Game Notes - Game Stats

The Devils enter tonight's game following a 2-1 win Wednesday night at Pittsburgh. Yesterday's decision gave the club a 2-0-0 mark in first games when playing on consecutive dates. The team enters tonight's contest 0-1-0 in second games of back-to-back situations. Overall, New Jersey will play 16 sets of back-to-back games this season.

For the Devils, tonight's game is its second vs. the Western Conference, while last night's contest closed out a stretch of three straight vs. the Atlantic Division. The club began the three-game stretch with a 3-2 win Saturday night vs. Philadelphia. Saturday's decision gave the team a 2-0-0 mark at the Meadowlands, while extending its regular-season winning streak on home ice to seven games (last loss, Mar. 26 vs. Tor., 4-3). Last night's victory gave New Jersey a 2-2-0 mark on the road.

Lifetime Series

Tonight's game between the Devils and Predators marks the only meeting between the two teams this season, and the only game to be played here at the Continental Airlines Arena.

New Jersey won the season's series 1-0-0 in 2005-06, following a 4-3 shootout win January 19, outshooting Nashville 34-32. Jamie Langenbrunner led the Devils with 1g-1a-2pts, while three different players scored goals for the Predators. Martin Brodeur picked up the win for New Jersey, while Tomas Vokoun was in goal for Nashville.

The Devils lead the all-time series 7-4-0, but the Predators are 3-2-0 in the previous five games played here.

Devils - Predators Connections

Lowell Devils' D Tomas Harant was Nashville's eighth choice, 173rd overall in the 2000 Entry Draft. He never skated for the Predators and was signed as a free agent by the Devils on July 17, 2006.

Lowell C Chris Minard skated in one game for the Milwaukee Admirals during the 2004-05 season. Milwaukee served as the American Hockey League Affiliate of the Predators that season.

Nashville C Jason Arnott came to New Jersey from Edmonton via trade in the middle of the 1997-98 season. He played in 302 games for the Devils, tallying 97 goals and 124 assists for 221 points as well as adding 18 goals and 23 assists in 58 games of playoff action. He also won the Stanley Cup with the Devils in 2000. RW Steve Sullivan was New Jersey's tenth choice, 233rd overall, in the 1994 Entry Draft. He played 49 games with the Devils from 1995-96 through 1996-97, totaling 31 points on 13 goals and 18 assists.

G Chris Mason was New Jersey's seventh choice, 122nd overall in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. He did not see any action in the Devils' organization.

Predators' radio broadcaster Jim McKenzie played from 2000-01 through 2002-03 in New Jersey and was a member of the Devils' 2003 Stanley Cup Championship team. He skated in 196 games, scoring nine goals and 15 assists while racking up 330 PIM.

New Jersey Devils Injuries and Transactions

Defenseman Brad Lukowich (bruised foot, suffered Oct. 14 vs. Phi., 2 gms missed) is out on a day-to-day basis. Defenseman David Hale (eye, 6 gms missed) underwent successful surgery, and is out with a long-term injury. Defenseman Richard Matvichuk (back), right wing Alexander Mogilny (hip) and left wing Jason Wiemer (knee) are also all out with long-term injuries.

Total man-games lost to injury/illness: 8.

On Monday, the Devils recalled defenseman Alex Brooks from Lowell (AHL) under emergency conditions.

On October 12, the Devils announced that defenseman Scott Lachance will work out with Lowell, while right wing Nathan Perrott was released.

Alex Brooks makes NHL debut

On Monday, the Devils recalled defenseman Alex Brooks from Lowell (AHL) under emergency conditions. He made his NHL debut that night at the NY Rangers. At 30 years, 56 days old, Brooks became the fourth-oldest player in New Jersey history to make his NHL debut. He follows Viacheslav Fetisov, Oct. 5, 1989 (31 years & 168 days), Sergei Starikov, Oct. 5, 1989 (30 years & 305 days) and Alexei Kasatonov, Jan. 4, 1990 (30 years & 82 days). Brooks is in his fifth year with the organization, after signing as a free agent July 12, 2002.

A Brush of Hope

Nearly 100 Canadian celebrities, including former Devils defenseman Scott Stevens, are participating in A Brush of Hope, to help raise money for Canadians with kidney disease. Each participating celebrity will create a painting which will be auctioned over Ebay between November 2-12, 2006. The paintings will be on display October 11-13 and November 10 in Stevens hometown of Kitchener, Ont. Kidney disease is a life-threatening condition that affects almost two million Canadians. Since 1964, more than $73 million in research has been raised by the foundation that provides people with kidney disease access to better therapies and expanded treatment options. The Kidney Foundation of Canada is the national volunteer organization committed to reducing the burden of kidney disease through funding and stimulating innovative research; providing education and support; promoting access to high quality healthcare; and increasing public awareness and commitment to advancing kidney health and organ donation. 5-2 will be so great for devils!

:saddevil: We were getting spoiled. Tampa/Philly is on TSN so I'll just watch that....go 'Ning!

Even though it's not on I've been spoiled just by watching I think it was 5 games already this year considering Versus/NBC are only showing 8 all year I can miss a few games here and there. But it's definately a good problem to have.

Fantastic, not even a minute into the game and White takes a dumb penalty, then the Preds score on the powerplay.

Wow, we scored a powerplay goal! They are using that crowd chant thing for the goal song. Maybe they're going to try them all out before they pick one, or maybe this one won the poll.
