Triumph
I'm gonna say this about Greene now - "I cannot have him here - he jeopardizes the whole operation." btw I don't think moving him for a pick makes much sense, not when Mottau, Rachunek, and Salvador are all UFA this off-season. Sickman
The other factor: That ice was awful. The puck was bouncing all over the place, people were falling down and slipping resulting in phantom tripping calls. It was an ugly game all around and the Canes had more energy at the end to fight for the game. Take the loss in stride, it was a wild one, and try to figure out who to sit for the playoffs. Chimaira_Devil_#9
I still really hold some hope for Greene, i still think he has upsides which can be developed, but i think his biggest downside will lead to him not staying with the team, and that is his size and physicallity. In the NHL these days you need the frame to play defense or unbelivable speed, Greene dosnt have either, there are a lot of aspects of his game i really like, but he seems to be a streotypical collage defenceman. I think he is this teams next David Hale, so much potential yet so little return. Im actually starting to like the idea of this Salvador trade, from my snooping on blues websites it seems like this guy is a reasonable skater with some good mobillity who plays the defensive side of the game really well and with great responsibillity, which is something this team could really do with: Martin-Oduya White-Mottau Salvador-whoever sucks the least

sundstrom
I missed Sutter's post game conference. What did he exactly say regarding Greene? Does it really seem like he is Lowell bound?
Triumph
It was funny the first time he used that line with Oduya earlier in the season, now it seems scripted Maybe he will somehow clear waivers and go down to Lowell, it'd be the best thing for all involved. Otherwise he'll probably be locked in a closet for weeks if not longer or someone else'll claim him and he'll be gone entirely. btw what did Chico say? He's not critical of anyone except Ray Emery. SatansDevils
Hey - that's why I said 'now'. Greene won't clear waivers. Regardless, I think he's clearly the ninth defenseman now and that's fine - a rotation of eight is just fine. When he wants to get better and realize that having a one-way contract isn't a guarantee to being an NHL defenseman - it'll happen. Right now he's more useless than tits on a bull. Eh. The Devils don't need a wholesale defensive overhaul. Sometimes it's best to go with what you've got rather than make 'upgrades'. I'd like to see this next season: Oduya-Martin X-White Vishnevski-Mottau where X is Roszival, Stuart, Redden, etc. I think there's like no chance Rachunek comes back, and Salvador is likely to head back to St. Louis - and there's just not much out there in UFA. devilsrule33
Tri, are you aware how bad Wade Redden has been this season? He is going to be 31 soon and his decline over the last two seasons has been amazing.
Don
the devils have scored like 40 goals in the last 10 games or something ridiculous like that. their scoring is fine. the defense couldn't transition the puck and the forwards couldn't draw penalties.anyway the devils lost so it's not surprising you are posting in the game thread. Triumph
B) INCONSISTENT. Do you need a dictionary? Eleven of those 31 where in 2 games, leaving only 20 in 8 other games. Edited February 27, 2008 by Triumph
Triumph
1) i think we're beating Casino into the ground. I didn't notice it making the rounds on cable that its your go-to movie for today. curious what got it stuck in your consciousness.2) the only UFA i want there is Campbell. Otherwise its a waste. I also hate that 3rd pairing - just too slow for my tastes. salei was a guy i had in mind there but alas it wasn't to be.
njdevil26
I think its kind of funny and ironic because it seems like the team was playing great and looked like a team that didn't need much tweaking at the deadline. Most of us were upset thinking Lou didn't do enough at the deadline... and now they play like ass and lose.
adavid
Well the canes are an offensive force. Their poor record is more indicative of shoddy dplay and an inconsistant Cam Ward. The 3rd period we had no transition game so we couldn't take advantage of those weaknesses, but yeah they outplayed us on both ends to be honest. Marty was the reason we got a point. Our D looked terrible. Physically weak, and poor at making decisions. They seemed shellshocked all game except for Martin. I had flashbacks to round 2 2006 and round 2 2005. Lets see what Salvador brings. The other factor: That ice was awful. The puck was bouncing all over the place, people were falling down and slipping resulting in phantom tripping calls. msweet
The worst part was having to sit in the stands (108 for those of you counting), with the dumbass Canes fanes who booed and whined everytime a Cane got touched or slipped and ignored the game until the last 3 minutes. I had a sense the Devs were going to lose, they just didnt seem right. I was watching Marty during the TV timeouts and he was hunched over a lot catching his breathe starting in the 2nd period. I felt the same way...and interesting observation about Marty. And the problem tonight was the coaches decision to play Brookbank-Greene when they know full well Rachunek-VV is better... just to teach the latter 2 a lesson. Devil Fan
Yeah, this team's scoring weaknesses resurface after the deadline and maybe Lou is regretting that he allows the Pittsburgh gets Hossa.
sundstrom
campbell is way overrated around here - he is going to get a windfall. i don't see that lou underrated kind of guy - I might've thought it was Paul Mara, but under closer inspection, he sucks. I think nhlnumbers is still recovering from today's onslaught so I can't check other players of interest.

Masked Fan
Those Heripanes were really working hard tonight. A LOT of hussle out there. The Devs didn't cycle for crap and the Panes were everywhere. Another stellar performance from Brody got us a point though. Damn I friggin hate the panes!!!
