ringtwins
We all love Langer on Madden's line, but with Gionta's play on that line, when Langer comes back which line could he improve? I remember he played with Elias, well, he pretty much makes any line better. Any thoughts?
devilsrule33
I've never seen Jamie play with Elias. I wouldn't mind seeing that or trying it out.
ringtwins
Didn't he play with Elias last year for like one game? Burn's was trying all sort of line combinations at the time. I thought that Gionta was on Madden's line during that time.
CRASHER
they've played together in special teams situations... and if I remember right Elias has been with him on both shorties he's scored (assisted on the 2nd one with a BEAUTY play too)... so they have played and played WELL together just not as a 5 on 5 unit.... and with Larionov in between them that gives him 2 finishers to make plays too.. could be a viable top line... finally !! The tough thing still is where does Gomez FIT on this team ??

ringtwins
I didn't like Burns' penchant for swapping line-mates at first, but he is very good at sorting out puzzle pieces. I just think that Langer could spark another line since Madden's line seems to be humming along nicely at this point.
insanity_gallops
Could try: Elias-Larionov-Langenbrunner Friesen-Gomez-Berglund Pandolfo-Madden-Gionta 4th line a combination of Stevenson, Rupp, Rasmussen, Marshall, Brylin Hell, why not. Give it a shot, Burnsie!
Triumph
Gomez can't play with Friesen or Gionta, IMO.. Friesen doesn't have enough hockey sense to play with him, Gionta is muscled off the puck too easily.. I'm still not convinced that the GEM line, or possibly Elias-Gomez-Langenbrunner, can't work either. But I've always liked Gionta with Madden and Pandolfo.. it's where Gionta played best as a rookie, and gives that line more of a counterattack (but takes away from their forecheck.. not something I'm too concerned about).. The Devils will have to either use Gomez with Elias, or Gomez with Langenbrunner, or A: get Gomez a good scorer to play with or B: trade Gomez for the big center we need. Jas0nMacIsaac
I wouldn't mind picking up Afinoganov for Gomez, A Rupp package should be enough to get him. I was actually thinking about trading Gomez in a package for Marleau but I highly doubt SJ would budge.
MissionHockey
Afinoganov is interesting if we could get him cheap. But Lou doesn't want to trade with in the east.
Triumph
Afinogenov is a sniper? Since when? 61 goals in 282 games is pretty pedestrian. And why would Buffalo have any interest in Rupp? But never mind any of that. I'm talking about established players, someone along the lines of Peter Bondra. Maybe even Kristian Huselius or Mark Parrish, although neither have proven anything particularly spectacular.
Weekes Head
I'd like to have Parrish, seems like he might do well on this team.
devilsrule33
Gomez for Maxin. No way. I'd loved to have Parrish too but not likely happening.

NJayDevil
Elias-Igor-Langy Brylin-Gomez-Rupp Pando-Madden-Little G Friesen-Rasmussen-Berglund/Stevenson/Marshall Friesen should get demoted, I always though Rupp and Gomez could have chemistry. He could create room and Brylin and Gomez could do something.
Weekes Head
IMO Rupp shouldn't even be playing. Berglund, Stevenson, and Marshall all deserve to play above him.
devilsrule33
I see. Should have made it more clear.
sammyk
I see. Should have made it more clear. Yes, he should have, but when he said "Rupp package", that kinda gave it away. EDIT: Edited December 7, 2003 by sammyk
