So ya mean TSN made a mistake initially with Burke in Pitt? Or someone did. Cause when I saw him listed under Tampa, I thought it was a joke.

Good move by the Lightning. I guess they plan to go the same route with Grahame as the Flyers did with Esche. Even though they lost a few players, if they get Lecavalier and St. Louis signed, they're going to still be very formidable.

The Calgary Flames on Wednesday announced the retirement from the NHL of Turek, who won a Stanley Cup with Dallas in 1999 and posted a career year one season later with St. Louis.

The 35-year-old Turek, who spent parts of eight seasons in the NHL, will continue his playing career in his native Czech Republic.

hrdina signed with the blue jackets...according to sportsnet.ca

I still think we should have tendered him and traded him, or someone else, later... We gave up Rupp and a 2nd rounder (57th overall--- It wound up going to the Oilers, who drafted a 2 way center in Geoff Paukovich) in 2004 so he could play 13 reg season games (1g, 6a) and 5 playoffs games (2g, 0a)... for a total of 18 games, 3 goals, 6 assists?

Grant it hindsight is 20/20, but in hindsight, Lou got hosed ;)

I dont think tendering him would have put us in a position of weakness like taking Roenick and a 3rd rounder for nothing.... We could have easily picked up a 3rd rounder or something for Hrdina which is better than nothing.

Tendering Hrdina would've put us in a very difficult spot. We obviously could not tender both Kozlov and Hrdina, and Hrdina cannot play RW, so that I think is why Lou tendered Kozlov over him. With other teams knowing this, I'd be surprised if we got a 5th for him - Hrdina was not worth the price of his tendered contract anyway, so who knows about even a 5th.

Hindsight is 20/20 but I think the deal was made for the right price - Mike Rupp would be non-tendered or gone on waivers anyway, and while a 2nd round pick is nice, it was worth acquiring Hrdina for - recall that Hrdina was signed through 2005 so we would've had a year of him had the lockout not happened, or even if we had played a partial season.

Samsonov, Axelsson return to Bruins

Canadian Press

8/10/2005 4:33:08 PM

BOSTON (CP) - Winger Sergei Samsonov has accepted his one-year, $2.77-million US qualifying offer from the Boston Bruins, the NHL team announced Wednesday.

Samsonov, 26, was fifth on the Bruins in 2003-04 in goals scored with 17 despite missing 23 games with a knee and rib injury.

He has played in just 66 games over the past two NHL seasons due to injury, missing 74 games in 2002-03 after wrist surgery.

Winger P. J. Axelsson also accepted his qualifying offer of $1.064 million.

The 30-year-old Swede joined the Bruins in 1997-98 following four years in the Swedish Elite League with Frolunda Goteborg.

He has twice scored ten-or-more goals in a season, including 2002-03 when he established career season-highs with 17 goals and 19 assists in 66 games.

He spent the lockout season in Sweden with Frolunda Goteborg.

Could we have taken him to salary arb? If so, I imagine we would have won and then would have had a more affordable asset to trade.

While it did make sense at the time of the trade, If we knew the season would be wiped out and contracts not carried, we would not have paid that much.

who cares -- what's done is done and I dont think it makes that much of a difference in dollars and cents or in trade bait or talent or anythign -- it's just not that big of a deal one way or the other -- Devils didn't take any kind of a bath anywhere IMO. It costs more in time to think through the possible reprocussions than just going ahead and cutting lose any of these guys hrdina, rupp which ever situation you want to ponder -- at the end of the day it just doesn't matter it had to be done. Any alternate solution is more than likely a wash - right?
