The Devils apparently skipped, too.

Good night everyone. Despite the debacle, I'll still be watching tomorrow. I just can't miss a devils-rangers game. 2 POINTS, DEVILS. 2 fvckING POINTS. WE, YOUR FANS EARNED IT.

They need to care about stopping goals.

They need to care about playing the game the right way.  It’s not about which individual scores the most goals, it’s about which team puts more goals in than the other.  I can’t stand it, watching players lose their sh!t because they didn’t get a goal with a two goal lead.  They can’t lose their sh!t when they miss an opportunity.  They can’t lose their sh!t when they give up a goal.  They can’t lose their sh!t because someone got checked hard.  If there is anything Green was right about, it is this team is immature.

It is immature, and while most of the immaturity may be attributed to the players themselves, some of it can be traced to how the team is coached.  When defensive lapses, careless passing, and lack of situational awareness aren’t punished or are punished only selectively, they become accepted.  The next coach needs to demand accountability from everyone on the roster, irrespective of his role, and the players who can’t play within the framework he imposes need to be shipped out.

I agree, much of the blame is coaching and player development.

As ugly as this season is shaping up towards the end, at least it smells a little bit better in here

Credit to much of the board, who rarely allowed themselves to get baited.  There were absolutely times in past years where I would've gotten sucked in, as I'm sure others would have as well, and things would devolved into a heated multi-page back and forth.  But once you consider the, well, source, it becomes a lot easier to just not engage, and most of the board made the smart choice not to.

Sooooo for all of that talk about "Pay attention to MEEEEEE AHHHHHHH it's all gOaLtEnDiNg see see see told ya I was right you're all WROOOOOOOOOOOOONG you were all so meeeeeeeean!", so far Allen and Kahkonen have combined for a .915 save%.  Their combined record?  5-6-0, and with a roster that's now as healthy as we could have expected it be to boot.  So turns out that yeah, while goaltending has indeed been an issue at various times this season, and VV was absolutely disappointing given his prior track record, the lack of consistent puckstopping wound up being one of MANY issues this season, along with borderline non-existent coaching, a comically passive GM, much less good fortune with injuries, some kids taking their lumps, and the whole MM mess (the Devils' record without him in the lineup suggests that his on-ice contributions have been missed)...it's been an all-around sh!tshow, and I think that was the point that many on here were quite correctly making.

Seriously, at this point, might as well give him seven more games in the Top 6, let him take his lumps, and see where it goes.  But yeah, the whole “selective accountability” thing is really getting old.

Brendan smith skates around like a jackass, lays out for no reason to “block” shots, takes horrendous penalties, but hey they love his compete and “intangibles.”

I hate this coaching staff so damn much.

cannot wait for the pain to be over

Joke coaching staff?   I'm not getting this Holtz love with Devil fans.  That's Novo's 1st question. "why did you bench him"? Maybe cause he doesn't do anything.  I can't wait til he's finally traded.

I'm not super sold on Holtz either but this coaching staff definitely sucks.

It's not Holtz "love"...it's more that the staff continually overlooks gaffes by zilches like Smith, but sure appears to have a different set of rules for Holtz.

Like I said, the season is toast...pretty much blackened, burnt toast at this point.  Has Holtz been great so far, in the Top 6 role that he's been given as of late?  No, not really.  But maybe let him take some lumps?  He still has a ways to go, but he did make some progress this season...what's the harm in giving him seven games where the Devils just deal with some rough moments, but at least the kid isn't constantly worrying that it's right back to the fourth line and minimal minutes if he makes a mistake?

I'm all for accountability, but it's the way first Lindy and now Groan dish it out...no rhyme or reason, and for some reason, Holtz more than any one player seems to be the whipping boy.  Unless it turns out that he's either not working hard enough in practice or not listening at all, I don't understand why he's the target.  If he's THAT difficult to deal with, then why is he NEVER scratched?  It's a very odd situation, and one I suspect is heavily exacerbated by the idiots behind the bench.

I was mad in November.  Now, I’m just resigned to the fact that this team sucks.  Fitz has a lot of work to do to fix this.

Yeah, last night I said, “Of course they folded like a lawn chair.”

I saw it as a big problem. Selective accountability is poisonous. Players cannot be comfortable in such an atmosphere, including the ones who seemingly escape criticism. The Fitz press conference where he said Holtz hasn’t had a good season still bugs me. We obviously don’t know everything because we are fans, but it looked horrible. There’s a perception that Luke Hughes escapes criticism because he’s Jack’s brother, and that’s not good at all.

Devils with Brendan Smith on the ice last night (5v5):

Shot attempts: 8-21

Scoring chances: 2-11

Goals: 0-1

It's amazing how Holtz continues to be the whipping boy yet Smith skates by like the golden child despite terrible play. He brings down anyone he plays with... we saw it with Nemec and now here we go again with Luke.

Seriously, Lindy and Travis have to be two of the dumbest coaches that I've ever seen put in charge of an NHL team.  The only way Lindy was ever getting another head coaching gig was if Fitz gave him a call...and the only way that Travis was ever getting another HC gig was if Fitz gave him a chance to slide in for Lindy after Lindy got canned.  Seriously, holy fvcking clusterfvck...
