DevsRule
I have seen stuff about this posted before but i thought i would be a good idea to post the latest roster news about the 05-06 devs in one thread. I know we have some experts on this stuff so I'll let them start it off
msweet
The only thing that matters is I do not think Niedermayer is a Devil right now.
Devils731
Hopefully the Devils will have enough cap room to sign one of the good FA defensemen.
sleepy steve
All media outlets are reporting that this CBA they just agreed on will make '05 contracts null and void. That means Nieds is a free agent and over a half dozen teams will have over twice the cap room as the devils. That sucks.
smelly
Rafalski gone also, I fear. Edited July 13, 2005 by smelly
msweet
This has been my only fear during the lockout. In Lou we trust. Edited July 13, 2005 by msweet
msweet
Rafalski gone also, I fear. He is still signed for one more year ... abliet at a 24% reduction.
smelly
This has been my only fear during the lockout. In Lou we trust. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Sad, but not a surprise -- was the reason behind Niedermayer's valedictory accepting the Norris. Lou has a plan -- I hope it is a good one.
sundstrom
i don't think there was a question that neids was going to be one of the highest paid players in the league. he deserves to be. i think it's safe to say that he'll get a "max deal" or $7.4MM/year. and i bet he'll get that offer from 5-6 teams. my bet is that he goes to one of the following: Devils Canucks Leafs Flyers Rangers at his age, he's either going home to Vancouver, becoming a national player and headed for TO, or staying in this area. you won't see him sign some mercenary deal with nashville or atlanta. DevsRule
To make it easier here is what the lineup was last year after the deadline (I think) Elias Gomez Gionta Friesen Kozlov Langenbrunner Pandolfo Madden Brylin Hrdina Rasmussen Marshall Nieds Martin White Rafalski Hale Brown (stevens) Gone: Stevenson, Larionov, Albelin Edited July 13, 2005 by DevsRule
Devils731
I was listening to Melrose on ESPN radio and he said Colorado is going to be hurt the most by free agency this summer.
DevsRule
Also any injury updates such as Elias, Gomez and Stevens would be great.
smelly
"i think it's safe to say that he'll get a "max deal" or $7.4MM/year" Remind me - how does that stack up against Lou's final offer last year? I think he wants to leave.
devils744
after he turned down the deal lou made him last season, it would not surprise me to see nieds go. i don't think the devs can pay him the $7 million. anyone know how much cap room the canucks might have?
devils744
they should sign Larionov if he wants to play another year
smelly
Also any injury updates such as Elias, Gomez and Stevens would be great. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Gomez pronounced himself fully healed and ready to go earlier this week.
Devils731
Gomez and Stevens are working out together and both are good to go for training camp.
MantaRay
Good riddance, Lou offered him a fair deal and he cut and ran. I am not so sure there is going to be a bidding war for him. Every other team has to abide by the cap. If anyone is going to have money for him it will be Pittsburgh, Nashville or Minnesota. I don't see any of those team ready for a championship yet. Nieds may have to pull a Holik and foresake the playoffs for the big money.

I hope I/they are wrong and your are not . . .

Rock
This from my June 13th post with info from The Hockey News: Under Contract Brodeur Brylin Clemmenson Langdon Madden Marshall Matvichuk Oliwa Pandolfo Rasmussen RFA's Elias Friesen Gionta Gomez Hrdina Kozlov Langenbrunner White UFA's Niedermayer Rafalski Rheaume Stevens Notable Rookies Ahonen (RFA) Parise *This list is assuming UFA age goes down to 30 this Summer. Some UFA's may have been omitted to make room for prominent rookies who are expected to be in NHL when play resumes. Devils731
Ya, so I guess those lists will have to be re-done with the UFA age staying at 31. Slide a few guys from UFA to RFA.

sleepy steve
My personal belief is that almost no one will ever get a salary 20% of teams payroll. Doing so would handcuff the team to sign any other quality players to put a contender together. My guess is Nieds will get in the 4-5 million range. And i agree with mant, it'll be a small market team that lures niedermayer (minnesota, columbus, calgary or a buffalo).
thefiestygoat
Here is what I got of our team line up for guys ONLY under contract. I did not factor in rookies, or ANY free agents. I lined up by position. Goalies (2) Brodeur Clemmenson Fowards (7) Brylin Madden Marshall Pandolfo Rasmussen Langdon Oliwa Defensemen (3) Matvichuk Hale Martin EDIT: Added Hale and Martin, dunno how I forgot them.
