How has no one mentioned how good Studenic looked for Slovakia? Had an assist and skated very well. Our prospect pool is so good that I really believe our club will be competitive for a long time.

I tried to rationalize it as "well let's see him try that against an NHL goalie" and then I realized it was Matt Murray in net haha. Yeah both kids are looking great for sure

Kakko just had a Hat trick. Hughes had some nice ALMOST-ASSISTS which count as much as pucks hitting the goal post. Scoring goals, to me, isn't constant as a player CAN go on a dry spell. Kyle Palmieri being the example. Making plays with the puck, setting up your teammates.....? That's the REAL VALUE in a player like Hughes over Kakko 'cause you never lose that ability.

None of this debate would be such a big deal if the Rangers weren't drafting second. Because they are, with Kaapo tearing up the worlds it makes me want to vomit. We can't stop them from getting somebody really good.

to be fully honest... if Hughes scored that EXACT same goal i'd be drooling and saying how fvcking amazing it was. But since it's Kakko i'm trying to convince myself that it's just okay and focus on the great pass lol

Hughes was the best American player, which didn’t take much to be because the US looked awful. Nonetheless, the kid was terrific.

These people are on drugs. As was mentioned earlier in this thread - I wouldn’t trade Hughes for their entire team and prospect pool. Hughes has a good chance to be the best player in the world someday. Can’t wait to watch today’s game.

Penalty shot gets you 2 points, if you shoot it though the uprights over the goalie from the blue line you get 1 point. EDIT: Also, I saw Boyle changed his twitter profile pick back to Devils swag. Let the speculation begin.

I'd be shocked if Zegras isn't gone my #10, apparently there's some legitimate talk he could be a target for the Hawks at 3rd. Kid reminds me a lot of Elias with how smart of a player and playmaker he is. 2nd Round I'm not getting married to a lot of players just yet because the late 1st/early 2nd range seems very in flux, but I really have my eye on Jamieson Rees after the U18 he had. Love me some Patrik Puistola as well, both of those guys are forwards though. I'm not a big fan of this year's defense crop, but at 34 you could talk me into Mikko Kokkonen or Anttoni Honka.

I know there's a lot of interest in trading up for Caufield, but if there's one guy I would look at trading up to the mid first round for, it would be Zegras. This kid makes so many sneaky plays, and has incredible vision. When I was watching some of those World Juniors games, I kept asking myself who #11 was because there were so many NHL quality plays he was making. Players like Turcotte, Cozens, and Dach seem to have passed him in many of the rankings. He'll be a steal, IMO. As far as the Devils' first pick in the second round (or maybe one of the other 2nd rounders), I think Lassi Thomson could be a good target if he's available. Seems like an all around defenseman with some serious offensive upside.

I would not have murdered Lou if Parise wanted out at all. I'd be mad at Parise instead. The way it happened i don't blame Parise at all actually, Lou paved him the way to leave and he took the opportunity. Why can't you guys understand it's NOT just about Parise. I'm against his way of handling UFAs. i had that problem with him long before Parise left. He did the same fvcking thing with all our top players and many left or could have left. That's how he did things and it was a horrible way to do it. It's not very hard to understand.

It's not just about Parise it's about how Lou sucked at handling UFAs. Parise is not the only one we lost because of it. And my "strategy" is Shero's strategy and simply a common sense strategy. (or basically any GM ouside of Lou's strategy for that matter...) And he never lost a top player for nothing and you should be glad he's the one handling our team now. When have you seen him "perpetually developing players for the rest of the league?" Are you SERIOUSLY saying you'd rather Shero wait one week before Hall hit free agency next summer before he start talking contract extension with him? Is that REALLY what you want?

The fact that he did let Elias walk and that he could have signed somewhere else is NOT a moot point at all. It shows how reckless his approach was. You're the one looking at these situation in hindsight and finding excuses for each of them. It's not hindsight at all, you simply don't let these type of player get in a position where they can simply walk on you, it's that simple. Others GMs don't let that happen either unless there's some sort of situation. Lou did it just cause that was his way. Remember that time Crosby and ovechkin walked cause well... the caps and pens were in the playoffs so they couldnt trade them at the deadline.... oh right no. Of course they never let that happen.

I'm going out on a limb and saying Shero takes Kakko with the first overall.
