time the Devils picked a player who became even NHL average at round 4 or below was 1996. (NHL players w/ 100 games in the interim - Clemmensen, Voros, Janssen). Getting at least average minor league guys out of these sorts of picks is the way to build an organization. thefiestygoat
Bored while I have a break before my reggae class, here are stat updates for non-NCAA Devil prospects. brickwall30
looking at Wedgewood critically he definatly has some flaws to fix. He plays pretty deep in his net (though I will say he makes himself look real big for his size and how deep he is), and he has a bad habit of not getting both pads flush with the ice when he goes into a bitterfly. The latter I beleive is the bigger issue because his quickness is incredible and I think that can make up for a lot of problems, but keeping that one pad off the ice severly limits mobility to the side of the raised leg because you have to first drop that leg THEN push (though it does have the opposite effect going the other direction) and NHL talent is going to recognize and take advantage of that. I would say his style reminds me more of Bobrovsky from the flyers than Price. Price has textbook perfect butterfly form and average movement. Wedgewood has average form and incredile movement. I think at this point in his career that his positioning can still get to an NHL level and if that happens he could well be scary good because there is nothing better than the battler type in net when they have the skills and speed to go with it. My only question would be whether a goalie who seems to thrive on high shot totals against can stay focused with the traditionally low shot totals on the Devils. As for other prospects Merill has looked great I got to watch a few Michigan games this year including the Cold War Game 2 (michigan vs michigan st @ michigan football stadium) and he has been there best defenseman by a decent margin IMO. He has definite NHL calibre offensive insticts whether he was playing as the rover on the powerplay taking one-timers or just his uncanny ability to get his shot through on net (I think this is his greatest asset). He was real solid in his own end as well, but he could use to work on that part is anything if he really wants to be an impact player in the NHL. If this kid can take his defensive game up a notch or two he could definatly be a 2-3 type defenceman, maybe even an outside chance at being a #1 (It's to early to tell if he can get to that point though despite his very high ceiling) Burlon was also impressive in a smaller role for Michigan and I think he could be a very good 4-6 kind of defenseman for the Devils at some point because he has good offensive insticts but he is very stable in his own end. He rarely got caught running around chasing in his end (in fact I can't remember it happening ever in the games I watched) and he was very good a recognizing good times to jump up into the play. He didn't have the BEST breakout passes, but he was no slouch either and he did a good job of skating it up the ice and into the zone (though im not sure that will translate to the NHL). As well, something that I think is sorely lacking on our current defense, he was VERY good at holding the blueline. iamtheprodigy
I noticed that Burlon's offensive numbers are on pace to be career highs. Seems like he's developing into a pretty well-rounded defenseman. Of course, there's a long way to go for him. I liked what I saw of Jon Merrill in the WJCs. He seems to have good instincts and decent speed.

Triumph
ugh jared's optimism is just not something i can stomach. the devils DO have a bright future, but a lot of these guys will not be part of it.
Chimaira_Devil_#9
Past 8 on the list they are all outside shots (with the exception of the two young goaltenders) to amount to anything apart from spare parts it would seem. Corrente will get pushed out by some of the other guys in the system. Vasyunov has so much potential, and i would love to see him make the NHL, but there doesn't seem to be much space for him, and i think he will go back to Russia, which is a shame. That's the way the site usually works. Fayne has reached his potential a lot quicker than expected but it would be surprising to see him get much better than his current level. He is probably playing above his potential as it is, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him slow down a little bit soon. But I hope not. Somebody like Burlon is young and raw, so he may turn out to be a better defenseman than Fayne or not. It's difficult to tell at this point. But his upside is probably higher.
