I fudged with the logo a bit. I'm very mediocre at this stuff, but you'll get the idea.

I'd drop the name to Vegas Knights and adjust the logo to make the sides of the shield resemble hockey sticks.

I dig the V in the logo and still think it works with my tweak.

Who do I send this to to get PAID!$! Ha!

Looks worse.

terrible name and the logo is decent but i agree whoever said it could use brighter colors. the whole thing would be cool to a 12 year old minecraft player or a high school team and i bet they make changes within 8 years.

I'm trying to figure out how the name/logo in any way relates to Las Vegas. I guess ppl are saying the owner went to army and that is why? Just seems really odd.

I guess you could argue that eventually they'll build an identity to put behind the name and it won't seem as cringe-y after awhile- for instance I'm sure anaheim's name got a mixed response at first, but even the novelty  of the name "ducks" makes it appealing, a "knight" is just overdone and seems overly trying to appeal to masses/lowest common denominator.

I think this is a bit of an exaggeration.  Obviously they couldn't go with any gambling references, so their choices were pretty limited to begin with.  I do not know any team in the 4 major leagues in North America to be named the Knights or have that word on there, so there was space to choose that name.  I think Silver Knights would have been a better fit as Nevada is known as the Silver State, but it is still better than Desert Knights.

They will definitely build a brand around it and I think it will work.  The Devils are named after the mythical creature in the pine barrens that looks more like a screwed up flying-goat beast yet since day 1 our logo has depicted more of the Satanic/Inferno/Biblical version of the Devil.  You can really shape it to how you want it to be and I expect Vegas to do the same.

I guess my gripe is that you have free reign to create any name you want and you go with Knight. It just seems too safe, I'd prefer something more ambitious or unique. There is nothing that gets me excited about the name because its used for teams all the time (if not pro, then HS, college/amateur.) I can certainly see why some people would like it or at least be OK with it.

Anyone here who was around in 82 for the Devils rebranding? I know media wasn't around then like it is now but was just wondering if anyone has any recollection of the reaction to the Devils' name and logo.

I have seen many teams with Devils as their name.  Same thing with Warriors, Indians, Eagles, Falcons, Hawks, Tigers, Lions, etc.  There really is a finite amount of names you can do with and with hundreds of professional teams and thousands of scholastic teams, you are eventually going to copy someone unless it is completely out of left field.

Plus with the fact that they were and probably had to avoid any mentioning of gambling which is a good chunk of Vegas identity, their choices were a little limited.  They did have an ECHL team called the Wranglers which was alright, but if the NHL Vegas team chose that I can imagine they would get an equal reaction to that as they did with the one they picked.

Lmfao someone called them the Las Vegas Magnetos haha

I agree with the comments that I've seen that it looks more like a Spartan helmet then a knight.

I couldn't care less what they were called, not my team, not my problem. I'm just happy that I can finally get out to Vegas and see a Devils game at the same time. It's gonna be awesome.

Its pretty cool that the arena is on the strip.    If I'm in Vegas next season, I'll definitely try to check out a game.

Devils is unique because it has significance with New Jersey, All the other names you listed I think are boring and I would be equally critical of if a pro team chose any of those today.

I saw plenty of creative names that I would personally prefer, including Aces, which you could say is Air Force related- and Nevada is a big Air Force state. Plus its completely ridiculous to put a team in Vegas then be so afraid of any name that remotely resembles gambling.

In the end it's no big deal, as Satan's Hockey said I really don't care what their called since it's not my team, but I think the name is boring.

Las Vegas Aces is a brutal name; it's hard to say.  Also I think part of the Vegas's team's branding is that there's a whole lot of stuff in Las Vegas that doesn't involve gambling and a whole lot of people who live and work in Las Vegas who don't go to the casinos very often and they're trying to appeal to those people - this is non-casino related entertainment.

Yea and they appealed to absolutely no Las Vegas/Nevada culture at all with this name. Again, how and why did the NHL think it was appropriate to allow a new franchise to name themselves after another sports program? It's so incredibly bush league that I'm still shocked it happened. This is just Foley's pet project, and the NHL doesn't care because they wanted to plant their flag on Vegas.

If Foley hadn't mentioned his affiliation with Army, there's absolutely no way that anyone would've connected Golden Knights with anything else.  The good news is that no one cares.

If I bought a team and named them the Owls, no one would've connected it with anything else had they not known where I went to school either. The fact is it's entirely named for A., something that the owner is connected to, B., after another sports program, and C., after nothing at all having to do with the culture of the place they're playing, and after all the propaganda about this team fully embracing Vegas and the Nevada identity. From top to bottom, this is congruent with the professionalism of minor league sports. And I thought the empty seats and comp tickets from Caesar's was going to be the most embarrassing part of this project.

Alright, I'll bite.

The NY Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins and the Philadelphia Flyers.  Those are teams that were named either because of either the owner, what the arena they played in resembled or out of thin air and the owner liking the name.  None of those teams are named because of some connection to the city.

There are no teams in the top 4 major leagues in North America that I am aware of.  However, there are Jets in the NHL and NFL, Panthers in NHL and NFL, Kings in the NHL and NBA, Giants in MLB and NFL, Cardinals in MLB and NFL,  and Rangers in MLB and NHL.  Again there is only a finite amount of names the teams can choose unless it is completely out of left field.  Even then there are enough Major League, Minor League, College and High School teams in the United States where even team names out of left field are already done.  Hell there is the Albuquerque Isotopes minor league baseball team that was named after the Simpsons.

This is another case of selective outrage and no matter what name they chose some people were going to be upset for whatever reason.  This is outrage for the sake of being outraged.  I remember the Blue Jackets getting the same type of crap when their name was revealed for the same silly reasons.

I'm from Ohio, and I have no problem with that name. It has historical significance, as Ohio fielded more of its population during the Civil War than any other northern state. They also made the majority of Union uniform coats (hence Blue Jackets) in Columbus. Maybe it's just cause I'm into history, but I think it was a cool choice. The canon they fire off when they score a goal is pretty cool too (although I hate hearing it when they play the Devils) and their 3rd jersey with the canon on it is one of the best in the league, imo.

I remember at the time people didn't like it because it was 2 names, people confused it as a sort of play on Yellow Jackets (which they kind of embraced with their early logos), the association with Columbus was weak, etc.

And our team shares its name with no fewer than 3 D-1 college teams and Manchester United....

Good name and logo.

Weak hockey market. When this team settles in it will just be another thing to do in Vegas and get lost in the shuffle. There was never much demand and outcry for a team here as is in Seattle and QC, where this expansion franchise should have been.

Vegas will not succeed

From what I have been reading is that Seattle is not super keen on getting an NHL franchise.  Instead, what they really want is an NBA team to replace what was gone when the SuperSonics left.  However, the NBA is reluctant to grant them another franchise unless they share the arena with an NHL team which is where having an NHL team comes in.  If that is true, not sure how healthy a franchise would be there if their reason for existence was just to use as a bargaining chip to get another league back into the city.

The Rangers were named after a headline from a news paper, the Penguins were named because the Civic Center was already called the Igloo, and yes, the Flyers was out of thin air (very much in the 60's/70's modernist aesthetic).

I do not care that the name is used by another team. What is a horrible reflection on the NHL is the fact that this owner overtly named the team after another sports program he had a connection with. Yea, the first Jets owner named his team after the New York Jets. I would've had the same reaction to something that ridiculous, but to illustrate my point, you're comparing something that happened in 2016 in a multi billion dollar industry to the naming of a team in a bullsh!t league half a century ago that lasted what, a decade? This whole Vegas debacle has been bush league from day one, and this really takes it.

Tell me how you excuse not making the slightest effort to incorporate local culture into the branding of the team.

I don't care what we share our name with. There couldn't be a more intimate name than Devils for a team that plays in New Jersey. Is there some lore about the crusades stopping off in Nevada I'm unfamiliar with?
