smelly
Yes, the Devs have played solidly defensively for most of the season under Burns. But he is the head coach, and he needs to start taking some of the heat for the absolute travesty that id the Devs' PP. It is absolutely inexcusable that the team has shown next to no improvement all season. Yes, this team is the most poorly put together Devils team in the past 10 years, and there is only one player (Elias) who has true first line talent (that is Lou's fault, but I'll deal with that in another post). But Burns is the captain of this ship, and he has been an utter failure in this regard.
HarbingerOfSorrow
But what can be done to rectify the situation prior to the playoffs? A power play specialist at the trade deadline would have been nice.
sundstrom
agreed. i'll give him credit in that i honestly thought this was a 92-95 point team that would get a 5th or 6th seed and the team has exceeded most expectations. but the pp is his fault so he's gotta take the heat on that one. agree that this devils team is poorly built as well. NJayDevil
After this long it is the coaching staffs fault. Time for them to get on top of things before things fall apart.
Risky
It's like they haven't even addressed it. It's really really awful. Now it's COSTING us goals, not just missing chances.
StarDew
First it was the players and their attitudes and/or egos...then it was Lou not getting whatever now it is the coach...who's left??? The stick boy???
DevilMinder
The team is playing well yet the power play is failing. Even in the good times the power play was sad. Now they are dead last in the league but somehow tied for first in the Atlantic. How else can it be explained Dew?

Triumph
Where were you PP people the last two games, when the Devils power play was effective and confident? I didn't see tonight's game, but I've seen enough of the Devils' bad power play to know what probably happened. Against the Rangers, and Bruins, the Devils were IN MOTION. I can't stress this enough, the three forwards and possibly 1 defenseman have to be moving, getting the defense to adjust. The Devils do not have "power play players". As is, I'd expect them to be around 20th in the league on the PP. Elias and Gomez's lack of a right wing has hampered this.
Devils731
The Devils PP was hit or miss tonight. It generated a few chances, and had some sustained pressure, and also some really crappy moments too. Very hit or miss, but it wasn't all bad. -Scott
Nieuwy25
I remember reading or hearing that Mike Keenan didn't believe in practicing for the PP - just throw your best offensive guys out there and let them go. Burns seems to have a similar attitude about the PP - but he just rolls lines out on it. I still think it would be better to have special teams for it. Devils101
I read in one of the articles today that Burns was thinking of putting a forward at the point.

Brain cramps.....BIG Brain Cramps...it is all mental imo...I have seen stuff like this over the decades on various teams...it is a human fraility...if the mind is convinced it cannot dew something it won't...kinda like losing the will to live after the loss of a loved one...I know you have heard the saying "died of a broken heart"...well the concept is the same for the PP...when the brain overworks or is not thinking in a postive and focused manner it cramps...the body is then saying to the brain WTF dew ya want and until you tell me I am not dewing anything. When one thinks positive then postive things result...how dew ya think I got to be a month ahead of anyone's expectations in my rehab? Next surgery is 2 months ahead of schedule...90% mental 10% physical...adapt or die As for putting a forward on the point 101, dew you mean using 4 forwards or 3 forwards and 1 D? HarbingerOfSorrow
Presumably he meant 4 forwards and 1 D on the power play. A risky method to be sure. But who knows? It may be worth the gamble.
