Pat Burns Takes Turn for worse

Ahhh this sucks. So very sad to hear this news. Damn....This is very very sad news to hear. :( Coach burns was one of my favorite coaches and was lucky enough to have him on the Devils and to win the SCC in 2003. I have met and had many conversations with Coach Burns over the years when he was in New Jersey and the practices use to be in SMA back then. He is a great human being and such a very nice person. I am upset about this news and it will be very sad when he passes away.

The fact that he has fought this disease for so long , and so hard says everything about Pats amazing character and strength.

He always seems like such a greatful and humble person whenever he speaks, especially about the Devils, im sure everyone associated with the Devils is truly greatful for everything he has helped the organisation achieve and the manner in which he did it.

So sad.

Always loved, never forgotten Burnsie :saddevil:

I don't know where the Hall of fame museum is , but someone should go down there this weekend and hang a Burns Devils jersey in there.

Ok I confess all I can think is "Ahm not dead yet"

If Pat wants to keep up the fight I send him strength. If he needs a rest but wants to stay around, I send him strength and awareness to keep up the fight. If he wants to head out - I send him my blessings and thanks.

There's no regrets or anger over stuff like the HoF -- he'll be there, he can rest assured of that :)

Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello said this morning that he spoke with Pat Burns Thursday and the former Devils coach is “fighting this like anybody would fight it.”

Burns, who coached the Devils to their third Stanley Cup in 2003, is battling terminal lung cancer and reportedly has taken a turn for the worse that may result in that fight ending in the next few days. Lamoriello said the entire Devils coaching staff spoke with Burns this week and several players also keep in touch with Burns on their own.

“He’s family,” Lamoriello said.

From TG's blog.

Keep fighting pat.

What a fighter. I lost my grandfather to pancreatic cancer a few years ago, and i'm sure many of our posters have lost someone to cancer. To see one of our best coaches reach this point, it hits especially close to home. What amazes me is that Pat's kept such a positive outlook through this whole thing. He's not going to leave without a fight. Burnsie is already, and has been, a Hall of Famer in my book.
