  1. As long as he doesn't do something stupid with the pick like trade it to Calgary for Markstrom.

  2. He apparently didn’t watch the Predators this season, as he should know by now that Brunette was clearly the mastermind behind last season’s success.

  3. Yeah, suddenly the Sabres and the Sens are the teams that know what the hell they're doing? Since WHEN?!

  4. Bortuzzo is a UFA and is a guy I wanted several years ago and doesn't cost a lot. I don't think he is someone that would play every game or anything but he's basically a big pain in the ass; basically what we want Bahl to be.

  8. I'll pull an opinion out of my ass. Maybe if Hamilton doesn't get hurt the power play doesn't go in the toilet and the Devils win a few more games. (OOOOH that means jack Dawkins is right IT WASN'T THE COACHING!)😛😱

  9. That’s a hell of a take given how bad Lindy and Green are at their jobs.

  12. I would have been ALL for Lindy being canned earlier and Berube being brought aboard, but we know the deal…Fitz wanted it to work with Ruff. Sadly when Fitz finally saw the damned light, I don’t think he had any real Plan B; hence, the pivot to Green. Speaking of Green, Dreger reporting that Ottawa hiring him is just about done, and a press conference will follow on Wed. And the response from Sens fans that I’ve read…well, let‘s just say that they ain’t happy.

  13. I think heads would explode if the Devils won the lottery AGAIN. And if by some miracle the Devils actually do win the lottery…….. Look out below, as it opens up all kinds of possibilities.

  17. I understand your perspective, and I'm not too far off from it. I guess I'm just more willing to give him a very slight pass for last season. He had a decent season when he was paired with Hamilton, but if he plays like this past season I'm all for cutting ties with him. Let one of the young guys take his spot or make a move. The coaching change could make a huge difference. No disrespect was felt, bud. Everyone has their opinions. Part of why I enjoy this board.

  19. Going back to the Larsson draft, we’ve “won” the lottery four times in like 13 drafts, right? Cant be too disappointed.

  20. Between the need for a G and the rose colored rumors of Brady Tkachuk I think the pick had a high likelihood of being traded regardless of what happened.

  21. Yeah we gotta see what Fitz is able to land. He’s talked the “big fish” talk, now we’ll see where that leads. But I don’t think Fitz envisions Allen as his #1.
    2 points
  22. Re: Allen, he’s here as the vet backup. C’mon, every NHL goalie should be able to start 50 games or they’re not NHL-worthy? There’s plenty of room in the NHL for solid backups who are expected to start 20-30 games in any given season.

  23. Allen can’t handle a starter’s workload at his age. They would basically be conceding another year if they go into next season with that as their plan.

  24. Without a doubt, but that’s not getting it done by itself.

  25. Hopefully not interviewing with the Devils. Boudreau is a notorious playoff choker, and Gallant has been run out of town everywhere he’s been. When they fired him in Florida they literally refused to even let him on the team bus and made him take a cab to the airport they were so done with him.

  26. No way they'd be this stupid to leak the results, right

  28. Not like Berube doesn't have any say in this. If he has his heart set on the Leafs job (should it become available) and the Leafs want him, not much Fitz is going to be able to do about it.

  29. And also how bad Buffalo and Ottawa are as organizations.
    2 points
  30. Yes, this is a step in the right direction, albeit a small one. Now that Green is out of the picture, Fitz needs to intensify his pursuit of Berube so that another team (e.g., Toronto) doesn’t have an opportunity to swoop in and grab him.

  31. Jack Dawkins is a freelance scout, analyst and avid watcher of "way too much hockey." He has joined The Hockey Writers team to cover all things Washington Capitals, New Jersey Devils, Minnesota Wild, Los Angeles Kings, Arizona Coyotes and Florida Panthers. He's an absolute data hound and loves using stats and analytics to calculate and extrapolate data for analysis. Jack Dawkins (thehockeywriters.com) In the end, just another ubermetrics dude with an opinion. I had never heard of him either.

  32. What this tells you, regarding Fitz and Green: Fitz was saying and doing just enough not to burn a bridge in case he felt like his other options weren't going to work out, but Green was NOT his man. Like I said in an earlier post, Fitz absolutely had all of the time in the world to ditch the interim tag and commit to Green, if he felt that strongly about him. Glad this most brief coaching moment in Devils history has officially become just that: a brief moment. Still hoping for Berube when all is said and done. If nothing else, Fitz scored some points today. A number of fans were concerned about him almost blindly sticking with Green, and that's a concern we can joyfully put behind us. Not sure WTF Ottawa is thinking.

  33. I saw on twitter someone trying to spin it as a problem in the organization cause both of those losers were hired. ignoring one went back to a failure of a franchise and the other was hired by a failure of a franchise

  37. Dougie, Luke, Marino, and Nemec are locks to be part of the defense. Smith will be gone, and I think Bahl may be, too, as he’s not shown anything to suggest he’s an NHL player. He’s 6’7” and plays as though he’s my size (5’7”). I don’t really want Siegenthaler back, but he’s coming off a down season and probably wouldn’t fetch much via trade, especially given the length of his contract, so he’s probably part of the top six, with guys like DeSimone, Hatakka, and Collin Miller competing for the seventh spot. That leaves one spot open, which I’m hoping is given to a physical, defensive-minded veteran.

  39. Unfortunately he would need to be traded for. He's still signed for 2 more years

  40. I wouldn't hate it if they gave DeSimone another shot as a depth dman. He did much better than I think most assumed he would, even if he barely played. I think I can only recall one "wtf were you thinking" play he made, as opposed to the regular blunders by Bahl, Smith, or Siegs. Almost think that Hatakka should get that role, though I'm hesitant to throw Casey in the mix just yet, unless he makes a strong case for himself in training camp. As great as Luke and Nemec were, we all saw how having too many rookie dman can turn out. As for UFAs, I'd need to take a look at who's available. Would be nice to have a shutdown guy who can throw the body

  41. The fact that two NHL GM's saw our coaching performance over the course of this year and said " oooo yeah, we want to get in on that" is staggering.

  43. Apparently, he didn’t watch many Canucks games when he was coach either.

  44. I lean towards no. The guy can obviously play and does put up numbers, and sometimes guys just need a change of scenery. But only so much money to go around and the Devils are already paying their share of forwards and will be paying good money for Luke and Nemec before we know it. And they may have to pay up for a goalie, if they're able to land an established vet. I touched on it before, but I don't think he's going to command the kind of return the Leafs would like, because his cap hit for 2024-25 isn't light, he's a UFA at the end of the year, and he's getting tagged with the "loser" label.
