bostondevil11
i still think norway's curling pants are awesome. YES they rule! I am a fan of them on facebook. I also like that Noways woman wear skirts. I love curling I got sucked into it 8 years ago. As a joke a friend made an event to watch curling friday night at the local bar. This joke got out of control and it got a write up in the Boston Herald and channel new 7 showed up to do a story on the event (never aired though but my picture is on their twitter page). Par9
I like curling. @Jimmy I've watched Shuster/McCormick and quickly found out how they score. The center circle(button) is where the general area you want it. If at the end of the end the two closest rocks are yellow, that team(yellow) gets two points. If the the closest one is yellow then the next is red the team throwing yellow rocks gets one points. jim777
Hot babes aside, Curling still almost killed some people in the movie "Help". If George Harrison hadn't yelled, "Evil Thingy!" who knows what might have happened to The Beatles' trip to Jamaica? You know, just putting it out there... Jerrydevil
Curling rocks, and so does Don Duguid. I love it!
RowdyFan42
How the hell have I missed this thread all along? Disregard curling haters, acquire proximity to the button. Thread is more of a chance to give a shout out to my friend, Andrew Catalon, who's doing all the play-by-play for curling. As I mentioned once before, he's a HUGE Devils fan, with the Kevin Todd jersey to prove it. An absolute thrill to see him interviewing Gretzky last night. Double shout-out to Catalon as he's one of the sports anchors at the NBC affiliate here in Albany. He also did handball during the last Summer Olympics. Also, I'm quite partial to the Dupont sisters (Denise and Madeleine) from Denmark: They're not bad, but geez, would it kill them to smile once in a while? The one match of theirs I saw drove me crazy because they looked so freakin' bored. Nothing worse than a hot chick who looks like they'd rather be somewhere else. Colin226
Since when did curling become a fraternity game? I miss the days when curlers were unattractive and unathletic
Devils1985
Heh, I saw how long this thread had become and clicked in wondering what the heck Gretzky said that I missed, only to find out it's all about curling Which, I will admit, is rather addictive. Sometimes I'd wish the announcers would do a little more explaining of what's going on, like Doc does at hockey games. What's wild is there's multiple matches going on at once. They addressed this at one broadcast, basically saying there were a lot of Olympics fans there as opposed to actual curling fans as it's considered bad form to be so loud, out of respect for the other matches going on. One of the womens' teams was really upset as they said it killed their concentration. It clearly requires a very light touch on the rock. INLOUWETRUST
Curling is actually a pretty cool sport, and from what I have heard from people...it has created a nice buzz in the States. It is gigantic in Canada and pulls in massive ratings, but I only really watch during the Olympics. It really is a perfect sport to Tivo, where you can fast forward a lot of the talking in between the shots and the first few stones from each end. It definitely has some incredible strategy and some of the shot-making ability is fantastic. If anyone ever tried it, you'll have a lot more appreciation. No offense to MB3, but Curling isn't a sport that would probably create much buzz in a high school. Also, the babes of curling doesn't hurt either. Jas0nMacIsaac
I watch all the major tournaments on TV. Curling is one of the more strategic sports you can find and there is quite a bit of skill involved as well. If you want to watch the best, watch Martin for Canada. His team is the most talented top to bottom and he usually makes the best decisions.
David Puddy
1. I'm enjoying watching curling every once in a while, but it's on too damned much. 2. I really think the Olympics should only showcase sports that take athletic skill (at least one of strength, speed, stamina, agility). People in marching bands break more of a sweat than curlers. 3. That said, if shooting and archery can be in the Summer Games, curling can be in the Winter Games. 4. I think they should bring back tug of war as an Olympic event!
