MantaRay
Zero impact? Having twelve of our last fifteen games sell out had nothing to do with Kovalchuk, right...cause all of them were against the Rangers. No he didn't. Its called heavy ticket discounting, College nights, Guys night out, and family event stunts during a bad economy.
run_to_the_ditch
I honestly think the Devils will be able to sing him but I dont know that its going to be a deal that long. I can see him taking a 3 year 24 million dollar deal. That gives him just enough time to hang around while Brodeur (who lets be honest the way he is playing will probably take one more year after this contract expires) is still around. Kovalchuk knows that with Brodeur you always have a chance. I know the team is still in need of D and honestly for what Martin will think he's worth I believe the Devils can let him go and fill in his money with good d-men. This team can go far with a "solid" D. They dont need to be studs. The only reason the Devils are done is because of a pathetic power play. If you dont think so just ask the Caps why they are going to be playing a game 7 tomorrow night.

It's not up to Kovy, its really up to his agents. Any team that signs him will have to make at LEAST a five year commitment. The Caps are playing game 7 because of HALAK. devlman
There was maybe a novelty about Kovy that drew out of curiosity for a game or so. Overall, Kovy isn't a draw and had zero impact on attendance. Incorrect. Thats all i have to say.

I still dont understand how everyone thinks Kovalchuks agents make all his decisions for him. Does anyone else remember him turning down a 12 year 101+ million dollar contract??? Or the 7 year 70 million dollar contract??? True Halak gave a Brodeur/Roy performance last night but its just another team that saw its power play fail them horrible. Just like the Canucks got a scare from L.A. If L.A.'s power play doesnt click like it did, the Canucks sweep that series.

MadDog2020
No, just don't like the way he didn't fit on this TEAM and made our players essentially bystanders. Lmao, and the pope is Jewish. You hate the guy bro. I mean, you won't even give him credit for being an attendance draw, which he most clearly is.
newarkdev01
Listen, none of us know what is going on Kovy's head. We do know he turned down a long term contract down in Atlanta because he wanted to see what he could get. There is a good chance he could take a short term contract with rennewal options that really kick up his contract if he thinks that the cap will go up and he can get more. In any advent, no one on this board can say for sure what will happen.

Jerrydevil
"Clearly" an attendance draw? I don't know about that. But the original poster's question is an interesting one? How good is Kovalchuk for business? That stinkin' cap is a factor though.

Don't forget though, last year had two unique sellouts with random mid-week games against Chicago (which we couldn't give away tickets for beforehand) and Minnesota both drawing thousands more than they would have because of 552, we were lucky to average that much down the stretch last year. Is that really such a huge jump in attendance to be the sole factor in deciding to sign Kovy? i did very similar math and concluded the same thing: comparing 08-09 to 09-10 isn't exactly apples to apples because of different matchups/days of week, but it can't be that far off. the last 14 games with Kovy (minus the Philly game) we averaged 16,959. prior to his arrival in the season we averaged 15,220. the last 14 games in 08-09 averaged 16,516 with the previous 27 averaging 15,501. i'm sure Kovy had something to do with increased sellouts this year, but the "end of the season push" can't be neglected. overtime98
all of you will be in shock when Kovy is not on the Devils next year. Just look at the history lou has with free agents..... enough said. I mean he didnt sign Madden and Madden only got 1 year at 2.75. Where is madden now? To be fair, let's not forget the $17 ticket promo for St. Patty's Day, tickets with a jersey purchase for the Bruins game, plus the Guys Night Out and Family Four Pack Promos they still ran this year.
