mfitz804
16 games now since he was called up, and I think he looks pretty good. He plays very physical, he always seems to be in position, I haven't seen him make a lot of bad defensive plays. What do you think of him so far? ATLL765
He seems no worse than Salvador, he's a better skater at this point, more fleet of foot for sure. He's nothing great right now, but to come up to the NHL and avoid being made to look stupid is a feat in and of itself. If he can continue sufficiently filling the role that Salvador has been as the physical, stay at home, pk specialist kind of guy, he deserves that spot next year. Especially so given that we have the most offensively skilled blueline we've had in many years with Green, Severson, Larsson, Merrill, Gelinas and possibly even Zidlicky coming back next year. As cliche as it sounds, he does bring that physical element that our defense otherwise lacks. Edited December 21, 2014 by ATLL765

He hasn't done anything memorable, but that includes not doing anything mind numbingly stupid. I feel like he transitioned to NHL play without much of an adjustment period. I mean he's not a top 2 guy buy he seems a solid, serviceable NHLer.
Mike Brown
I like him. Solid shutdown guy.

I'd really like to see if he can continue to improve and take on some tougher minutes later in the season or next year. It'd be great to have that prototypical shutdown defenseman we haven't had since Salvador fell off the cliff.

SterioDesign
To be honest.... i see him as a replacement of Salvador... so here's how i feel I feel like a mother who saw her daughter going out with an unemployed-no life-drug addict-abusive boyfriend for 4 years and wouldnt do anything about it no matter how bad he was for her. Then she gets another polite boyfriend who simply works at McDonalds... So basically i like him like a mother would love that McDonalds kid.

NewarkDevil5
You know exactly what he's saying Neb. He's so disappointed with what Salvador's been that even though Helgeson's only a passable replacement level defenseman in the same kind of role, he's swooning over him. Granted he used PK level metaphor to describe it, but you understood exactly what he was saying and I defy you to say you didn't.
devils102
Trade him Haha! I haven't watched a ton of the games he's played in because of internet issues, but what I've seen I've liked. He can skate alright which is key those big guys. Not great with the puck, but as others have pointed out we have enough of those guys. Except you know the abusive boyfriend is WAYYY better looking so it's only a matter of months before burger flipping Bob is on the outs.
Triumph
I'll be the dissenter here - I like his game okay, and he's willing to stand up for his teammates and all that, but he's a total nothing in the offensive end and only knows to chip the puck out at every opportunity. He can be a 7th D, I guess, but it's hard for me to expect a ton of improvement out of a guy who is 24, and I don't think he's good enough at the things he's good at to make up for all the things he can't do. BostonNala370
Yeah he needs more time to see if he can improve his game. Today he is just so so.

Exactly. He's a number 7 and I'm fine with that. Every team needs ditch diggers too.

Yeah, I get his point about Salvador. I was simply poking fun at his metaphor. Which I think he, even offered somewhat in jest.

Louismydad
I love his physical play, he's strong as a bull, have you seen him push guys around out there?!? The only thing is he has no hands at all, whenever he touches the puck he looks confused at what to do.
