Also with the Panthers loss our number is down to 4.

If the Pens lose tonight, it’s 2. Let’s go Avs, in regulation, of course.

Pens are in Dallas tomorrow night too so it looks like if they lose in regulation in Colorado tonight and in regulation in Dallas tomorrow then we can clinch before even playing on Friday

Thanks for nothing Colorado

Only a matter of time anyway.

That game isn’t over yet, but this year’s Penguins are truly the “Ya never really know what you’re gonna get” team of the NHL.  They are so all over the place.

Pens get it back.  4-2 Pens.

And that’s that.

Magic number is still 4, thanks to that win and Florida having the possibility to win out and still have more ROWs than us if we lose out.

Just win Friday!

I know this topic has been talked about a bunch already but this one is a little different cause Chicago is passing the buck to Russia even though Rango wore one and Bob in Florida wore one literally last night. Seems like Chicago just wants to avoid the heat on them since they have been in enough hot water lately. Also could just be a lot of the players didn't want to wear them and the organization came up with this to avoid having heat on the players instead.

Also you would think Russia would have more of a problem with the military nights than this if it was actually true...

https://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/35920976/chicago-blackhawks-wear-pride-themed-jerseys?platform=amp

The decision was made by the NHL organization following discussions with security officials within and outside the franchise, according to a person familiar with the situation who spoke to the AP on Wednesday on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the move.

The Blackhawks have worn Pride warmup jerseys previously and donned special warmup jerseys on some other themed nights this season. There had been ongoing conversations about a Pride jersey with the players, according to the person who talked to the AP, but the organization made the decision to hold Pride Night without the jerseys this year.

The Florida Panthers -- whose star goaltender, Sergei Bobrovsky, is Russian -- went forward with plans to wear Pride-themed jerseys Thursday night before their home game against Toronto. Bobrovsky took part, while brothers Eric and Marc Staal did not, and cited religion as the reason.

RE: Chicago  -- It's BS excuse to save face, but the entire thing started as a marketing strategy by the league anyway. It is no different than a chain offering a rainbow drink on pride day or something. This was bound to happen once a player finally exercised their freedom to not participate-- now more players feel empowered to do the same. One positive is that it'll mean a lot more now moving forward because it doesn't feel so contrived and corporate with so many teams not doing it.

What I really don't get are things like like EDM putting rainbow tape on their sticks rather than jerseys recently...where is the line there? It's about the meaning behind the gesture, not the gesture. What difference is there between rainbow tape vs a rainbow jersey?

The Islanders have no fvcking business being in a playoff spot. When they got Horvat everyone thought they had no chance and would have to play at a very very high winning percentage to get a shot at the playoffs.

Then they lose Barzal and it was like OK now you have absolutely no chance. What are you doing Lou was the question…

The blame squarely falls on Ottawa Detroit Buffalo Washington for completely making the playoff race down the stretch a complete dud. before these teams sh!t the bed we were positioned for a really exciting race between a number of teams.

To their credit, the Isles really picked it up when it looked like their season was about to go off the rails...they're 14-5-3 in their last 22 GP.  Florida just had that nice surge, but no one else in that WC race was truly able to establish enough consistency.

Here's the other WC "contenders" records over their last 22 GP, for comparison:

Penguins:  10-11-1

Panthers:  13-8-1

Sabres:  7-12-3

Senators:  11-9-2

Red Wings:  10-11-1 (they actually started that run 7-1-0)

Capitals:  8-12-2

To be fair, it's not like Isles have completely left EVERYONE in the dust, but suffice it to say that I have a hard time thinking that the teams directly trailing the Isles will go on the kind of tears needed to knock the Isles out of their WC berth.

Speaking of Horvat...man has HE gone ice cold (most expected that to happen, as he is simply not that great offensively).  One assist in his last 9 GP...always sucks when bloated shooting%s inevitably normalize.  He is not worth what he's being paid.

Those records you list of teams playing for a playoff spot are pretty bad. As you said, the Isles have had a decent stretch but man they’ve had an easier path with the teams they’re fighting with posting those poor records.

As for Horvat, it doesn’t help him playing in that Islanders system either. It’s amazing that the Isles are winning games with him being invisible and Barzal being out. I think their schedule has been somewhat kind to them recently, so that could partially explain their surge, too.

Yeah quite a few of those young teams showed that they simply weren’t fully ready to turn the corner this season.  Some of them just wilted and died.

Isles do have goaltending…that helps.

Bad home loss for the Isles tonight.  Shut out at home by the SABRES?!  Ouch.

10 points in 22 games for Horvat as an Islander.  Still have won a good bit since his arrival though.

It’s too late for the Canucks this year, but looks like that team might be a legit playoff contender next season.  They’re 12-4-1 in their last 17 GP, and have beat some good teams during that stretch (including the Starts three times).

Boston doing us a solid versus Carolina, so far. 3-1 late in the second period.

3-3 in the third.  As we’ve seen a A LOT this season, two-goal leads are far from a sure thing these days.  Teams come back from them all the time.

The only good thing about that is they played Brass Bonanza two more times. It's Hartford Whalers Day.

Dammit, Canes banked a point.  They bank the second and I’m pretty much giving up on the Devils winning the Metro.  Even if the Canes don’t snag that second point, I just can’t see the Devils having much of a shot without getting a ton of help from unlikely sources.
