How funny would it be if this mediocre Devils team eliminates the Rangers again? I may never stop laughing.

At this point the team to focus on is the Flyers. The Devils are 6 points back of them but with the same number of games played. Caps up 5 but have two games in hand.

This officiating is laughable. Talk about home cooking.

Since the start of 2022-23: Goalie A: .900 save%, -12.1 GSAA, .505 QS% Goalie B: .903 save%, -3.1 GSAA, .571 QS% Goalie A is Markstrom Goalie B is Vanecek Sorry Fitz, if you wind up with Markstrom AND you have to give up key assets to do it, I’ll consider it a “throw it against the wall and hope it sticks” failure. The fact is based on the balance of the last two seasons, you have no idea what Markstrom’s gonna provide, and that’s a serious problem. He basically had one nice extended streak (22 games, .926 save% from early December to early March this season), but has been plenty meh the rest of the time over the last two years. He’s not a solution, he's a giant fvcking question mark. Question Markstrom indeed.

I think best case is they manage to miss by 1 or 2 wins and we sit here pointing at the likely 10+ opportunities they thew away.

I'm more concerned about the games that the devils should be winning. With how they've played against "lesser" teams this season, I'd almost rather play the playoff bound teams at this point.

Funny store with this one... as I live on Central time, games typically start "early" for me (6pm, 6:30pm) so I'm normally having to watch on delay after the kiddo goes to bed. I started watching this one on delay pretty late via Hulu instead of the ESPN+ app but at some point midway thru the 2nd period my feed kept reverting back to the beginning of the period when I tried to skip thru a commercial break (and I couldn't skip forward to where I originally was). Ugh. By then, the actual game had been over so I figured I'd just switch over to the ESPN+ app and watch the actual replay from where I left off... but unfortunately the only replay feed available at the time was the Spanish broadcast. It was getting late so I'm like fvck it, we'll just go with that. Even though I could only comprehend about 20% of the commentary (probably less), it was fun as heck. I like Steve Levy but I'm 100% listening to the Spanish broadcast next time we get a Sean McDonough game.

Nico, Timo, and Bratt all at the top of the card. That line was just clicking tonight. Timo's goal was awesome. Nico winning a battle and getting the puck to Bratt. Bratt with the patience to allow a scoring chance to develop. Timo finding the soft spot in front. Exactly what you want from that line.

That’s why they play the games.

I’m glad the Devils won this one while the Leafs were missing Marner and Reilly. I’m not optimistic about what might happen when they go back to Toronto in April, but first thing’s first: they need to be sure that game actually matters.

They won two in a row. They didn't look particularly good doing out...outshot 81-55 combined in the two games. I know insane goaltending has helped, but FWIW, as far as bright spots go, the Devils have suddenly killed 42 out of their last 46 penalties. They've moved into the Top 10 to boot...go figure.

Think about how much better these numbers could be if Bratt wasn’t in such a shooting funk. But yeah basically these guys are going to have to keep putting up a lot of points. The players are really on their own.

A fantastic, hard working line. Perfect mix of finesse and strength out there in the offensive zone. Makes one wonder why they weren't given a chance to do this with regularity earlier in the season...

I think Tocchet and Torts are probably locks. If WPG keeps stumbling down the stretch Brunette might be able to steal that final spot from Bowness.

Flyers just refuse to go away. Torts won’t allow it. I like Washington’s chances of folding down the stretch better.
