I don't often suggest that guys sign somewhere just for the money, but I think that is exactly what Blake should do. He's coming off two consecutive Stanley Cups and arguably his value has never been higher. He should not be worried about going to Dallas, he should be doing it the old fashioned way, whoever is giving the most dollars and the most term. It's easy to forget, but Blake is almost 30. He should max out this deal, because I am not sure what a 36 year old Blake Coleman is going to play like or whether there will be another big deal. The time is now for him, I think.

Johnsson's career production basically came from one freakish streak...a 38-game stretch in 2018-19, where he somehow potted 18 goals and added 15 assists (shot 25% for this run). The rest of his career has seen him put up 17 G and 28 A in 137 GP. And Toronto thought so much of that 2018-19 big run that they traded him for a total "if" kind of player just two seasons after. That run of course buoys his 2018-19 season numbers (20 goals), so he'll live off that for a while, in terms of teams thinking there's a gold mine waiting to be discovered. But it looks like that burst of offense was the real fluke. I agree that he should be more productive than last year, but by how much? Maybe 0.4 points per game, instead of the roughly 0.2 he managed last season? I just wouldn't bet on him becoming much of an offensive force.

From what I saw, Clarke is far far smarter than any player on this draft, but I didn’t watch many. I didn’t watch Edvinsson in junior league. He played simple game in Allsvenskan and SHL, he did a lot of mistakes in passing under pressure, and he didn’t try to conduct offense. But I see pretty good line driving from him and I think he did show enough to compare him with Hughes. And I did watch some of his u-18 games where he looks much better and more competent than other players. I have no confidence that he will be able to become a real playmaker, give pass to a partner, quickly adjust, take the puck and give a pass to the free zone for the shot. He will rather drag the puck, protecting it with his body, and give the short pass. He's a good puckhandler, but I didn't see any cross-assists from him. He can disperse offense, skates inside the zone, and most importantly-pick up the puck at the board, keep the puck on the blue line. His game really reminds me of Seider's game, and Seider didn't score much more points playing in Germany. Sanderson was scolded for his contribution to the offens, but this year he proved that his skills are enough to achieve results. The more I watch Edvinsson's games, the more I see signs of great talent, sometimes he also shows himself as a very promising two-way defender. And I think that he needs to significantly improve his pass game. But this is essentially pumping what he can do. Can do with a lot of mistakes) He does not need to learn to start faster, learn to stand on skates in a board fight as Clark needs to do. I'm not talking about what a titanic job awaits Hughes. I still afraid to compare Edvinsson with big names, but he looks solid enough to grow in a player like Slavin or Lindholm.

Not to be nit picky but the article says it isn't one person's rankings. It's an aggregate of 10 NHL scouts' rankings. So for example, some have Luke in their top 5 and someone or someones had him at 9.

@Guadana, you have clearly watched more of Edvinsson than I have. From my viewings, I liked him but was not totally blown away. But I will admit that I haven't watched an entire shift-by-shift video on him. I really like his potential and I think he's got excellent tools, but I think he's pretty far off from Clarke's hockey IQ and offensive upside. Do you think he is on the level of someone like Seider or Sanderson? Those guys would be slam dunks at this pick. In any case, it's looking more likely that Clarke will be available when the Devils pick anyway.
