NJCroMag
LURKING! I knew your manic posts weren't sustainable... So are you well rested and ready to amuse us for the season? Hey, PK! The only reason I left in the first place was that, out of the blue, this website suddenly came up on my company's BLOCKED list for the internet filtering software, so I was unable to come on during work hours. And since I'm rarely on the PC at home...well...there you have it. Puzzlingly, though, it appears this site is now off the BLOCKED list. Only found out a couple days ago. We'll see how long it lasts. But, no matter what happens, I am wearing pants. It's an irrefutable fact.
MantaRay
Well plus Pittsburgh. They're not really a mega market, but they have the league's highest rated player. The Penguins since Crosby typically have the highest US based local TV ratings in the NHL.

Devils Dose
The Penguins since Crosby typically have the highest US based local TV ratings in the NHL. And I would be surprised if they didn't have the highest "opponent ratings" (not that anyone is necessarily keeping track of this) of any team in the league. Again, I'm just saying that it's not because they have this amazingly large market of sports fans (like Chicago, Philly, and Boston). They have the league's number 1 attraction. I view that as a different reason, but an equally logical one for featuring the Penguins.
Risky
Let us hold out hope that they decide to play on a frozen lake and that it hits about 72 degrees on January 2nd in Philadelphia.

DeevFactor
Nice job for them to announce something that has been known for uhh... I don't know, forever or something? Anyone up for getting a bunch of Devils fans to "crash" the Winter Classic? I would imagine to be difficult, but worth a try anyway.

MDPucks
Pittsburgh also has a rediculous number of transplanted fans and Steelers fans that have jumped on the Penguins bandwagon. In terms of the teams playing its all about media markets and national assets. Outside of Buffalo (who was the only team willing to take the chance on the game the first year) every other game has featured O6, Pittsburgh, or Washington. The NBA does the same thing with the Christmas Day games which is always a combo of the Lakers/Celtics/LeBrons. Outside of Yankee Stadium there isn't an American icon of a venue that's feasable unless ice can be kept at Dodger Stadium. It would be a lot easier to spread the Winter Classic around if some American cold weather teams outside of Detroit and Chicago were good. Columbus (The Horseshoe), Colorado (Mile High or Folsom Field), and Minnesota (Target Field, UMinn Stadium) all stink and bring nothing in terms of a television audience. I'll watch the Winter Classic because its the event it is but frankly I'm more interested in the freak show that will be 24/7 considering the personalities and history between both teams. DevilNurn
Who am I kidding, I'll watch it and enjoy it. Just as long as the Devils make it in within the next 10 years.
Random Poster
The Rangers are also going to be on HBO's 24/7 like the Capitals were last year. Winter Classic, HBO, "New" MSG, NHL putting them overseas to start....they are back getting the attention again from the media and NHL. It's the most attention they've got at one time since they won the Cup and the media basically had them as the best thing to ever happen to the NHL in the US. Got to wonder if all this is going to wear on them, though. There's enough pressure of playing in NY that players have crumbled under without this. It kind of makes you a little nervous as a Devils fan, too. People don't like hearing this or refuse to belive it, but the Devils are dangerously close to going back to the days of being in their shadow. If the Rangers enjoy on/off ice success and the Devils fall back especially with the issues the Devils are facing on (possible loss of Brodeur and Parise) and off (financial issues) the ice, it's not going to be fun. That oughta be very fun to watch, especially if they're in a prolonged losing streak like Washington was last year. Just another reason to root for the Rangers to lose horribly.
