Best possible outcome:

Kings W

Coyotes W

Points out of 8th: 12 with 1 game in hand

Conference place: 13th (5 points, giving 1 game)

Worst possible outcome:

If Carolina loses the next two to Philly/Devs, Rangers lose to Kings/Devs, we will be 8 points away from 8 th seed with a game in hand. Lets take a look at the end of today

TEAM - GP --- PT --- Next 4 day outcome (all scenarios are likely, not optimal)

Rangers: 58 --- 64 --- loses to Kings/Devils/Philly

Canes: 58 --- 62 --- loses to Philly/Devils

Sabres: 56 --- 60 --- beats the Blues/loses to Caps

Atlanta: 58 --- 60 --- loses to Yotes/beats the Oilers

Leafs: 58 --- 56 --- beats the Sens

Florida: 56 --- 55 --- loses to Wings/Lightning

Devils: 57 --- 50 --- beats Rangers/Canes

This is what we see Monday Morning:

TEAM ------- GP --- PT --- Best Case Scenario PT

Rangers: 61 --- 64 --- 64

Canes: 60 --- 62 --- 62

Sabres: 58 --- 62 --- 60

Atlanta: 60 --- 62 --- 60

Leafs: 59 --- 58 --- 56

Florida: 58 --- 55 --- 55

Devils: 59 --- 54 --- 54

If all works out well, then we are in a great position to make a playoff push, the next two games are equally important as the rest of the games for next week.

8 - Carolina - 57 GP - 62 Points

9 - Buffalo - 55 GP - 60 Points

10 - Atlanta - 58 GP - 60 Points

11 - Florida - 55 GP - 55 Points

12 - Toronto - 57 GP - 54 Points

13 - NY Islanders - 57 GP - 49 Points

14 - New Jersey - 56 GP - 48 Points

Fourteen seems to be the number of the day. We were 11 points back, now we're 14. We were in 13th place, now we're 14th.

Update:

8 - Carolina - 58 GP - 62 Points

9 - Buffalo - 56 GP - 60 Points

10 - Atlanta - 58 GP - 60 Points

11 - Toronto - 58 GP - 56 Points

12 - Florida - 56 GP - 55 Points

13 - New Jersey - 57 GP- 50 Points

Suck it, 14! Back in 13th place and 12 points back of the 8th spot. Just one game and we're pretty much back where we were before the four-day layoff.

Good stuff there, but I see this team getting to 90 points and not leaving any doubt!

they need 20 points in 25 games.

20 - 5, 19 -4 - 2 This are VERY possible scenerios.

They dont have to win 10 - 12 - 15 in a row, but they cant lose multiple games in a row.

This thread started as a very very improbable vision, and has now grown and continued and now while is still a long shot is at least possible!!

Lets Go Devils, Knock the Rags off tomorrow night and keep this thing alive!!

no matter what the devils end up doing, i will be eager to revisit how these teams do down the stretch. three point games will kill us.

carolina is interesting. i think they are going to end up selling. they already think they are trading ian white - can they really hold on to joni pitkanen? if they trade both these guys their defense is ravaged.

Tonight's games are interesting because they not only affect us, but also the EXTREMELY TIGHT Western Conference playoff race.

We obviously want the Kings to beat the Rangers tonight. And as luck would have it, they have a BIG INCENTIVE to win. They currently sit in the No. 9 spot in the West with 67 points. A win against the Rangers would give the Kings 69 points and would all of a sudden bump them up possibly as high as the No. 3 seed in the West, depending on what the other teams in that conference do. That's how bunched up the West is right now.

And the Coyotes, who we obviously want to beat the Thashers tonight, are temporarily sitting atop the Pacific Division and in the No. 3 spot in the conference with 69 points. They are riding a five-game winning streak that temporarily has enabled them to stave off EVERY other team in their OWN division. The Pacific Division's Sharks, Ducks and Stars each have 68 points, and the Kings have 67. Not to mention the Central Division's Predators has 68 points too. A Coyotes loss tonight would put a big damper on their playoff position.

Carolina has so many home games left that it would be tough on the fanbase to start selling off assets.

Damm Rags!! Atleast the Bruins kept the Icelanders back. Now lets go Coyotes.

Its still ok, they have 2 games in hand over us. We take care of our business tomorrow and we are fine.

HUGE GAME, tomorrow as well as pullin for the Flyers to beat the Canes!! And Detroit to beat Florida!!

If those things happen tomorrow night we will be feeling pretty good about the Devils come Saturday!

Kings did well but Bernier absolutely sh!t the bed in the shootout. He got deked right out of his jock, not once, but twice.

In the shootout???! He's the reason they even went to O.T, second and third rags goals were totally on him

Phoenix over Atlanta in regulation

There's no way they sell off assets, Ian White or no Ian White, he's not a big deal either way. The only way they sell significant players is if they're in severe financial straits or Rutherford's as big a weenie as Brian Burke, who recently said something to the effect of it's not worth it to scratch and claw for the eighth seed.

Eh we needed the Rangers to keep spiraling and get back in this morass...otherwise either Buffalo or Carolina has to fall off and I'm not sure that'll happen (I'm assuming Atlanta won't do enough to get on their level at this point).
