We are competing, but the real truth is that we had to face only one team with elite talent in last year's playoffs, and that was an Ottawa club that gifted to us 3 of the first 4 games with their inconsistent play. We won that series by one goal.

We've gotten worse by losing Nieuwendyk, and they haven't lost anything. Although if they lost Rachunek, they'd do a lot better against us. But I digress.

I feel that the way this team won in the playoffs was by making other teams panic. How many 2 on 1s did Madden and Pandolfo/Gionta/Langenbrunner get in last year's playoffs? We made them panic because they thought they might not score a goal.

But this year, they can wait us out. If they can play solid defense, we'll end up giving up the chances. And their offensive players are more talented, so they will have better opportunities. I feel that if the Devils got shut out in a playoff game with the team as is, they're basically finished in that series. Guys will begin pressing for goals, and it won't happen, the goalie will get in their heads, and we'll wonder why the hell Lou never got us a second scoring line.

I think lou will get something that costs the least.

Kozlov will cost him Gomer, but he might be good with freeze/elias

Dowd- wouldn't be shocked to see him here a Bricktown native he's much better than he was when he was here the 1st time

Zhamnov- would be a great addition -immediate help & wouldn't cost much

Francis- not the man he used to be but is better than Igor

Lang- will cost us too much but could you imagine him w/ patrik

George Laraque- could come here if he changes his priorities

Yanik perrault? cost nothing- lou type of guy

Mirozov- atleast he wouldn't score on marty any more (cept practice)

A pick, probably.

Zholtok has never been great offensively (except for that year he led the Canadiens in goal scoring). He's okay. He did have an excellent playoff last year for the Wild, picking up a lot of PP assists.

I've never liked Zholtok. He might be a good fit though. We don't necessarily need a huge scoring threat on the 2nd line, just someone who can make Friesen and Langenbrunner into better scoring threats. Zholtok could do that.

Rucchin signed a long term deal in Anaheim, and while Anaheim is out of the playoffs, they should very well be back there next season. I don't think they're going to give up over there. He's the ideal center, but he's the captain of that team.

As for Handzus, I don't see the Flyers helping us out. Lou's traded with Milbury before, but I can't remember him trading within the division other than those minor moves. Oh, okay, the Stephane Richer deal in 2002. But I digress..

Hasnt anyone thought of Michal Handzus, he;s big, he can score, and was a runner up to the selke in 2000. Giving Philly a draft pick and maybe berglund or bicek could get him for us.

Handzus was a 20 goal scorer last year and was +13.

He may get 20 goals this year, but he will certainly be higher than +13.

And he's just 26 and is right in his prime.

And you want to pick him up for a draft pick and Bicek, whose best year is 5 goals in 45 games. Yeah. Okay.

I'm still for that Larionov, Brown & pick for Sakic, Tanguay and Foote deal. Don't know why that never went down.

Aleksey Morozov is available from Pittsburgh, he hasnt reached his full potential, but is an offensive force, with smooth skating, speed, good stickhandling, and a solid wrist shot. He will cost a good prospect and a pick though, but would cost less, player wise in return for him, and salary wise for next year.

What the heck? My picks didnt even make the list.

Craig Conroy - Good skills, defensively aware, a BIG CENTER, can skate and possibly score. Put up some decent numbers.

Daymond Langkow - Not huge, but has decent size. Can skate, has skills, defensively aware as well. Can score, and generate chances. Bangs a good bit too.

Of course, I have no idea what the asking prices are going to be for these guys. But I think these two are more Lamoriello type players. I have no idea what their faceoff percentages are like, hopefully good...

actually, forget about prying Langkow out of Phoenix, the guy is currently 14-23-37, probably playing with Doan and Nagy. I doubt Phoenix will trade the only thing they have going for them up front. Darn it. It'll likely cost Gionta, Berglund and a pick, maybe more.

I agree. Those are decent numbers and it would prolly cost a considerable sum to pry him from Phoenix. However, Langkow seems like the type of player that Lou would be looking to go after come deadline time.

Conroy and Langkow's teams are in the playoff race. Those guys aren't going anywhere unless Phoenix continues to fall out of the race, or there's a huge collapse by Calgary.

Lou HAS gotten a player we've talked about. And this year he's not going to deal a serious roster player away, so it makes it even easier to predict who he might be looking it.
