JWomp
I've been noticing a few of our players with considerable stubble and facial hair lately. What happened to Lou's rule? Is he more relaxed about it now or are the players sticking it to him?
Quinn01
Im sure he told the players, "Look do what ever it is that makes you comfortable just put the puck in the damn net please." But yeah I have noticed Elias, Greene, Kovy and White have a shadow on a regular basis now.
Marshall
That rule was the worst rule ever. I hope it's gone. Poor Johnny Oduya had to keep his awesome beard at bay in NJ, no wonder he's happy in Atlanta.
hurricane1091
I like the rule to be honest. I don't mind shadow though. Not that I don't enjoy playoff beards, I just enjoy being a classy organization. Having your helmet on during warmups is a good rule too. stevestevens
I don't see how having a beard is unclassy, hurricane1091. I think its part of it being "Lou's team". He is strict because he wants everyone to know who runs the show.
njmar
I was under the impression the rule came from Lou's association with the Yankees, maybe when the Devils were sold to YankeeNets many years ago (but I could be mistaken).. Don't the Yankees have something similar in place re facial hair and no long hair? I remember a few players who had to cut their longer hair when they came to the Yankees organization. ZeroGravityFat
steinbrenner is gone, and so is the yanks/devs rule.
Colin226
Yes, I'm pretty sure Lou follows the same school as Steinbrenner did.. I like it, too.. I think it looks more professional and represents the organization's image better.. It's like wearing a suit and tie when you travel with the team

The suit and tie is pretty much standard across the league. No need for a facial hair rule though....
Pepperkorn
I'm not sure what the rules are -- all I know is that whenever the team went on an extended road trip Stevens would sometimes get a stubble. More than once -- I guess maybe he forgot his razor more than once or something but... and I noticed fuzz on guys earlier this season and was going to comment that maybe if they had discipline to even freaking SHAVE they'd start winning. Obviously I was wrong on that count I'm all blah now because of the Jets...

No need for a facial hair rule though.... Well for starters it looks cleaner, on top of looking more professional.. I've never seen a CEO with more than a mustache if that, because the clean cut look is more professional.. I'm looking for a better word to describe it but it's escaping me right now
Satans Hockey
I've always thought it was a stupid rule. These guys should be allowed to have facial hair and long hair if they want. They aren't suits, they are hockey players.
Devs4LIFE
I understand the rule about keeping facial hair under control but I don't see the problem with players having facial hair if they keep it groomed. look at Gionta in MTL, he has a goatee but it's well kept so it doesn't look trashy. I too have noticed this, maybe it has to do with the fact that Kovy probably gets a 5 o'clock shadow by noon so the other players feel they can get away with not shaving for a couple of days. Ollie McKraut
facial hair looks bad 99% of the time and shaving is just a good habit. That said, it shouldn't be a requirement.
95Crash
I can understand that some people like facial hair and some people don't. Personal preference, I suppose. But to make it a team rule ... c'mon, this is freaking hockey we're talking about. But that's Lou, I guess.
SterioDesign
can you imagine back in the days a full season with Daneyko and his huge playoffs beard and no teeth... that was scary seriously
maxpower
AFAIK, that's still a rule. I do agree that some guys are coming pretty close to testing it, but maybe they just grow facial hair quickly.... lol, there's no one totally blowing off the rule and coming out looking like a homeless person, so I guess it's still in place Edited January 24, 2011 by maxpower

SterioDesign
would be fun to hear a trade talk between Lou, Murray and Parros agent about trading Parros to NJ... too tired to put a scenario together but feel free guys lol
Revan
This fits just right: Top 5 NHL Playoff Beards of the Last 10 Years. Can't believe Dano isn't there, but Commodore and, of course, Scotty Nieds are good, too.
