  1. Brian Boyle has scored for the Penguins tonight. Nice story, glad he is back in the league.

  2. HF boards has this thread so might as well do one here. All tickets, season tickets, and arena discussions including covid related polices for the arena can go in here. The people who aren't interested in this discussion won't have to whine about it anymore. New policy announcement today is a farce. I can confirm no wrist bands are being handed out so people can just wear a mask in and then take it off once inside. If you're a season ticket holder who isn't happy with this policy call your rep. New options have been announced and you can roll over your money to next year for the entire season and keep your seats or you can even take it month by month.

  3. Yet all but 4 out of the 700+ NHL players have decided to follow the guidelines to prevent those restrictions. Blackwood isn't ignorant of those restrictions. These didn't sneak up on him as they have been out for months now. He knows he cannot play in those games. He knows he is creating an issue for the team and his teammates. He know that he is under increased scrutiny. I am not going to pat him on the back for having his own opinion (which he is entitled to) and I sure as hell not going to do the same for creating this distraction for the team. Again, if the Devils are wanting to make the playoffs or at least be in the mix, they need to get as many points as they can with all hands on deck. Having your starting goaltender not available for a possible 18 points is throwing a massive wrench into those plans and everyone has the right to criticize him for that.

  6. I used to see them a lot at restaurants in NYC, but over the past 5-6 years the number of those places have declined. I can't remember the last time I got charged extra in NYC at a restaurant for using a card or going to one that doesn't accept cards at all.

  7. A thread for this stuff was a good idea. People who want to discuss it can and the people who don’t can just stay away from it.

  8. Or if they could at least create and dedicate a specific thread to this fvcking season ticket holders whine fest about policies. I come in this thread to hear about hockey, not this constant sh!t. I come here to escape this fvcking sh!t that's been everywhere for over a year now.

  13. One place in the city I used to go to was cash only for the longest time. They had an ATM on-site if needed, but the fees on that were crazy. Eventually, they got themselves in dire straits when their landlord raised their rent significantly one year with little notice. In a desperate move they started accepting CC but it was too little too late and thy closed for good about 5-6 years ago. Frankly I think the landlord wanted them out as they were in that space for some time and over that period the space became way too valuable. I think it is some retail chain now.

  14. Well, there you go. Easy enough. Though truth be told, this is the first time I've heard the term "reverse ATM" used. So... you put in cash, and it spits out a temporary debit card or something? Interesting
    1 point
  15. They also have reverse atms now so it's not like they aren't accepting cash at all, just making it an extra step for those people who want to use it. "For guests needing to convert cash to a card, Reverse ATMs are available with no fees by sections 1, 14, 125 and inside the Box Office Lobby."

  16. Oh man, don't get me started on churning those credit card bonuses. Pre-COVID, the sign-up bonuses paid for at least one vacation a year. Best I ever saw was Chase offering like $1500 to open a CSR. If you have a great credit score (750+), use that weapon to your advantage.

  17. Give me your social security number and I’ll double check that. Staten Island is, in this respect and many others, it’s own universe.
    1 point
  18. This is exactly right, as long as the place involved doesn’t surcharge credit card purchases. I really don’t care if the vendor gets whacked, and the vendor shouldn’t either. It’s part of the process of accepting credit cards, which of course increases their business revenue.

  19. Yeah I recently had enough cash back on my CC to pay for more than half of my latest car insurance premium bill. I always pay on-time in full since I was 18 years old and now have a credit score of over 800.
    1 point
  20. If you thought that "cash back" was coming from credit card company generosity, I am sorry your bubble has broken. The vendor accepting the card is getting whacked for that cash back. So vendors price accordingly. The Federal Reserve is the only entity that creates cash, legallly. One way to think about it is that your vendor is kicking you back the 2% to get or keep your business, not the CC company. Gasoline retailers, who work on miniscule margins, have charged more for cc sales for decades; now that is trickling down to other businesses.

  21. It started before Covid, but became more widespread now. Fair to say that most places around here are now applying the surcharge rather than not.

  22. This a new thing cause of covid? I've never been big on going out to eat so have no idea. Same thing goes with the arena, I've always eaten before I go or I'll just eat when I get home because the prices are just absurd. I've been including the fan friendly concession stand options that Atlanta and a ton of other teams do now in every survey the Devils send but they somehow think their idea is better. I personally won't spend a dime on concessions until it's adopted. The Atlanta research proves that more people come inside earlier, spend more on concessions and then since they have money left over spend even more on merchandise because they don't feel like they are being taken advantage of. Give it a read... https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2019/03/06/were-evangelists-this-why-atlanta-falcons-are-selling-hot-dogs/ "But AMB is still making money, even though the profit margin on concessions is much slimmer. Sales volume increased by 50 percent after the price cuts, Beadles said. Ten percent of fans arrived an hour or earlier before kickoff of Falcons games, which led to a jump in pregame food sales and merchandise sales."

  23. A lot of restaurants around here are now surcharging any credit card purchases, which is 3.9% so it kills my 2% cash back. So I just stick with cash. If I don’t have cash on me, then I charge and deal with the fee.

  27. Because this is just ridiculous at this point, come on here to read about the devils and upcoming hockey season and it’s pages of vaccine discussion in the season thread. Maybe this forum doesn’t have enough moderators anymore.
    1 point
  28. Another thread hijacked by the vaccine or else crowd. I don’t see what the big deal is, honestly. If you’re not comfortable going to games then don’t go, sit home in fear and watch as time passes you by. Want the vaccine? Great, go get it. Don’t want it? Don’t get it. If the vaccine is the end all be all go get it and you shouldn’t have to worry about the unvaccinated so much. Have the vaccine still scared? Here’s an idea then you walk around prudential center wearing a mask all night. Some people are just getting to be a bit much with this. Stay home if you’re scared. It’s that simple. More tickets for the rest of us.

  29. Vaccine proof only or vaccine proof & negative tests. I can confirm they are not giving out wrist bands so under this current policy you can literally wear a mask in and simply take it off which is why it's an absolutely do nothing policy.
    1 point
  30. Arbitrary and non-sensical. For starters, proof of recovery from covid or a negative covid test should be as valid as the vaccine card. That being said, everyone should be required to wear the mask anyway. Breakthrough cases aren't rare and it's well documented that vaccinated individuals can catch and transmit covid. This is why negative test is the only way to enter the US through air. Realistic policy: If you're vaccinated, recently recovered or testing negative, come to the arena and wear a mask. If you're not in that cohort stay home.

  31. Okay…. We wanted a policy. They announced one. They are requiring proof of vaccination or a mask. What else were they supposed to do? Require a picture of the needle going in your arm?
    1 point
  32. According to an email, Devils have updated their policy. You either have to show proof of vaccination at the door or have to wear a mask at all times. Not quite ideal, but going in the right direction.

  34. I know it feels like a few years back but that was installed in 2014 already. They did do some cool things with it originally but they either fired the people who know how to really use it properly or it simply can't do Vegas level stuff cause of the model they bought, I have no clue. For the price and what we have seen from it the past few seasons I agree though.

  35. What's amazing is that our owners installed an equally sophisticated on-ice projection system a few years back for over a million dollars and all they do with it is show generic videos of past Devils goals/moments in every single opener. That was definitely money well-spent. As for ESPN+, I didn't stay up to watch the Kraken game, but the quality was all over the place for the Lightning game stream. The commercials came in very clear, so it seems like they have a few bugs to work out on the live streaming portion.

  36. Agreed. The hockey gods did not like it one bit the last time… As for ESPN+, that’s disappointing to hear it’s already having issues. I decided to just keep center ice since I like to DVR the games. Kind of pricey just to have that luxury, but for me it’s worth it since I’m never ready to start the games on time, and I’m out on weekends a lot. I still plan to sign up for the bundle (might as well since I already had Disney +), but I’m glad I won’t have to rely solely on the streaming app for hockey.

  37. Or maybe the 3 Cup winning coaches? I’m sure there are some Pat Burns signed pucks floating around out there.

  41. Right. Did he intend to take him out of the play? Yes. Did he plan to make him fall awkwardly so he got hurt? No. Did he do something that comes with that risk? Obviously so.

  45. Since we are on the subject of jerseys, I wanted to mention I purchased over the weekend a Jack Hughes photomatched game worn jersey. Should receive it later this week.

  46. Good news on the puck front, I went on Facebook and found not one but two Shulmistra pucks that collectors had and were willing to sell. I bought the better looking of the two. I will be down to three when that arrives.
