msweet
http://www.thestar.com/Sports/article/233205 Jul 06, 2007 01:08 PM Damien Cox Hockey Columnist Scott Clemmensen may not have been able to help the Maple Leafs into the playoffs last season, but he'll get a chance to help them more directly now. According to Star sources, the former New Jersey Devils goaltender has signed a two-way contract with the Leafs and is expected to be the club's No. 3 goaltender this season, working with the AHL Toronto Marlies alongside youngster Justin Pogge. Clemmenson, 29, has backed up Vezina Trophy winning goalie Martin Brodeur for parts of five seasons, playing only six games last season and 13 the year before. On the final day oflast season, with the Leafs needing New Jersey to beat the New York Islanders to get into the playoffs, the Devils gave Clemmensen the start and he played well enough to push the game to a shootout, which was won by the Islanders. The Boston College grad, a native of Des Moines, Iowa, will replace Jean-Sebastien Aubin and J.F. Racine on the Leaf goaltending depth chart. Clemmensen was made expendable in New Jersey when the Devils signed the more experienced Kevin Weekes as an unrestricted free agent this week. eaglejelly
He should be an upgrade to Raycroft Bye Clemmy, I never though he was as bad as his reputation and never had chance to prove himself. He got to play one game after sitting on the bench
msweet
They probably play him against us and he'll shut us out.
Devils731
They probably play him against us and he'll shut us out. We could say that about any AHL or backup talent goalie though.

njdevil26
He might play LESS now he is backing up Raycroft AND Toskala
Weekes Head
He might play LESS now he is backing up Raycroft AND Toskala Well that's probably the point. He signed a two-way deal. My take is that he will likely stay in the NHL and help develop the goaltending prospects. He'll probably be called up if there's an injury. Oh, and the Leafs are desperately trying to unload Raycroft. Who knows, if Clem has a good camp maybe he'll back Toskala up.
UnderDogX
Well at least his article about not feeling like he's playing in the NHL will be true when he's starting for Toronto's minor league team Seriously though, best of luck to him...half of me hopes he shows he's a good goalie, the other half hopes not simply because it means we did the right thing

Max
and btw good for Scott. I hope he does better with the Marlies than he did with the Rats/Lowell Devils. I am sure he would have done better in the AHL if he had a real team in front of him.
threestars
Well good luck to ya on the much hated Leafs.
thefiestygoat
I wish him nothing but the best. It would be nice if he could be a back up for Toskola at the NHL level rather than start at the AHL level but that will depend on if they move Raycroft. Good luck Scott! puckrock
This is definitely bittersweet for me. Although I knew for a while that Clemmensen really had no career in New Jersey, I was secretly hoping he'd stick around. But I think this is obviously in his best interest. If the Leafs do indeed move Raycroft, Clemmy is guarenteed some good playing time in a real hockey hotbed. Who knows, Clemmer could have a super-camp and end up the starter! Best of luck to you for the rest of your career, Scott! We'll miss you!
