New York Rangers at New Jersey Devils Preview.

The New York Rangers' struggles reached a new low with their worst defensive performance in nearly 16 years. Their defense didn't fare much better in its last trip to New Jersey.

The Rangers look to avoid both their fifth straight loss overall and their fifth consecutive road defeat when they return to the Prudential Center on Monday to face the Devils.

As it faces a team it trails by six points in the Atlantic Division race, New York (29-19-5) will attempt to rebound from Friday's 10-2 drubbing in Dallas. Trailing by two entering the final period, the Rangers gave up six unanswered goals and allowed an opponent to reach double digits for the first time since a 10-4 defeat to Pittsburgh on April 9, 1993.

New York's 8-5 defeat at New Jersey on Dec. 12 followed a similar pattern.

New Jersey (33-17-3) holds a four-point lead over second-place Philadelphia in the Atlantic, but has dropped two of its last three games.

"I wasn't pleased at all with the way we've played at home," said New Jersey coach Brent Sutter, whose team is 15-10-1 at home compared with 18-7-2 on the road. "We don't find that on the road. We'll have to correct it."

This is a big game for both teams tonight after coming off bad losses in their last games. New Jersey lost at home to LA on Saturday night and need to bounce back with a win tonight on home ice and to take the series lead over the struggling NYR. The NYR have lost 4-in a row and lost one of their worst games in the history of their franchise losing an embarrassing game 10-2 to Dallas on Friday night. Hopefully New Jersey will put up a lot of goals again on Lundqvist and get the win.

New Jersey had the day off yesterday as TG reported and thinks Clemmensen will get the start vs. the NYR. Clemmensen is 2-0 vs. the NYR this season. Lundqvist is still sufferring from flu-like symptoms, but will play vs. New Jersey.

Devils have day off before taking on Rangers

The Devils lead the Rangers by six points in the Atlantic Division standings. The Rangers are on a season-worst four-game losing streak (0-3-1). The Devils have lost two of three since an eight-game winning streak, with both losses coming at home. They opened a five-game homestand with a 3-1 loss to Los Angeles on Saturday night after winning 5-1 in Atlanta on Friday.

With no practice today, we'll have to wait until Monday's morning skate to find out whether Scott Clemmensen or Kevin Weekes will start in net for the Devils. If I had to guess, I'd say it would be Clemmensen, but that's only because Brent Sutter has gone back to Clemmensen so often this season. Sutter mentioned after Saturday's game that he thought Clemmensen was "solid" against the Kings and didn't get much help from his teammates.

It was definitely a better performance by Clemmensen than in the 5-2 loss to Washington on Tuesday.

The New Jersey PP and PK needs to play better in this game and needs to play their games at home like they have on the road this season. Get the first goal and get the crowd going in this game even though the crowd will be already reved up for this one. I would like to see Pandolfo back in the line up for this game vs. the NYR as he has had some big games vs. the NYR including the last meeting where Pandolfo got a SHG on Lundqvist to start the scoring for New Jersey in the 4-2 win @ MSG on December 27, 2008. New Jersey could also use him on their PK in this game as well. maybe scratch Rupp or Holik for a game here, but Sutter most likely won't because of their size over the NYR. It's time to put the NYR out of their misery in this game and get off the 2-game losing streak on home ice.

Get the win Devils and get er done! :koolaid:
