USC09
Lou is a Master or the Dark Horse: Lou Lamoriello is no stranger to making surprise and shocking moves you sometimes do not expect him to make. Take a look at the trade for Joe Nieuwendyk and Jamie Langenbrunner, two players no analyst had going to NJ at the time, simply because everyone thought both were on their way to Philly where they could have reunited with Ken Hitchcock for the 2002-2003 season. That same year in the summer it was a late Saturday Night trade for Jeff Friesen and Oleg Tverdovsky. That too me was way out of the blue. Then there was coaches, which I I know you guys a re tired to talk about, because most of you want Haviland or MacLean. The most shocking hires by Lou were Lemaire, Constantine and Pat Burns. Now here is one name that has not really come up in any discussion, but is still out there and that is former Avalanche and Thrashers coach Bob Hartley. For what reason might you ask? Well if the Devils were to resign Kovalchuk or not, Hartley is familiar with him and Ilya had his best years under him in Atlanta. But that is not the only reason. Another one is that he has won a cup with the Avalanche in 2001, probably for us Devils fans the worst game in team history in addition to Game 7 in 1994 vs Rangers and Game 7 in 2009 against Carolina. Maybe even the worst game ever since it was in the Finals and they were o so close. But Puck Daddy on NHL Live mentioned he believes the Devils need a coach with NHL experience and preferably one that has won a cup before and Bob Hartley could fit the bill since he does preach a shot blocking regime as Colorado was very good at it when he was there in shutting down any other teams passing lanes and shooting lanes. I do not know if he is the right fit, but he is one guy who Lou might target as his out of the blue move. Yours Truly, USC09
HellOnICE
NO TO BOB HARTLEY, NO TO BOB HARTLEY, NO TO BOB HARTLEY. There's a reason he hasn't been hired in years, let's just say - we shouldn't be the ones to take a chance on this guy.
Devs3cups
In my opinion, I think that hartley is finished. For my choice it's Haviland > Hartley.
USC09
I am not advocating Bob Hartley, I want Haviland. I wanted Guy Boucher first, now that he is gone Haviland is my choice.

Devil Dan 56
It would at least be a fun ride He could definitely make it interesting, but it's just not a Lou move. Plus, what's it say when the Isles run you out of town after you get them back into the playoffs? Nice guy though, got to meet him once for a brief minute. DevsMan84
Although Hartley would not be a bad choice, I think Haviland would be a better choice. I think it is time to start with a fresh coach who has a more attacking style of coaching. Hartley does have experience with dealing with stars, but honestly he did not have to do a lot of coaching with that early 00's Colorado team. MantaRay
Haviland seems to be a winner and a fresh start. I vote for Havilad over retreads any day.

Lemur
Haviland is up for the Atlanta job as well, where he would be reunited with Dale Tallon. I wouldn't count the chickens before they're hatched.

Triumph
NO TO BOB HARTLEY, NO TO BOB HARTLEY, NO TO BOB HARTLEY. There's a reason he hasn't been hired in years, let's just say - we shouldn't be the ones to take a chance on this guy. not only has he not been hired, i haven't even heard his name in consideration for an NHL job, i don't think. i just remember him getting fired in 07-08 - the devils power play was basically a disaster, with elias being used at the point - but hartley gave us that little push by playing an absurdly passive box. i think that was his last game with atlanta. MadDog2020
Well, for what it's worth, my mother was telling me that one of her co-workers plays hockey down in Brick and he ran into Jimmy Dowd last night at the rink and they chatted for a bit. When the guy asked Dowd what he thought about the coaching situation, Dowd told him that he's been talking up Haviland to Lou, but he has no idea if Lou will hire him or not. We'll see I guess. thelastonealive
According to TG in the comment section of his latest thread, Haviland hasn't been contacted by the Devils (as of Monday). By the way, from what I’ve been told, as of yesterday (Monday), the Devils had yet to contact Mike Haviland.
MadDog2020
According to TG in the comment section of his latest thread, Haviland hasn't been contacted by the Devils (as of Monday). Yeah, typical. Therrien will probably be the coach. And then hopefully Lou's family has him put in a fvcking nursing home.

jkrdevil
It's clear the Devils aren't going to leak who has been contacted and told possible candidates to not leak anything about being contact because so far every possible candidate mentioned (including Haviland, Thierren, Hitchcock) has not been contacted for the Devils. I doubt the Devils haven't contacted anyone about the job yet. Either that or it is going to be a real surprise.
