Fights at the Devils/Flyers game 01/09

Weekes Head

Recommended Posts

Just got home from the game -- man oh man, the crowd was CRAZY.

So, here's the deal on one of the fights:

I'm sitting in 220, just waiting for the second period to start, and I hear all this yelling. I look a section over (to 219), and I see a guy in an Eagles TO jersey giving crap to a Devils fan two rows below him. They're going back and forth for a while, and then some guy on crutches a few rows above the TO guy decides to throw a soda at him. They start cursing at one another, but nothing really happens. All is calm for now.

HOWEVER...during the third period, all of a sudden, I hear someone yell "fvck YOU!!" really loudly. I look over to 219 again and I see TO guy standing, staring down the guy he had been yelling at before. He tries to get him to fight, but the Devils fan just laughs at him and continues to egg him on. At this point, a female usher runs up and holds back TO guy until a bigger usher can come and break things up.

This is when chaos would ensue.

TO guy shoves the female usher and tries to go at the Devils fan by climbing down the rows, but at this point, maybe a good seven or eight LARGE male ushers have run all the way up to the top of 219 to break everything up. TO guy gets uber pissed and tries to take them all on, failing miserably. He's being restrained, but is trying to escape so he can fight somebody -- anybody. He takes a swing at one of the ushers, who doesn't take crap from no one apparently, and sucker punches him RIGHT in the face. TO guy gets even madder and tries to desperately fight the usher who had punched him, with his girlfriend also in the mix now, trying to fight the ushers as well. She is restrained also, screaming and yelling, kicking and punching at anything in sight.

The fans around are loving this, meanwhile, screaming "ASSSSHOLE!!" and "TO SUCKS!" among other things.

And THIS is where hilarity would ensue.

All 8 or 9 ushers PICK TO guy up and literally CARRY him down the entire section, while he is kicking and screaming like a little baby -- yes, they were CARRYING him. They also carried his girlfriend down, who was also kicking and screaming. He had countless things thrown at him and shouted at him, while our section (220) sang "NA NA NA HEY HEY HEY GOOD BYE!"

After the two were kicked out, the Devils fan was approached by a police officer and they talked for a good ten minutes before the officer and the other ushers would leave. Devils fan never got kicked out, he got to enjoy the rest of the game and also was given high fives and handshakes by everyone around him.

It was single handidly one of the greatest things I've ever seen.

Wow that is awesome. That is something you would never seen in Ottawa in a million years even though half the fans at a Sens-Leafs game are Toronto fans. That is just unheard of in Ottawa.

Hey guys, haven't posted in a looong time, but I was there, remotely close to what was happening in the stands, so I though I'd share what I saw.

It was all in the third period, first, I was sitting 2nd row in section 209. The corner section to the left of me is where the first action happened. All I saw was a flyer fan being physically escorted out of the arena, and by physically I mean one guy on eah arm and one guy on each leg, they carried him out!

Then the action started up in 205 and 206. There were bunches of flyer fans in 205 screaming all night and there were a few outgoing Devils fans standing up for our home ice. Anyways, it got ugly, beers, and punches were thrown, and security guards came running. They cleared out about two or three rows of flyer fans. One guy was fighting to stay and got pushed down the steps even. It seemed as if i was turned to my right to watch that action in the last 7 minutes of the game as much as I was watching the ice. Very distracting, honestly, although glad to see those bums get kicked out of our house, just like their team did.

Anyways, then it was back to the game, and then the corner across the arena had some action brewing, I thought I saw a bunch of fists thrown and the like. Not too sure what happened over there. All in all it was really ugly. Don't know any details really of the altercations, but I have to say...it only happens with flyers fans.

And quite possibly one of the greatest things I've ever read. God I wish could have been there so bad, at least I sold my ticket. Can you imagine how many angry drunk drivers are on the turnpike approaching exit 7 right about now? That guy's life is ruined. A lot of those ushers in the blue suits are state troopers out of uniform from what I hear.

Yeah, I just read that. It all makes sense now that I read the details. Me and my friend were just laughing histerically when we saw him being carried away.

Scary part was, for the longest time I couldn't figure out if it was one of my good friends or not. He looked EXACTLY like him. Worse yet, he'd be capable of something like that too! You could imagine my relief when I figured it wasn't him :)

There were also two accidents when we were leaving the arena -- right outside of the exit onto Route 3, four cars involved. Me thinks alcohol was involved.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I'm sure it was. I can't begin to say how much it pleases me to send those cretins home surly and disappointed night after night when they come up the turnpike. I'll never forget one of my first Devils/Flyers games in 1993 when two WHOLE SECTIONS fought. 201 and 244, everyone was fighting, and about 75 Failure fans were thrown out. Of course it was "holiday ornament night". I truly despise that entire city and their sports fans.

Wow RD. It projected on TV pretty loudly. I knew there had to be a few rumbles because even Doc eluded to it.

Just another reason to dislike Flyer fans.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Man there was a CRAZY rumble right behind me tonight- in addition to 2 others that I saw. Flyer fans are truly the lowest of the low class.

Boy CAA only gets ugly when the Flyers come to town... what is it with their fans ? Cup envy ?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I dunno but I'm almost sad I'm only gonna get to go to one more Flyer game this year  (going on vacation in April and missing the last two) Having a birds-eye view with the festivities between the guy in the T.O. jersey and the TEN ushers that the guy tried to fight and who had to physically carry the guy out of the arena was fun stuff

Saying nothing for the actual game :P And going with one friend and seeing another there helps my mood too, all in all a merry night! :boogie:

amazing how theres only trouble when the Flyers are in town.

I have no voice right now. those Flyer fans got it tonight.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Yeah, I have a feeling my voice is going to be a little scratchy tomorrow. I'll be paying for all the "FLYERS SUCK!" and "a$$hole" chants I yelled tonight!

The greatest thing I saw because I wasn't at the game was the Devils beating the Flyers. What a great game they played, one of the best if not the best of the season.

Imagine beating the Flyers, shutting out the Flyers and scoring 3 goals.

He doesn't need the letter "C" he is the CAPTAIN. I didn't think he (alone) could be the savior of this team but I was wrong.

Ha, same story I was talking about -- TO guy. That's an instant classic, btw. I should split the thread and make that its own post just so people can see it, I don't want it to get lost in the GT.

My God what in the hell happened tonight? I guess the sting of not winning it in 04 after beating us and the Eagles wonderful season pushed the Failure fans over the edge. Just so everyone knows, that ENTIRE arena is under surveilance. They can pretty much zoom a camera close enough to see the food in your teeth and any time security radios in a problem, those cameras zoom and and start shooting at once, so basically if any charges are pressed against the inbreds from south of 7A, they're done. If anybody on this board was involved in any incidents, contact the Devils and the arena tomorrow. When I used to sit in 223 we had an incident at a game once and were disgusted with the way the ushers and security handled it, so the head of security came and talked to us and showed us how advanced their system is there, and that was 6 years ago...Still wish I was there tonight instead of stuck staring at four walls for 8 straight days though!! :argh::argh::argh:

I kept quiet around the Flyers fans by us -- and there were a ton. I don't want to sh!t on ALL Flyers fans here, because we're talking abuot those select few who are a$$holes, there ARE good fans out there. There were two Flyers fans next to me tonight who were good natured, laughing at a lot of the chants and such -- really didn't take anything seriously. Good for them at least.

The one thing I *did* do was tell TO Guy to sit down when he tried to take on this poor guy on crutches (and he did look at me and give me the finger, btw, and no, I didn't yell at him in an antagonistic way). Granted, Crutches Guy threw his soda at him, but just sit down, dude. If you have a problem, take it to security, don't try to fight everyone around you -- especially when you're surrounded by Devils fans who won't take sh!t from you. He was a little punk and I hope he never is allowed back in the CAA with the way things went down. Man, I can't believe someone had to have been carried out of the CAA by their arms and legs like a little baby. Really sad.
