Triumph
I just happened to catch the end of the Islanders game - seems like everyone's favorite left wing is at it again. This time, he stomped on Jarko Ruutu's leg with his skate intentionally. He's been a dirty player since he came into the league (drafted by the Flyers, naturally), and hopefully tonight was his last game. I doubt it will be. thefiestygoat
Just saw the stomping on Islander's post-game. I agree, it is just sick to do something like that, add that in with this guys history, he needs to go. I hope Ruutuu is ok, that could be serious if he gets his tendon or whatever is down there cut. '7'
He's actually a decent player and well liked in every locker room he's been in...problem is he's got a murderous temper and doesn't learn. Simon is like the ex-con who Marge keeps trying to give a 2nd chance because he's a pretty good artist and has his moments of sincerity. Simon will have stretches of play where he scores some points, wins some fights, dominates along the boards...then ooops, he tries to kill somebody. He might've cost his team a point today. 6 minutes to go and he takes a 5 minute major? That's nuts Edited December 16, 2007 by '7'

Triumph
Simon was drafted 17 years ago, he's a big guy, and he never was a great skater. This year he's got 3 points in 25 games. It was going to be his last year anyway - just toss him. The man has absolutely no regard for others' safety out there, and while I realize the most recent two incidents are on two of the dirtiest players in the league (who consistently get away with it), that doesn't justify his response. I was watching a game on NHL Network or MSG or something earlier this year. Rangers-Quebec playoff game. Simon drills Kovalev into the boards and catches a 5, when the Nordiques were down in that game and they'd go on the lose the series. He's always been dirty. Triumph
Since Ruutu didn't appear injured, my guess is Simon gets 5 games, possibly less. If Ruutu were seriously injured, Simon would get 30. God bless Colin Campbell, and Chris Simon's surgeon-like ability to avoid major damage. '7'
I'd give him 8 games now that I've seen the video. This wasn't a brief "lose your cool" type moment (and Simon has had enough of those already)

jkrdevil
Rutuu was lucky it was on the skate boot which is hard a protective. Simon obviously has a long history and this was clearly intentional. He will get a long suspension. The NHL can not have a guy who intentionally kicks players with skates on out there. DevilNurn
Ugh, that's disgusting. It's one thing when a Flyer boards a guy, or someone drops the shoulder a bit too much. But wow, when it's that blatantly intentional and blatantly painful...
Exit56
Considering his past, I'd imagine he'll get the mcsorley treatment.
devils26
As someone who plays hockey, I think hockey players forget how easily skates can become weapons. Kicking somebody with a skate is almost like using a knife as a weapon, and Simon needs to be suspended for at least 50 games. For a first offender I would say 10 games, but because of Simon's history, he needs at least 50 games to show that this won't be tolerated. brodeurrocks
The NHL needs to rid itself of the idiot. It would be a better league without him.
Triumph
Considering his past, I'd imagine he'll get the mcsorley treatment. Very much doubt it. The NHL loves to play media games, and this won't get the play his last incident did. The NHL will just want this to go away.
stevestevens
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2iWygvPnC4 Thats a really good angle to see it. 12 seconds in you could see the money shot. Once i saw the video i just posted, the number of games i would suspend him for went up.

peteyvegas
Is it me, or is there an inordinate amount of sympathy for that scumbag Ruutu on this board. The only reason Simon did it is because Ruutu didn't think of it first. Gee!! Poor, poor Ruutu!! Ponderous!!
