If Fitz hires Green, I’m calling for his fvcking head. He better not fvcking dare.4 points

No way Torts get fired. That team was expected to do NOTHING this season. He did a hell of a job just to keep them in it this long.4 points

Timo - Nico - Bratt, has to be one of the best lines in the league right now. Just wish we had some better options to play with Jack.3 points

I don't blame ANYONE for feeling this way. Like I've said previously, Lucy can only Charlie Brown the football away from you so many times before you decide that maybe it's not even worth trying to kick anymore. The way I see it, anything less than four points these next two games, game over, no more continues.3 points

With a win tonight we would be 3 points out, don’t make our hill any steeper to climb lol.3 points

He has to realize—or at least I hope he realizes—that if he screws up the coaching hire, he won’t last the rest of his contract. If he wants to include Green on his list of candidates as a formality, fine, but he needs to ultimately hire someone else, preferably someone who is a motivator, has a defense-first mindset, and will hire assistants who know what they’re doing.3 points

Really can't ask for anything else - the three teams ahead of you all lost. Too bad the Isles won and leap is temporarily, but if any team had to win, we wanted it to be them. Devils need to bring their A game tomorrow, and with a win, things could get extremely interesting, being only 4 points out.3 points

I hope that this season has taught Fitz a lesson about the dangers of trying to get by with what you have as opposed to searching for better solutions when something clearly isn’t working.3 points

Watching Canadiens - Flyers…Canadiens are up 2-0 in the second and are playing the Flyers VERY tough so far. Torts looks PISSED. Canadiens about to go on the power play.3 points

Yeah, sure was great watching the Devils allow a game’s worth of shots in THE FIRST PERIOD against the Leafs. If Groan somehow gets the job I think I’m done with Fitz. That CANNOT fvcking happen.3 points

Yeah, no excuses tonight or Tuesday. We're coming off two days rest heading into tonight's game, and Tuesday we'll have three days off in between. Boys ned to empty the tank every single game from here until potentially the playoffs, and then obviously thereafter as well, if they happen to make it. Realistically, I think they can only "afford" to lose one, maybe two games the rest of the way, and they might even need to take one or both of them to OT. 9 games left leaves us with a max points possible of 94 if we won them all. Usually that's right around the cutoff. The most important thing, really, is winning the games against the Flyers and Isles. Lose those, and we're almost certainly done. One step at a time .2 points

The potential for those games to mean a ton is absolutely there, no doubt. BTW the Flyers finish up against the Devils and Caps, the Devils finish up against the Flyers and Islanders, the Caps finish up against the Bruins and Flyers, and the Islanders finish up against the Devils and Pens. So much can be on the line for ALL of those teams.2 points

FWIW, the Devils still have a game against the Flyers (Game 81)...hopefully it's both meaningful AND doesn't turn into a three-pointer. And the Flyers already just lost a "soft" game against the Canadiens. They also lost 5-2 to the Caps earlier this month. One thing I've definitely learned from trying to predict based on strength of schedule for MANY sports through the years is that it definitely doesn't always work out as expected. The Flyers are also just 11-14-4 over their last 29 games, and haven't won so much as two in a row over their last 20 (7-9-4). If there's a team that looks like it can absolutely spit the bit against what should be an "easier" part of the schedule, it's them. Doesn't help their cause that Ersson (who's handling much of their goaltending) has an .880 save% since 1/20 (24 GP). Of course, the question is can the Devils actually get THEIR sh!t together enough to be able to take advantage if the Flyers continue to be so meh? We find out starting tonight.2 points

I still think the Flyers will be difficult to catch, their remaining schedule is just SO soft: Blackhawks, Islanders, Sabres, Blue Jackets, Canadiens and Capitals in their 6 of their last 8 games.2 points

excatly what i was looking at earlier today ... considering that much teams still in it they probably can afford to loose one game and in best case two max. most realistically you have catch the metro teams2 points

3 points out with a big asterisk…Caps will have two games in hand again. They face the Bruins tomorrow night…hopefully that matchup goes as “expected.” If the Devils win tonight, they’ll be four points behind the Flyers with the same number of games played. Considering how this season has gone, that’s about as much as I ever could’ve hoped for.2 points

The Devils effectively are in the same position as the 1987-88 Devils were. As Sean Burke said (paraphrasing): "We were in it, but not REALLY in it. We had to win just about every game." Devils might be able to give up three points absolute max, if they want to make it in. Only realistic berths are Metro3 (Flyers) and WC2 (Caps). Quick math: if the Flyers go 4-4 over their final 8, Devils have to go 7-2 to tie them; due to more wins, the Devils win that tiebreaker. If the Caps go 5-5 over their final 10, the Devils have to go 7-1-1; same deal as the Flyers, all the Devils would have to do is tie them, and they would win the tiebreaker based on wins. Of course, the Red Wings and Isles are currently in better position, but too much time to go to make too much out of that. Basically, Devils need to go 7-1-1, maybe 7-2-0 at absolute worst.2 points

Devils really just gotta keep winning damned near every game. They got some help tonight but they still need so much more. Montreal beating the Flyers was a serious break for the Devils. Gotta taking fvcking advantage already.2 points

Caps lose. Flyers and Red Wings about to lose. Seriously Devils, how much more fvcking help do you WANT?! Flyers finally score but down two with 1:01 to go.2 points

Flyers about to lose ANOTHER goal, this time to offsides, heh heh. Canadiens challenge. And it’s waved off.2 points

The Devils are getting help besides the "Loser Point" Icelanders. They better not screw up tomorrow night.2 points

Make that 4-0. Damn…Flyers pull to within one. Nope, goal disallowed due to kicking motion. Torts losing his sh!t. Power play coming for the Flyers.2 points

They’ve really fallen apart…but as @nmigliore pointed out, lots of metrics pointed to this happening eventually.2 points

Agree. He didn't do anything unless he was fed the puck already in a shooting position. That doesn't work for a team that generates most of their O off the rush. Too many times seeing him being slow, missing passes in front of him, and generally being a liability trying to transition up ice.1 point

It's happened a few times in hockey, but it's not common practice for sure. I think it might happen if Toffoli doesn't get the kind of long-term offer that he was hoping for. At one point, I wasn't opposed to a couple of years, but now I'd just rather go in a different direction altogether. If Toffoli's not scoring 35+, he's not really helping, and even at 35+, that probably isn't enough to offset the rest of the time. It's not like he's not exactly moving the needle much for the Jets, and it doesn't feel like Devils have missed him.1 point
-
I probably like Toffoli more than most but I think if the Devils were bringing him back, they would've extended him. How often does a team trade a rental at the deadline and then resign him in July? I'd be surprised if BOTH Daws and Schmid are still in the org next season; both are RFAs and you need a spot for Poulter in Utica. I don't know much about Malek's profile as a prospect but he does have one of the best SV% in the top Finnish league this year.1 point
