All it took to end the New Jersey Devils' winning streak was a night off for Martin Brodeur.

But Brodeur will likely be back in net and looking to add to his NHL-record win total Friday night, when the Devils host the struggling Minnesota Wild and former coach Jacques Lemaire for the first time in more than three years.

With their four-time Vezina Trophy winner in net for nine straight games after his return from elbow surgery, the Devils went 8-1-0 and won their last four -- culminating in a 3-2 victory over Chicago on Tuesday night as Brodeur set the all-time record with his 552nd win.

The loss stalled the Devils' pursuit of Boston for the top spot in the Eastern Conference, but New Jersey (46-21-3) enters Friday having not lost back-to-back games since falling to Carolina and Atlanta on Jan. 6 and 8. It is 23-7-0 since.

The team also should have Brodeur back in the crease. He has allowed two or fewer goals in eight of the nine games since his return, posting a 1.95 goals-against average and a .931 save percentage.

The Devils offense also has been clicking as the team prepares for a run at a fourth Stanley Cup. Wednesday's game ended the club's nine-game streak of scoring at least three goals, and New Jersey is averaging 39.8 shots on goal over the past month.

Lemaire's Wild (33-29-8) rank last in the league in shots on goal with 27.5 per game, and the light-scoring team is again relying on defense and goalie Niklas Backstrom as it tries to reach the playoffs for the third straight season.

Lately, that formula hasn't been reliable for Minnesota, which has allowed four or more goals five times in its last 12 games, going 3-5-4 to fall out of playoff position in a crowded West. The Wild are 2-5-2 on the road over that span, going 0-1-2 on their most recent trip.

Minnesota is at New Jersey where Minnesota has been up and down team for the most part of the season as they did pick up a big SO win in their last game over Colorado on Tuesday night. Minnesota will come out in this game hungry and ready to play as they are trying to make the top 8 in the WC playoff race and right now they sit in 10th seed out of the playoffs, but still in the mix and not many points out. New Jersey lost their last game on Wednesday night to Carolina in a letdown game where Brodeur did not play as he became the All-Time winningest goaltender in the NHL with a win #552 over Chicago on Tuesday night. New Jersey looked flat on Wednesday night although they did have 43 SOG in the game. New Jersey will have Brodeur back in for tonight's game looking for win #553 and they look to win their 11th straight home game in a row, which continues a franchise record. New Jersey has to be ready for this one as Minnesota will be playing desperate hockey in this one. this should be a good game with Backstrom vs. Brodeur. Minnesota has never won in New Jersey, going 0-2-1 with a tie in four visits -- most recently a 3-2 shootout loss on Dec. 3, 2005.

Get the win Devils and get er done! :koolaid:

:evil:LETS GO DEVILS!!!!

Brodeur's 10th game back (9-1) and looking to add to his record wins with #553.

Okay so hopefully no hangover still.. tough stretch of games coming up now, lets get 2 pts

Brent gave them a well-deserved day off. Even if they don't win tonight, at the very least they should be emotionally and physically recharged.

LET'S GO DEVILS!

We gotta have this one with Boston and Philly coming up. A hiccup was expected and acceptable in Carolina. Not so much tonight.

Sadly I live in Utah, so I can't go to the game :saddevil: But I will be paying very close attention to the game via any damn update I can find.

As far as the game goes though, we'll slaughter 'em! :burn: And with Marty back between the pipes they have NO chance. Those points are ours. :gd:
