2014 Miami Dolphins thread

I don't watch Tannehill all of the time, but you are definitely over-the-top with the Tanne-hate Daniel.

Look at his numbers...he has clearly improved every year.  His stats are definitely in solid territory now (don't underestimate that...as many teams' fans will tell you, they would kill for a guy who could give you that).  He doesn't throw for tons of yards, but piling up numbers in the glamour categories isn't the be-all end-all some make it out to be.

That being said, the crossroads for Tannehill is definitely coming soon.  Despite his progression (check out his completion % this season, especially over the last seven weeks or so), he can't level off here.  He still has some climbing to do.  Sure, he's never going to be Brady, Manning, or Rodgers, but it's not like those guys are the only QBs winning Super Bowls.  Look at Average Joe Flacco...he's often nothing special, but he has a way of raising his game (though somewhat inconsistently), and as we saw in the playoffs with him and some others, sometimes pretty good QBs go on hot streaks or have a way of being timely.  You can kill Tannehill for not playing well in the last two games of the 2013 season if you want to, but not everyone steps up right away in those spots.  Some guys (and teams) need to take some lumps and learn from them.

Anyway, Tannehill is only 26 years old and has clearly gotten better.  Next year is going to be a very big year for him, in terms of knowing if he's ever going to be better than he is right now.  MD2020 is right...it's not like the Dolphins are this championship-ready team that is just about ready to take off, if only their QB wasn't holding them back.  They have other weaknesses that need addressing.  They're a work-in-progress, on multiple fronts.

Continuity is what this franchise needs. Everyone deserves to come back next season in my eyes.

fvck that. No way. Playoffs or get the fvck off my lawn. Philbin and Coyle, fvck off. Bill Lazor can stay. I want him to continue to work with Tannehill. I'd actually almost be for bringing Rex in as the head coach and letting him fix this sh!trag, choke-o-matic, fraud of a defense, and letting Lazor run the offense without interference from Mr. Mackey. I'm tired of this fvcking defense puking all over itself every time the money is on the line. Rex can help instill a fvcking attitude in these jerk-offs so maybe they actually nut up and WIN some of those games like Green Bay or Detroit. Also, Rex's defense isn't giving up 700 fvcking yards on the ground over three weeks. Gutless. This defense needs to have its v*gina removed and replaced with a set of brass ones when it counts the most. Enough is enough. Who knows, Rex and Lazor might be crazy enough to work... It'll probably never happen though... I doubt Rex gets a head coaching job next year. Ross will too busy getting turned down by Harbaugh again. That is if he's even smart enough to fire Philbin in the first place... This is Ross we're talking about after all. When it comes to football, the man is an utter fvcking dipsh!t. Sigh.... 41 years and counting.... Edited by MadDog2020

First Tanny pick was bad.  Second one was a bit unlucky.

Weird game, in that it was such a reversal from Week 1.

Odd thing is I actually think, on some level, that Miami scoring that TD to pull within one to end the first half seemed to piss off the Patriots and got them going...seemed to give them something to rally around.  Miami had kind of picked up where they left off in Miami, in that they were moving the ball and racking up yards...of course, the blocked FG try (always kind of a fluke thing) and the 15-yard penalty (I forget exactly when it was) really hurt them in that first half...they just didn't score enough points.

No CR, EVERYTHING bad that happens to the Dolphins is Tannehill's fault. Didn't you get that memo? The Dolphins lost because Tannehill obviously couldn't tackle, scheme or coach right. He can't play LB or CB. fvcking bum. Worst QB in football. Btw, did you hear about the hostage situation in Sydney? Obviously Tannehill's fault as well. How could Tannehill not be there to prevent that? He should be arrested and charged with something!

Well, that's about what I expected. Lemme guess Daniel, all Tannehill's fault, right? [emoji19]

Let me guess, has nothing to do with him right?

Fatcessa was right, he's maybe an average NFL QB.  Those guys don't get you into the playoffs unless your team does something else really, really well.

Right, exactly. Because I actually watch and pay attention to the game, and don't look to blame one guy for the shortcomings of the entire 53-man roster and coaching staff. If you think that Ryan Tannehill is the biggest problem with this team, you need a football 101 course.

We're kind of going back and forth in two different threads, but his issue is that he's very average.  Just as you can't blame most losses by the Bills on Kyle Orton, you can't really credit him with much when the team wins.   Hallejuah, we've got the second coming of Kyle Orton at QB.

He's in year THREE. He can still IMPROVE. That's what you seem to ignore. He's gotten better each year. Not every QB is Andrew Luck. It takes time for most guys to reach their ceiling. Tannehill hasn't reached his yet. Edited by MadDog2020

I mean, there's no one really to bring in to compete with him. So he's our guy I suppose.

There's no 'I suppose'- he's the guy. Now, would it be a wise move to draft a QB this year in one of the middle rounds?Absolutely. Draft a QB every year- it's something every team should do. You just never know (Brady bring exhibit A).

I really think Winston will be a great NFL QB, but it would sicken me having to root for him.

Winston would be the consensus #1 overall if it wasn't for him being one of the 4 or 5 stupidest people on the planet. Whichever team drafts him will need to assign a security team to monitor that moron 24/7. Edited by MadDog2020

That strategy panned out really, really well for Dez Bryant -- who was a real headcase -- so who knows.

With Winston though I don't think you'll need to go overboard to keep him out of trouble.  From I've read, he's a pretty smart guy and a good student.  General intelligence is pretty well correlated with things like impulse control and future time orientation, which would tend to lead someone with a lot of talent to realize that if I stay out of trouble there's a good chance that I will be a very, very wealthy person in about five years.  So he would be well served to get above a 30 on his Wonderlic, which I could see teams looking at more closely than usual.

Like I said, my issue is that it would take some time for me to root for him, even if he turns out to be really good.

Let's play "guess that excuse for Tannehill" this week.

I'm starting to think he just doesn't care about winning. He's already a relatively rich man, and will be good enough to get an extension of some sort, if anything by default.

I don't think the Dolphins will make the playoffs for at least 5 more years.

Edit: and I'm not the type to erase these posts when I perhaps jump the gun

Nothing is dumber in sports than an Owner telling the team a coach is coming back after a meaningless late season win. And it happens so often. It's emotional, the team is cheering..it's pointless.

The Dolphins winning that week 16 game really shouldn't be a difference in Philbin staying or not (btw, I am not making a case for or against him), just the stupid process of how it happened.

Did Ross need to see a blocked punt for him to keep him?

The only thing that will look dumber is when Ross starts courting Harbaugh again, getting rejected and lookin like an ass.

I hate Ross. Tannehill was great today. That's about all I got at the moment.

Meh, not gonna happen. It seems he's ride or die with Philbin next year. Depressing. Edited by MadDog2020

Yes, you jumped the gun. 396 yards and 4 TD's. The QB continues to improve, and is not the problem, as I've tried to impart to you in about 18 different languages at this point. The biggest problem with this franchise sits in the owner's box, and there's no way to get rid of him, unfortunately. Edited by MadDog2020

Sorry guys :P

Adam Schefter@AdamSchefter 2m2 minutes ago

Dolphins owner Stephen Ross says HC Joe Philbin will return next season.

..of all the pain that we've had to deal with regarding the Jets this year.. at the very least, we have some good news to look forward to next season.

I fully believe with the team the fish have, they'd be poised to take the next step with the right HC next season. But with JP, I honestly don't see them taking that next step.
