exposfan33
What is the possibility of Scott Niedermayer returning to the swamp. This is mere speculation but here is some facts ive found compelling. The Ducks are the worst team in the west; Scotts brother Rob is on the team; the 95 team is back(sort of) with Rolston, Holik, Lemaire, Brodeur; if they acquire him at trade deadline there will be enough cap room for him. He has a no trade clause in his contract but I think Devils would be the only team he would lift it for based on the facts ive provided. RowdyFan42
Highly improbable. There are a number of reasons, but most important in my mind is, what package of players and picks do you plan on giving up for him? The price Anaheim will ask will be far too rich for Lou's blood, or for anyone's, for that matter.

DevilinLA
Well, here's a scenario that hasn't been THOROUGHLY BEATEN, BRUISED, and WHIPPED TO A SLOW PAINFUL DEATH yet here on this board. Welcome to the board! If you do a quick topic search you will see a number of threads with many opinions on the matter.

USC09
Right now is not the time to discuss trades or rumors. I don't think the Devils really need Scott Niedermayer, because the core d-men that are currently on the team are playing very well and Paul Martin is yet to come back, so for now I would imagine no Niedermayer. The question now is, who comes out of the line-up when Martin does come back? It would suck to see Fraser be a healthy scratch, but that the nature of the game right now. My prediction and I will not throw out any names is that Lou will likely get a forward at the deadline rather than a defenseman, but Niedermayer will be the guy if he trades for blue-line help. Agreed, Scotty's NJ return in a trade is more about a devils fans nostalgia trip then anything else for most. A quick survey of some Anaheim games will show that he's clearly lost a bit and is not the 2003 or even Ducks Cup 2007 player that most remember. IMHOP, I don't think he can bring nearly as much as it would cost this franchise. Those thinking that we're gonna get pull him over by offering up PL3, Peters, Pelley, and whatever other spare parts don't get the ANA organizational philosophy. They're not giving up. Personally, I think Scotty's under the assumption that they are awarding the SC Cup at VAN in Feb.
mouse
If Nieds was physical, I'd say go after him, but our top 3 blueliners are all fast finesse guys. No need to add a 4th, even if he's better than any of ours, which he probably is. He's older, more expensive, and Lou would have to give up good players to get him. I could see Lou trading Greene or Oduya for a decent physical guy, since right now they're in deep if Sal or White gets hurt, and they both have a history of injuries, but as others have said, Nieds is just a nostalgic fantasy. Devils Pride 26
I'd take a flier on Aucoin for a mid pick/prospect if available. I've already made my thoughts about Zidlicky known.

exposfan33
Long story short, I have a pen-friend in NJ and she took me to a Devils game on April 27 1995 vs Florida. Even though I'd visited her before (1990) I got an interest then moreso than before. I must have read a hundred books on hockey and seen countless videos and dvds of games from the 1950's onward. Nice its good to see people understanding the rich history hockey has. Well this is my last post of the night hope to chat with you again. my email is posted on my profile. Glad to have found this site.
NJDevil1530
As much as I would love the see Scotty back as a Devil, it wont happen, we would have to give up a lot to get him back here and the Ducks have already said no to trading him, besides Martin will be ready in a couple weeks. I cant possibly imagine Lou will trade Greene or Oduya, they are too valuable for this team's chemistry, atleast at this point in time. Secondly, its hard to say how things will pan out over the next three months. If Lou trades, he tweaks without sacrificing any top prospects in this salary cap environment. I think a lot of us were expecting some huge trades over the last couple of years during the trade deadline, and we got the likes of Havelid. maxpower
I don't know that he'll cost as much as people think. but, he'll probably cost us more than it would someone else, since I have a feeling we tried to horn in on him on July 1st when he had given his word he'd sign with the Ducks. he's not what he was, but it would be nice to have someone else in the lockeroom that has won. (and it's starting to get scarce here, believe it or not) One of our defensemen has won a Cup, some of them don't really even have positive playoff experiences to fall back on, actually, I should say most, because only White and Sal have been deep in the playoffs. alot the same for the forward corp, but there is more winning playoff experience there. This sounds very familiar. I think this was in a Burnside or (N)Єverson article, because i thoroughly remember him saying the devils played in the swamp and Holik was on the team and everyone one the board was calling him out for being a dumbass. MantaRay
I would take Nieds back if the price was right for us, meaning 2nd or a 3rd picks. Nothing else.

I would ask you to use caution in thinking our D is good enough to compete in the playoffs. Just look at our implosion last year in the last two minutes against Carolina. You get Nieder and Bryce Salvador in there the last two minutes and perhaps Staal goes home empty handed. We have a decent team, but not one that can go far in the playoffs if we don't get veteran reinforcements on defense. That I could be totally positive of. I'm curious to see if our "D" are just overachieving at this moment or are the real deal.
