Can we get some line speculation going here please?

no way would i ever trade away henrique..or zajac even for that matter. It wouldnt make sense, we need to get young and to acquire top 6 forwards, dumping henrique for what? maybe someone equivalent to him just wouldnt make any sense he is still developing and is currently on pace developing nicely cant ask for much more(not saying you were saying to trade him)..just giving my view on that since i have read it before..would make NO sense. I wouldnt be opposed to possibly trade away next years draft pic depending on what it was going to get us in return, but it would be nice if we could figure out a way to dump ryder or brunner in a package for something.. would also help clear out some of the forwards we have right now.

That's the thing.  Our prospects are not that great and we are not exactly loaded on our NHL roster.  We have nothing to give up except someone like a Henrique.  We won't be getting anyone good by trading away our crap.

I don't think we would get anything decent for Gelinas unless he was packaged for a full time NHL player like Henrique or next year's first round pick.

A bottom 6 or utility D-man is probably the best we could hope for.

Yeah, that's not true, but I suppose it is a slow day.

Krug, DeKeyser, J. Schultz, and Barrie are all unsigned too.  So it's just a Mexican standoff until one guy signs then they probably all will.

What part is not true?

you said that you dont think we would be able to get anything decent for gelinas.. or he thinks we could get better than a "bottom 6 or utiliity Dman" .. i would hate to see him traded for another d man that would blow if that were to happen. I guess we will see what happens if anything, not expecting much though.

I really don't think we would get anything good for him.  Are teams really going to go nuts over a rookie who is terrible in his own end, appears to be strictly a PP specialist and has only 1/2 - 2/3 of a season under his belt?

if he cleaned up a bit more in his own end i think he would appear to be much more attractive, but i guess you never know.. do i think we would get much for him alone? no not really but depends what youre going to package with him and what youre going after i guess.

The part where Gelinas returns a bottom 6 forward or depth D.  But you knew that already.  The Devils aren't trading him unless it was in a deal for a very good player.

We got our 4th line for the past 3 years from waivers and AHL call-ups.  I don't think it's completely out of this world that we could get a bottom 6 guy or 6th or 7th D-man for him (however I will admit it is unlikely).

DeBoer on Gelinas:  "He has the potential to be really good," DeBoer said of the 22-year-old. "I recently watched the baseball draft and they talked about five-tool guys. Gelinas is a guy with all the tools."

I understand that DeBoer is not the guy in charge of trades, but this is not a guy they are going to throw away.  He has skills that most defensemen dream about.

He's not helping the team either. I don't think he's a very good penalty killer and soon enough he'll be bad there too. Getting old sucks.

I won't argue that he's getting younger, but he had the most toi of any forward on the pk last year and we lead the league in pk effectiveness. To say he's not a very good penalty killer is not doing him justice... He's a key part of the pk for us and after Zajac, Henrique and Elias we have very little else in terms of appealing options at forward on the pk.

I'm not saying this justifies his contract, but if the argument is between keeping him or Brunner/Ryder, I'd rather zubrus.

Opposing power plays had 50 shots/60 minutes while Zubrus was on the ice.  When he was off the ice that's considerably lower.  Now he may have faced more top units and so on but I'm hesitant to think he's any better than league average at penalty killing.

Brunner and Ryder are still better bets than Zubrus because Zubrus turns 37 this year.  He's just not a very effective player anymore.

Zubrus is breaking down and shouldn't get top 6 time like last season. We have enough depth so he will do just fine in a third or fourth checking line role. Pando 2.0.

Agree!... It could be my eyes tricking me but it seems like his skating has gotten better and faster the past two years. He'll play an ideal 3rd line role, with Ruutu maybe?

to be honest i feel like rutuu is kind of a fresher zubrus type that was brought in, i would like to see rutuu on the 3rd line and i think zubrus would be great to have on the fourth line.

It's going to be tricky.  It really depends on who is healthy, because healthy the Devils have too many guys for a PP right now.  There's not much sense in having a player like Michael Ryder unless you are using him on the power play.  So assuming he's here, he's got to be used on the PP somewhere.  Then you've got the 4 Czech guys - do you put them all on the same PP?  Probably not, but then again, why not?  And what happens with Clowe?  So yeah, someone's got to move first, I think, before I even start to think about this.

Yup, you put Ryder on the power play with someone who's gonna attract considerable amount of attention away from Ryder's skating space: Jagry, obviously, maybe Cammalleri. Give Ryder the time and space, and his wrist shot is as deadly as anyone's in the league; all he's good for really.

Yeah, the PP should be very interesting. This is forwards only

WILL play on the PP, no doubts:

Jagr, Elias, Cammalleri

Most likely:

Zajac, Henrique

Maybes:

Ryder, Brunner, Havlat, Clowe

Edit: When you consider that every defenseman (sans Salvador) is capable of playing PP, I doubt they will put a forward on the point
