Daniel
Probably cannot sign both this offseason. Assume both are willing to resign, Kovy with an $8 million cap hit, Martin with a $5 million cap hit, and also assume that each will be more or less as good as they are right now in light of age, years in the league, injury history etc. While I imagine most will say Kovy, the answer is not as obvious as some might think. Good defensemen are at a premium these days, and of course Martin costs less, making it much easier to re-sign Parise and others down the road. So who's it gonna be. nyrsuck26
Our defense core is a joke without Martin. If somehow keeping both is impossible, keep Martin.
Devils731
It's way too early to know, it's definitely possible to keep both in a number of scenarios.
ThreeCups
KOVY, regardless of any other scenarios. You can sign a cheaper, capable defenseman or bring one up. We have played all year without Martin. Guys like Kovy did not come around often!
SS-SS
Well you can sign both if you get rid of Rolly boy and his cap hit
Daniel
Well you can sign both if you get rid of Rolly boy and his cap hit I can't imagine a way you can get rid of Rolston's cap hit in light of his NMC. I could see dumping Pando's $2.5 mill hit though.

robdeselich88
martin will deff be signed, kovy may be signed as well. Clarkson is due money as well. this is why lou didnt go for the free agents this year, parise is do money in two years as well. But he'll get a nice contract. devsin4
Probably a dumb question. But isthere any rules in the new CBA that ateam or player can renegotiate a player's contract thru an arbitrator? I guess not recalling the Malikov(spelling?) situation...If so, Rolston's is a perfect example.
devsin4
Lou to unsuspecting GMs: Brian Rolston. Great team man. Willing to sacrafice the body to complete the play! Wish I can install his heart and skills in all our players! And you only have to pay him 5mil.It's a steal!

DevilinLA
Hopefully today's game proves why retaining Martin should be a HUGE priority. Edited February 14, 2010 by DevilinLA
El Diablo
We have never had the offensive skills that kovy brings and will probably never will . martin is good but not great ..if you were talking stevens, neds, there would be an argument kovy is a great player.. they dont come around often. lou has to figure out a way to fix his rolston mistake

Especially if he can relieve the team of Winky. ...but even w/Kovy...the defense needs to be retained/upgraded. It does no good if no one can ever get Kovy the puck. Blown01NJ
Is there a way to get rid of Rolston and have another team pay a portion of his salary and we pay the rest? At least we could free up SOME cap space.

SS-SS
OMG...at this point if i was Lou i would be ready to trade Rolston for two or three hockey stick and a puck. Louuuuuuuuuuu, trade him for 2 fourth round picks
mouse
Can we pay someone under the table to take Rolston's cap hit?
HellOnICE
Martin, but we'll see what happens - we need to get rid of the Pando contract. Somehow someway, and if we can get rid of Rolston too, that would be a godsend - but I hate that guy so much.

Getting rid of Pando's cap hit isn't a problem if Lou were inclined to do so and if JV were willing to eat the contract; we could put him in Lowell. Rolston's deal is the real problem. britoon
Do coaches count against the cap? Axe Pando, Rolly, and Peters. If a Kovy deal is doable, KEEP HIM. Edited February 14, 2010 by britoon
jim777
I like them both, but guys with Kovy's shot simply don't come around that often. I'd love to see Kony with the Devs for a full season, I think that would be awesome. So....find a way to keep 'em both, or keep Kovy.
