Weekes Head
NJay, if you're into music like Jack Johnson, you should really check out Syd. I just picked up his new album, Fault Lines, and it's really good. I bet you'd really enjoy it. Hell, all his albums are good. It's really surprising that he's not more well known than he is, but he seems to really want to stick to his indie-label, I guess. He's big on college tours (in fact, that's ALL he does), I bet he's probably been to your school before. Check him out if you get the chance: http://sydband.com/ MP3s: http://www.freshtracksmusic.com/recordings...omocode=art-Syd

NJayDevil
Whoever wanted good REM Albums...Here's a list: 1. AUTOMATIC FOR THE PEOPLE - Trust me, it rocks. 2. NEW ADVENTURES IN HI-FI - Could be their most underrated album. Released after their huge album, so no one really paid attention to it 3. MONSTER - It's just a great Rock album. 4. Reveal 5. Lifes Rich Pragnant - Fall On Me is a great song.
sheeps
I've rediscovered Dream Theater's "Metropolis Pt 2 - Scenes From a Memory." What an incredible CD - well written, well solo'ed. If anybody wants to see some incredible musicians, watch the DVD. HOLY. FUGGIN'. CRAP. Anybody that plays guitar/bass/keyboard/drums or hell even sings will wet their pants at multiple times while watching it. You don't realize it on the album but at many points the guitarist, bassist, and keyboardist are all soloing the same thing, at absolute light-speed, completely in sync with each other. Something you take for granted on the album and then you see them all doing it together on the DVD, live, without one mistake, and you look down to a puddle in the pants. Don
Monster just threw me for a loop. REM had become rich with "Out of Time" and "Automatic for the People". It was very, very pop. Light rock and/or ballads. Extremely radio friendly. And then Monster? That was all rock. More electric guitar that I ever heard from them. Great, great riffs. Not as radio friendly... some songs got on the rock station like "What's the Frequency Kenneth?", but it wasn't all over the radio like the songs from the aforementioned albums. So it was like, "We have the winning formula to make a kazzilion dollars, so let's do something completely different." Aside from Green, I think Monster is my favorite R.E.M. album. NJayDevil
Monster is sick. WTFK is a mega song, with a mega video. Bang and Blame has one of the coolest bass lines you'll every hear (sure it's no "Roundabout" bass line, its a very chill bass line that really gets the job done), Strange Currencies, Star 69, Circus Envy, Tongue, Crush With Eyeliner, etc etc. It's ROCK. But New Adventures In Hi-Fi is SO underrated. First off it has my favorite REM song on it: The Wake-Up Bomb. They performed that at I believe the 96 VMAs, it was AWESOME. The last time they probably ever were invited to the VMAs. Then this album has "How The West Was On And Where It Got Us". Such a simple song, but most the of time the simpliest songs are the best, and this song fits that mold. It's so cool. At the time, it was a sign of things to come with REM, with the synthesizers and the funky beats going on. Other great songs on this album are Leave, E-Bow The Letter, Bittersweet Me, New Test Leper, Electrolite, Be Mine, and Zither. That's all I can think of off the top of my head. And if you wanna go real old school REM, think no further than Murmur. Laughing, Radio Free Europe, and Pilgrimage are classics. Hell that album was voted Best Album of the Year over Michael Jackson's "Thriller". I heard their new album, Around The Sun, already (they are streaming it on their My Space website...the URL is something like www.myspace.com/rem) and it's going to be another good one. As my brother said "New Adventures In Hi-Fi is the party and Around The Sun is the morning after." It comes out Oct. 5th, check it out. NJD Jester
I'm not sure if I can endorse the ENTIRE album, but The Killers' Hot Fuss has been in my CD player for the last month. And that Mr. Brightside is the best radio single I've heard in a very, very long time. On the other hand, as a huge CAKE fan, their newest is up and down. Some really good stuff (there's a song called Dime as good as anything they've done) but not a whole lot to get yer ass shaken' like Short Skirt, Long Jacket. <JESTER>
Weekes Head
Okay, so this definitely isn't an all-time album, but I haven't been able to stop listening to Atreyu's The Curse lately. SOoooooooo good. Might top my list (or at least rank in the top five) of the best of the year even!

bruins4777
greendale by neil young....omg breathtaking. Its a 10 track story of just...incredible. This is easily one of my top 5 cd's. It has individual breathtaking tracks, but at the sametime its so perfect like a story as one. I recomend this to ANYONE. It even has underlying political commentary to me, but you can interpret it as just a nice sweet story at the same time. Incredible. As for the guys who pointed me towards REM thanks a lot. I listened to auto for the people and i love it. I'm really loving the lyrics. I want more REM. Right now final straw, i wanted to be wrong, losing my religion, walk unafrad, and man on the moon are my favs. I have 2 REM concerts on my comp and i'm really into those. Anyways some other quality cd's are dispatch and radio head. Dispatch is this amazing funk/reggae/rock band. Outstanding i'd recommend them to anyone. The general and here we go are their best. I think their best cd is bang bang. Anything by radio head is quality, but ok computer is my fav at the moment.
Sarge18
Currently the one album that hasnt left my player is Queens of the Stone Age "Songs for the Deaf" Its got Dave Grohl on drums, where he is absolutely amazing. The whole album is a good mix of hard rock and good rock songs.

Don
FYI - We just got iTunes here in Canada today. So I'm buying 10 albums this weekend. I'm using this thread as suggestions. Unfortunately they don't have "The Wall". So far I've bought "Dear Heather" by Leonard Cohen and "The Joshua Tree". Eight to go.
