Derlique
Thought this was a good time to start this thread with this tournament looming. Un(fortunately), Hischier and Bratt are impact players on the big club so they will not be representing Switzerland and Sweden respectively. But don't fret Devils fans! We will be heavily represented at this tournament. Let's take a gander at the locks. Joey Anderson - RW, USA. Recently named captain and will play a ton of minutes in all situations. Michael McLeod- C/RW, Canada. Remember last year when he played like 4 minutes a game? That won't happen again. He will be one of Canada's most important players this year. Marian Studenic- RW, Slovakia. Will likely be Slovakia's best player this tournament. Hopefully he carry his stellar play from juniors to this tournament. Jesper Boqvist- C/LW, Sweden. Rare combo of speed and skill should be good to go after a broken hand sidelined him for a couple of months. Maybe @Marshall can expound on what role he will have. Mikhail Maltsev- C, Russia. A lot of projections have him slated in a top 6 center role for Russia. This tournament should give us a useful measuring stick on where he's at in his development. On the bubble. Fabian Zetterlund- LW, Sweden. One of the youngest players taken in last year's draft. Would be a feat to crack that team. Reilly Walsh- RD, USA. Skilled dman, with good offensive instincts. Yegor Zaitsev- LD, Russia. KHL regular at 19. I think he's a lock, but don't want to put him there as I know next to nothing about him.
LittleBallofHate
Thank you for starting this thread! I've just been putting stuff in the Prospects thread but this is great. A few updates from today: Ian Pulz @HockeyPulz Ian Pulz Retweeted Tre Kronor You can see the #NJDevils prospects goals here. Boqvist - 0:14 Zetterlund - 0:26 & 0:56 https://twitter.com/Trekronorse/status/943039327231098880 Ian Pulz @HockeyPulz So the Swedish WJC team played an exhibition game against Denmark's WJC team. Sweden won 13-1 (yikes). Boqvist had 1G and Zetterlund had 2G. Boqvist was top-line RW and Zetterlund was the extra forward #NJDevils There was no stream of the game. Boqvist and Zetterlund also had 1 assist each. Zetterlund's assist was on Boqvist's goal, and Boqvist's assist was on Zetterlund's goal Mike Morreale @mikemorrealeNHL Really impressed with the play of def Reilly Walsh (NJD) this morning. Get the feeling the release of Hults has lit a fire under all defenders today
mfitz804
How awesome a name is "Fabian Zetterlund". Makes mine so boring by comparison.
LittleBallofHate
Unfortunately, Reilly Walsh was cut from the US team today. ETA: I read that Zaitsev was named Captain of the Russian WJ team - so Anderson & Zaitsev both named Captains. Pretty cool. thecoffeecake
I'll be heading up to Buffalo on the 28th and have tickets for the outdoor game on the 29th, so needless to say I'm excited for this tournament. Was really happy to hear Joey Anderson was named captain. I hope Team USA lives up to either the 2016 group (which was absolutely loaded), and last year's team which had a ton of heart and won gold so dramatically. CommonDreads
I'd personally take Reilly Walsh on my blue line over Mikey Anderson, Scott Perunovich, or Philip Kemp, but hopefully the late cut makes him a top contender for next year's team. I think we got a real good one in Walsh.
LittleBallofHate
Ian Pulz @HockeyPulz Marian Studenic scored two goals for Team Slovakia U20 in their exhibition match against Team Belarus #NJDevils

CommonDreads
I think USA has the best forward group in the tournament, but if I had to put money down on the gold medal right now I would pick Sweden. Great forward group, solid goaltending, and Rasmus Dahlin on the blue line, I think they're gonna dominate their group.

CommonDreads
In case you missed it, Casey Mittelstadt's goal against Slovakia last night was a beaut. Thought he was the most skilled player in the draft in June, he's gonna be a real good one for the Sabres Also today at 3:00 is the outdoor game between the US and Canada. I'm a big Bills fan but even I think USA's Bill inspired uniforms for the game look dumb as hell
