Another goal is to bulk up the local content itself. That includes younger-skewing events such as high school games and more interactivity via MSG.com, as well as (next season) more programming directly tied to the Islanders and Devils.

Michael Bair, president of MSG Media, said the station wants to "frankly capitalize more than we have on the Islanders and Devils," properties he conceded "we have undernourished on some level for a number of years."

I hope they buy a good advertising computer. Seriously, how could a mega million corp not know how to rotate ads for the Devils games. When we see the same 5 commercials all year when the advertising company has access to 4-5 different episodes per sponsor.

The article points out that this is intended to make FSNY an equal to MSG instead of the second banana that it has been. I would imagine that in addition to pumping up the Devs and Isles as they say they're going to, this also makes it easier to shift the Knicks or Rangers over to a main channel if the need arises and the opportunity presents itself.

Actually, this lowers the number of alternate feeds and brandings for such that they have to come up with. Right now the alternate feed is named based on who's playing (MSG2 for the Knicks and Rangers, FSNY2 for the Devils and Isles). My guess is that the first alternate feed will always be named MSG2 regardless of who's on. If there's ever a need for a second alternate feed on a specific night, it could be named MSG Plus 2, MSG 2 Plus, or even MSG3.
