I can't see anyone who claims to be a Dev's fan NOT liking Mad-Dog. Everything about him has the hallmark of a winner. Easily the most consistent player on the Dev's every night (Langenbrunner a close second). LOVE MADDEN

Its a bit early too be making these statements. The team is NOT playing well at all, but I take solice in the fact that in 2000 we just about stumbled into the playoffs and we saw what happens when other teams/press underestimate us. This group comes together. In 2001, we had probably the best Devils team ever assembled and lost due to overconfidence. We are best rising to the challenge. In regard to Holik, he was part of a winning system and NOT a $9 million dollar star--and yes, his act was wearing thin (I still blame him for the Carolina series last season with his stupid penalties). Things are not as grim, yea of little faith.

I disagree Sunny, I think his speed and puck handling ability make him a long term threat. My illusion to Joe Thornton was in his rookie year he played alot like Rupp is playing now, adjusting to the big leagues. I think Rupp could turnout to be a great player with the proper coaching and guidance.

Ranger$aren't a threat to anyone. They picked up another great stat forward, but who cares? They will still turn the puck over in heavy traffic, their defense is still a huge weakness and Dunham is average. I am worried more about the Islanders with Dipietro and Niinnaama, they could be a playoff sleeper, especially if they pass Boston.

I agree with Sammy on this one. I would love to see Leafs/Flyers go to seven games with Philly winning. Leafs will be tougher in later rounds, especially now that they have a goalie that can win the big games. We can beat Philly, and they know it.

I think Rupp is playing fine, but maybe a bit overwhelmed with the pace. Burns should rotate him in and out of the line-up, so he can catch his breath and learn more about what is to be expected at this level by playing and observing. I think he is going to be a great Devil forward in the years to come, but he shouldn't be rushed. He reminds me of Joe Thornton in his rookie year. Patience with yield gold.

Selanne was not moved because he would NOT waive his no trade clause. He did not want to come East. Money was not a factor, the Devils would have only been responsible for a month of his salary and made up the rest in playoff revenue. In the off-season we could have dealt some of our excess forwards. But Selanne didn't want to come.

NJay, You make a great point about Gomer & Tivo. That has to be tremendous blow to them both. Its gut check time for them both: they can prove Lou wrong about dealing them, or they can prove Lou was right about acquiring someone else. I only hope that Burns hasn't crushed Gomers game.

Are you crazy, I would make this trade in a heartbeat!!!!! I have to question the validity of this trade though, Buffalo is already overloaded with Goalie propects with Biron, Nooran, and Miller. Why would they ask for another goalie?

I have been saying this for the past two seasons. Whitey is a keeper. He is coming into his own the team is much better with him in the line-up. He is the developing into one of the best all-around blueliners in the game. Whitey is what Mike Van Ryn dreams he could be.

Essentially the Leafs got him for nothing. I hope they don't get their hopes up in TOronto, because come playoff time I wouldn't be surprised to see Nolan on the DL because of his back injuries. Its more damaged than people realize, which is why the Sharks gave him up for nothing.
