emptynet
Is it true that he is out for the season? I heard a rumor this weekend but I didnt know if it was true or not, I havent seen anything saying that.
sundstrom
haven't heard that, and frankly would be surprised if it ends up being true.
RowdyFan42
It's not official, but considering how the timetable for his return keeps getting pushed back, it would not surprise me if we don't see Elias this season.
El Diablo
What purpose would it have to speed his return?
SC Devs Fan
If we continue playing like this I wouldn't be surprised to see him sit the year out or return much later in the year should we turn things around.
sundstrom
elias' return is just as important to him for his next contract. if he doesn't play this year, he's going on contingency based contracts going forward.
BlueSkirt
only benchmark I recall is that "he'd need 3 weeks of skating with the team before being ready to return to play". So I keep waiting to hear that he's skating with the team.
SueNJ97
One of the recent articles (was it NEverson's?) said Elias had an abdominal tear and that's why his return keeps getting pushed back. But Doc & Chico said last night that McGillis was skating with Elias in NJ. Hard to skate when you have an abdominal tear. He did have an abdominal strain earlier. Lou has said that when Elias pushed himself too hard in his rehab from hepatitis he gets very tired and has to take time off. That puts his recovery back because he has to sort of start over again from a much lower point and build up again. And I've heard that sort of thing before about coming back from the disease. Meh. If Elias DOES have an abdominal tear, would it be in Lou's interest or NOT in his interest to hide it. It would mean he was less desperate about the salary cap, because Patrik wouldn't be coming back any time soon. But, teams would know he needed scoring even more than before, because Elias wouldn't be coming back any time now. In the immortal words of Don, 'flip a coin'. mkstatto
I have a feeling that we'll see Ellias in the lineup, surprisingly one night, completly out of the blue. No word about him returning, and then bang he starts against Philly or something. Hasn't Lou used this tactic before?
langs15
Talked to one of the guys who work with hte newjersey devils and he said that he has been skating with the team recently, not hard but getting better.
DevsRule
This reminds me of what happened to stevens. First they said he would be back soon, then at the end of the season, then take a season off, then done. Im sure Patty won't retire but the situation is a mess. Elias Sports Bureau
I still say the devils should put Patty on the bench. let him take one shift during the game, so he can take one shift in OT and shoot in the shootout. I bet we woulda had at least one more point last week with this theory.

It's not a bad idea. And it would force the Devils to make the moves, finally. I'm for it. WTF, it's actually a better option than most we have been discussing and it might brighten the mood. But they would need lots of heaters somewhere (in the hall?) to keep Patty's legs warm.
