JerseyDevil
Is anyone watching NHL2Nite? Does this clown get a raise everytime he says something negative about the Devils? Always has some kind of smart remark or dis on the team. I thought Barry was one of the few Devils supporters on ESPN. I was wrong. This guy is fvcking idiot. I spelled Melrose wrong to.....good...the hell with him. Jerk! Edited April 13, 2004 by JerseyDevil
devilsrule33
Who cares. No offense to you or anyone else who does it but it always amazes me that everyone has to post when someone jabs the Devils. Whatever.
djstubbs
Yeah I notice his negativity, but he supports the Devils more than the other guys...

brodeurfanatic
he supports brodeur. and thats it. He does not support Brodeur... I remember him saying.. "Belfour is the best goalie in the world right now, better than MARTIN BRODEUR". And also he said that we cant score more than 2 goals per game. Jas0nMacIsaac
This board has the most crybabies it isn't funny. Who cares what people say about NJ. They say it because we are the best and have been for a decade.

Weekes Head
he supports brodeur. and thats it. He does not support Brodeur... I remember him saying.. "Belfour is the best goalie in the world right now, better than MARTIN BRODEUR". And also he said that we cant score more than 2 goals per game. He didn't mean overall, he meant in the playoffs. And fact of the matter is, Belfour has been a helluvalot better than Brodeur in the playoffs.
Triumph
Why is it a surprise that the two Canadians on the board are posting about this? The Devils never get the respect that Colorado and Detroit do.
Don
And fact of the matter is, Belfour has been a helluvalot better than Brodeur in the playoffs. You can say that again. As someone who watched the Sens-Leafs game instead of the Devils, all I can say is OMG. Someone get this man some cold medicine ASAP or he'll be unbeatable. Sens had 37 shots on net. None beat Belfour. Overall for the series, Lalime has allowed 6 goals on 60 shots. Not great, not horrible. Belfour has allowed 4 goals on 1,634,974 shots. And has a shutout streak of almost 7 periods going against the top offensive team in the league this year. WTF?!? Now, from what I saw, not only was he good, but he was also lucky. There were a LOT of shots that he didn't see coming that just hit him. You could say "that's talent of knowing how to position your body". Or you could say "what incredible luck". But saying he's outplaying Brodeur isn't biased - it's just plain obvious.
Don
Why is it a surprise that the two Canadians on the board are posting about this? The Devils never get the respect that Colorado and Detroit do. *THE* two? The guy with the flag doesn't count. Anyhow, I see where Jason and DR are coming from. No, the Devils don't get the respect from ABC/ESPN that the Wings and 'Lanche do. Isn't it about time you laugh at them rather than get upset about them? So I guess the country is still united. Triumph
Sorry Don, didn't mean any disrespect. My point was that, the Devils are disrespected in the New York area. The New York Marathon gets more media coverage than the Cup Finals. On the whole, New Jersey Stanley Cups are a suburban affair. The only time I feel like a Devils fan is when I'm at a game or a Stanley Cup celebration. You'd think that the national media would recognize the Devils from afar and praise them. But more often than not, it's disparaging comments and excuses for the other team when the Devils win. I think everyone here is a little touchy because of that. devilsfan26
I'm glad the Devils scored four goals tonight, because that's twice as much as Melrose said they'd get in any game of the series.

redruM
Since people are complainging about the negative media I'll throw something positive in there... Listening to the Balloon & the Baffoon interveiwing Milbury ( who by the way is a great interveiw, the guy does not sugar coat anything), anyway they tried to bait him into agreeing w/ Melrose that NJ ruined the NHl, and to my surprise( when he was on ESPN he was one fo the biggest devil bashers around) he said YOU cannot balme NJ, inthe mid'90's the coaches took over the game, not just NJ, but NJ happened to be the best at it and thats why they became the lightning rod, Thought it wqs great that he defended the DEVS like that... peteyvegas
I wont bash Melrose for his opinion. That's how he feels. When he thinks we're the best, he says it. In fact, that was the first time I've ever heard him say that Marty wasn't the best. The First Time!!!
LOTCB
This board has the most crybabies it isn't funny. No you haven't found a Senator forum yet. Here I'll look for you... I agree that the Devils do not get the respect they should...but I like the attitude of an earlier post of who cares...it really dosent matter what those morons at E$PN think believe me...Im a Yankees fan and we all know how E$PN feels about them... About Ottawa, I do not know if you guys watch HNIC in between periods...but I thought that network is called Hockey Night in Canada, but it appears based on Cherry's whining after the 2nd period of Game 1 and countless other comments by him and others, it might as well be called Hockey Night In Toronto....HNIC is Canada is BY FAR the most biased supposed national show Ive ever seen in sports... I know Derek21 will disagree, as he is giddy over 'his' Leafs win....but we all know ottawa showed no heart or effort, thats why they lost... Toronto makes me want to Edited April 13, 2004 by Legend Of the Clown Banner
SueNJ97
It is sad that what currently constitutes the public MEDIA FACE of hockey in the US, ESPN, hates the Devils, but there isn't anything we can do about it and getting upset about it is probably useless. What I do dislike is when Barry uses blatent untruths (like when he said that the 2000 Cup team couldn't score) to make his tired points about NJ ruining hockey. BTW, did anyone catch the Don LaGreca rant about how it isn't NJ that responsible for ruining hockey, and the low ratings, but ESPN itself???? It was on last Saturday am on 1050 and it was a doozy. Anyway, about Belfour, from what I've seen, which, thanks to ESPN (which was part of LaGreca's point) has only been the friggin' highlights of the Sens-Leafs series, it looks like Eddie the Eagle is back to his 1998-1999 and 1999-2000 (pre-cold medication) form. But we kind of knew this. He's been great all year when his back has held up. For the last 2 summers he's been working out with Tretiak. After the debacle his last year in Dallas he really dedicated himself to getting his technique back and he went to Tretiak to do it. Also, he got married again the summer before he went to Toronto, so I doubt we'll be seeing Eddie out on the town nearly as much, so no more 'incidents' with the police, maybe? All of this means he's the goalie he used to be...which is not good news for other teams.
SC Devs Fan
When whatever team survives from the East starts to manhandle the winner from the West some support will be given to that team by the media (except the Leafs, who are already getting it because they are a 'feel good' story). Why worry about it? I don't believe Barry or his cohorts can do anything to make or break us. And as far as Belfour outplaying Marty, well, up to this point Esche has outplayed him too. Funny though, they don't give out the Cup or the MVP after 3 games in the first round.
Nieuwy25
Legend, I'm a Leafs fan too, but you're right - I can't believe they let Cherry get away with all this "we" stuff! Ridiculous! No wonder other teams/fans complain about the coverage. Belfour beat the Sens last night. That's all there is to it. He stole the game. NJDF
MY memory may be dusty but Melrose has picked us time and time again to come out of the East in the past 10 years. I think he calls it like he sees it. GO DEVILS!!!
HockyStr99
Before the playoffs this year Melros always said, the Devils are terrible for hockey, but Brodeur is the best and I pick them to win, or something along those lines.
Jerrydevil
I find it funny that a hockey "expert" would suggest that one little ol' team in New Jersey is even partly responsible for ruining hockey. It's preposterous. And this guy wants to coach again! What a maroon!
Devil Dog
Recently, on WFAN in NY Barry was on the Mike and the Mad Dog program and made some of the following comments: 1. Lou Lam is not only the best GM in Hockey, but arguably the best GM in sports given that he does the most with the limited finances of the team. 2. Marty is the best goalie in hockey period. 3. The Devils style of play has been bad for hockey. 4. The NHL has to make changes to the game to generate more offense. Alot of his changes/corrections were directed at the officials and how they call games. My own thoughts are that if the NHL does make changes in how the game is played, who better then the "best GM in Hockey" to assemble a team that can compete for the cup under a new set of rules. Frankly Lou would probably have the Devils in front of the learning curve then most of the GM's out there now.
