2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs thread

I'm exhausted and it's only Game 3. The Pens have slowed it down because that's the only way they can play. So, they'll continue to muck it up and make these games as ugly as can be. Rangers can play a lot better. I don't know why they sat back. They dominated for 2.5 periods. Then Vigneault goes Tom Renney and it gave the Pens life. Fleury has been superb. What's concerning is they should blow this team away. They have so much more skill top to bottom. But it is the playoffs and things are tight.

The other series are so much better to watch. There's actual hockey and hitting and it's nasty. Go Winnipeg and Calgary!

I agree with everything you just said. Thought maybe I was biased with the Devils blinders on but this has been the single handedly worst series of all 8 that are happening right now, it's absolutely brutal.

And on Twitter last night, Larry Brooks was whining about how "this clutch-and-grab is how the NHL wants hockey to be" or something like that. No, that's garbage. You'd think the President's Trophy Rangers would have gotten their feet out of the quicksand (Pittsburgh) by now. Pittsburgh are AWFUL! They're practically begging the Rangers to destroy them game in and game out, and the Rangers seem so damn incapable. How these Pens made it to the playoffs, I have no idea.

I really wish that those of us here in the Tri-State had the option of watching the national broadcast instead of this 3-hour long Ranger infomercial.

I was at a bar, so they turned the sound off during the highlights and postgame. But essentially, all MSG did was show Crosby's 3 or 4 little dirty plays, over and over again ad nauseum. It's straight up propaganda. The typical Rangers fan (not you Derek21/Matteau32) is going to leave that broadcast thinking the Rangers were hugely screwed over by the refs. I heard two guys arguing at the bar, the Rangers fan joking that the Penguins fan had the refs on their side!!! I couldn't believe it. I just walked away, I don't need to get involved with that.

The officiating in this series has been god awful. If I were Crosby, I'd play dirty too out of the frustration of the refs habitually missing calls on the Rangers. They're calling it as tight as they possibly can on the Penguins, as if it were a preseason game, and giving the Rangers a huge leash. And then, obviously frustration takes hold and Crosby/etc. play a little dirty, so MSG Networks naturally choose to put THOSE 3 or 4 plays on loop for an hour.

They're missing calls on very pivotal plays, and they're very obvious calls too. And then they're losing control of the game, no wonder Crosby's playing dirty.

I agree.  Sam always pumped the Rangers tires, but over the years it has gotten worse and is now relentless.  Every single little play is "a fantastic play!" and "outstanding effort!" according to Sam.  This includes minor crap like icing touchups and preventing an offside call.  It was really nice hearing Doc and whoever else it was calling game 2 and they gave both teams equal treatment.  I know Sam's employer is MSG but for God sakes he needs to tone it down a few notches.  It's unlistenable.

And don't even get me started on Homer Joe... These two dipsh!ts should just wear their Lundqvist jerseys during the games and get it over with. Edited by MadDog2020

It's probably the first few years he's really enjoyed his job, since like 18 years prior.

He's not the same anymore. Everything is magnified. Between him and Micheletti who I can't stand, everything's great. "What a save! Tremendous play! etc. They do this for both teams. They are a terrible pairing. Micheletti is best used as a sideline reporter. Sam worked with JD because he was great. Sam has been around a long time. I would replace him with Kenny Albert, who's much better. Albert and Maloney call it down the middle on the radio. They're a much better listen.

I agree, although Maloney is a bit of a homer himself.  I really like Kenny Albert.  I was hoping he would have been hired to do the Devils TV PBP after Doc left.

Thanks. The series is eerily similar to last year's 1st round vs Flyers. Philly was the worst skating team and had a bad D. Pittsburgh has two of the best in the world but their D is a mess. So, they're slowing it down. They're also playing chippy which you have to do to have a chance. All 6 of their goals on Lundqvist have come from within 15-20 feet. There have also been bumps and other antics. But it's expected. I hated Hank embellishing Crosby's elbow. And some of our fans whined about it. Kunitz bumping him should've been called. So should have Yandle on Lapierre prior to Kreider's goal.

The officiating is back to letting teams obstruct. They are letting a lot go. Brooks needs to retire. MSL does too. He can take Boyle with him.

The reason they're getting the majority of the power plays is because they're faster. The Pens aren't very disciplined. When the Rangers skate, they're going to draw penalties. Unfortunately, the power kill is unbearable. Crosby has always played this way. He gets away with a lot. They just have to take it and skate away. The Pens want to mix it up. Lapierre and Sutter have been their best players.

I thought Kunitz was pushed into Hank, no? The Crosby elbow on him was stupid though, Crosby sgould not have taken a risk of taking a penalty there.

Really hope MSL doesn't end up here he's been  dreadful more often than not this whole season. He in no way is part of the solution going forward. Boyle perhaps the only regular worse that MSL.

Alex Burrows apparently collapsed at Nucks practice today and was taken to the hospital in an ambulance.

Out for tonight's game, obviously.

haha "Power kill"

But yeah, it's really uncanny how much the Pens shoot themselves in the foot. High sticks galore, very obvious slashes, etc., a ton of calls where there's no grey area, they leave the refs no choice.. Like, c'mon have some control! Fundamental stuff, it's infuriating, I couldn't imagine being a Penguins fan watching this stuff...

Come to think of it, you're right. I forget which D pushed him. Probably Danny G. He was their best in that game. It's amazing how some of our fans kill Girardi. If it wasn't for him, they aren't where they are. He does all the grunt work. I swear some of our fans are blind.

Islanders don't have any killer instinct....they better win.

The preds hawks series is crazy fast. Two amazingly fast and skilled teams. Very entertaining.

I wouldn't necessarily say that. The Isles played a good game but just couldn't find a way to get another past Holtby. The Caps checked tightly. Backstrom took advantage of Tavares' broken stick.

The Game 4 Caps'/Isles recap with BONY 3 Stars and key stats.
