he is attempting a comeback this season. can we/should we get him? i know it's hard for us to land big time stars, so this might be a moot point. but, if we want to glamorize the team a little (i.e. fill up the rock) getting a forsberg-caliber guy could be big. i know lou isn't a glamour-type guy, but it would be nice to watch games in sold out home stadiums and get a little more attention, plus pull in some more cash for the organization.

I say no...that foot injury is unstable. I can't see spending that much money (and he will want a lot of money) on someone who may not be a sure thing. If we had a WayBack machine and could get Avalanche Forsberg, that is a different argument altogether. I would rather see them spend that money on some younger guys who can build the team.

Wait a minute, I know it's late and this might all be a bad dream, but I'm seeing here a preponderance of Devils fans who are actually AGREEING THAT IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA TO ACQUIRE PETER FORSBERG. You're all kidding, right? I agree that we could use a center, but not like this.

I just checked into a few projections, and they all seem to be showing that getting Forsberg on our hockey team would do this to our current budget:

23500143.jpg

That's some f**ked up s*** to be coming out of Microsoft Excel.

He made $5.75mil last year and we've only got $3.38mil of cap space available to work with. http://nhlnumbers.com/overview.php?team=NJD My guess is any new contract he signs would be for less than 5.75 due to his liability issues, but still... to get him, we'd have to make a deal or two, and I just don't think it'd be worth it for a couple reasons.

#1: His high risk of re-injury. Ankle problems are pesky things, and say he's playing great and has the team flying high, right? All is well. Love and joy are abound. Foppa is God. Right. OK, then with like two games to go before the playoffs, he twists his foot the wrong way and the whole offensive machine falls apart. I see him being an Achilles heel, if you will.

#2: I just don't like him. You know when you just look at someone and you can't quite explain why but you get a gut feeling that that person is pig vomit? That's how I feel about Peter Forskin. Right, he was a talented player, but once he put that rotten orange jersey on I didn't care anymore. He picked up winged P disease there, and I'd prefer if he didn't infect our team with it.

Anyway, don't know why the Philly papers are under the impression that he'll be returning there because they've only got .17 mil to work with... who would they move?

Is there anyone on this board who actually thinks Lou would sign him at this point? :noclue:

I don't think Lou's actually gonna run at it, simple:

Forsberg is the NHL past, Lou is trying to build for the NHL future.

If he would come for a bag of pucks sure...not having to give away future prospects...great.

Problem is he' sgoing to want about $4mil in "pucks" to go anywhere.... :noclue:

How can any hockey loving player in their right mind NOT want to play for NJ?

Those who don't yearn to play for NJ love themselves above and beyond Hockey - or have extreme loyalty to a major rival of the Devils.

NJ works - they're thrice proven with a mixed bag of talent -- but a consistent and effect ineffable System. If you don't love Hockey, don't truly understand Hockey, you will not understand the System. The System IS Hockey. Some guys leave Jersey for their egos. Some leave because personal failure under the System is just too painful to bear.

Bottom line: if you ever have a problem with the NJ Devils and their "System" you, in cold brutal reality, have trouble with Hockey. You have issues with the game itself not some team philosophy.

I repeat, if you do not understand the ineffable System, you do not understand Hockey.

As militant Keeper of the Ineffable System, I mean no offense, but am bound to say - liking a more open offensive game means you like Score-o and shootouts... not Hockey. If you disagree you do not know Hockey - that's not a bad thing -- I'm sure Hockey would say yes if you asked it out for date - as long as your intentions are pure of course

EDIT: Quick illustration of my point:

Scott Gomez cannot commit to play within the confines of the System - he does not understand hockey.

Scott Niedermayer does not feel completely happy playing under the System - but found had to put it into play if he was going to play quality hockey. After this cathartic California Cup win, he had to take a step back and decide if he indeed DID love hockey. I think he's decided he can only handle it in small doses. :uni:

Check out the edit above by way of illustrating my point.

Players who have conflicted feelings about the Devils have conflicted feelings about hockey.

Another perfect case study is Jason Arnott. He hated hockey - came to the Devils - clicked into the system and came to terms and went on to have a successful content career in hockey.

Guys who cannot abide the System may not understand hockey -- OR they may not have come to terms with their conflicted feelings about hockey. It's only natural. it takes a special person to wholely buy into anything - love, religion - there are always shades of gray. even within the System. It's ineffable afterall.

Uh oh -- I feel myself quickly shifting from Robin Williams of the board to Tom Cruise nailbiting.gif:unsure:
