Devils next coach

Personally I would like to see Scott Stevens get a chance.

Any other thoughts?

JL is going nowhere for the time being. His post-game press conference proves that he really wants to stay. If he were to leave, however, I predict Johny Mac finally getting a chance, with Scotty Stevens and Tommy Albelin as assistants. Chris Terreri remains goalie coach.

In a really unlikely and definitely improbable scenario, Peter Laviolette resigns from Philly (ha ha ha), and we sign him to coach us. After all, he is the thorn in our side!

Maybe he brings Claude Giroux with him too

I wouldn't mind seeing MacLean nor Stevens

lemaire is gone. i think lou will ask him to resign so they can both save face. they can make it sound like however they want but he's out. if he's here next year, what does that say about THIS year? no heart and a room-coach division is acceptable?

i'm not a fan of retread coaches anymore - hitchcock, heartly, guys like that - no thanks.

I think a MacLean/Stevens is interesting but the dynamic is a bit wrong. it's johnny mac's team but stevens is looked to for that "leadership quotient?"

Johnny mac fo sho

wasnt Johnny Mac responsible for our horrible offense 2 years ago when we got ousted in the first round?

I'd like to see Lou think outside the box on this one and take a coach having nothing to do with the current Devils organization (past or present).

Of course, something tells me Lemaire is coming back.. i dont know why i feel it, but i do.

Although I didn't like what Jacques said after the game in the press conference..."I told a player what to do on the powerplay, and he couldn't answer why he didn't do it..."

I still think Jacques is a good coach. He needs the right players. You can't get rid of the coach all the time. We've become used to that since 2004-2005, and it has yielded no results.

I'm convinced there was an issue in the locker room. I'm convinced of this. Rewarding mediocrity (like Niedermayer, McCammond and Rolston) could have had an effect.

The constant line changes were also problematic, but hey, keeping the same exact lines was also a problem for Sutter.

Jacques was NOT the problem, although he was unable to right the ship when it started to sink...

Colin White?!?!?! We would have been better off with a sumo wrestler in front of the net, you don't experiment with a big oaf in front with zero skill...not in Game 5 of a playoff series! I honestly thought Lemaire was daring Lou to fire him when I saw that.

Of course JL wants to comeback. This is his last coaching job and no coach wants to go out like this. However, it isn't his decision at this point and he is as good as gone.

As for my choice I would go with Haviland. It is fresh blood and hopefully a new direction.

You emphasized the wrong word. Lemaire was not THE problem. He was PART of the problem. But he was a BIG part of the problem with his failure to adjust, coupled with his clown-like line juggling and at-times assanine line-up decisions (such as the Fraser debacle in game 3). Riddle me this: If Lemaire and his coaching staff aren't the problem, then why the hell was Lou smashing jelly jars while screaming his balls off at Lemaire and his coaching staff after game 4? Lemaire will not be back. He did a horrible job, and he couldn't get this group of underachieving losers to stop being a group of underachieving losers. In fact, they lost even worse, and with worse effort, than they did the previous 2 years. It's time for a new voice, and some MAJOR personnel changes as well. The last 3 years is plenty more than enough evidence to know this group isn't working.

Haviland was my first choice last spring, and he's my first choice now. Go get him Lou.

I just posted this over on Hockeysfuture, but I thought I'd stick it here to.

I am not saying I am a HUGE Jacques Lemaire supporter. BUT, this team needs some friggin consistency in its coaching staff. Since JL was here from 1993-98, this team has not had a single coach that lasted more then 3 years behind the bench. THAT IS A PROBLEM. Let these players learn a system and get used to it. It is hard on players not knowing who there coach may be from season to season. And the worst of it, a few of the coaches were not let go after TERRIBLE seasons. Claude Julien was let go just prior to the playoffs during a year we were winning.

I realize there are exceptions, where Pat Burns and Larry Robinson both stepped down due to health concerns and we all know the Brent Sutter story. But the bottom line is this team needs some consistency in its coaching staff.

Sutter was supposed to be that consistency, but he missed the moo-moo cows.

This is why I say JL needs to stay. Give him a second year and see what he can do. I hate to call this a rebuilding year, but in a way you could almost chock it up to that. Call this the year it takes the players to get used to the system and move on. Next year will be better. This is my team, through thick and thin. I am not done with them by any means. I can't imagine myself ever rooting for any other team.

By no means do I think I am smarter then Lou or JL but these are my thoughts on what I think will happen. Lemaire will be here next year as will the majority of the team you see this year. Martin will most likely be back and we NEED him. I hope we can resign Kovy, not sure if we can get that done but I hope we can. Beyond that, I think Lou may need to reevaluate how he does some things on the business end. We all know Lou does not like to talk about extensions but I think he should extend Parise NOW rather then wait the year or two (I forget how much time he has left) and risk losing him to UFA or facing a nasty arbitration case. Lets lock up Parise long term, he is the future of this team.

I really think Mathew Corrente will be up here with the big club next year and will fit in well. Not sure who he would play with, but I definitely see him staying with the Devils all year.

Just my 2 cents, feel free to disagree. I realize I may not be making the most sense right now but its late. DEVILS IN 2011!!
