Just one time, I want to see a Devils coach go full Ftorek and completely lose his sh!t on the refs.  Because goddamn they screw the Devils a lot.

That being said, gutty win…and somehow managed to pound their opponent in SOG differential yet again.  Devils are now 7-1 in their last 8 and have outscored those teams 32 - 15.  That’s really fvcking good.

Hopefully it centers around how they got the best player in the 2017 draft...or maybe now its just best forward since Makar was the pick before Petterson.  Either way, spoiler alert: They got neither.

Easy to talk about the positives and there are so many, but I’ll be brief because there’s only so much you can say about how wonderful this team looks. 

The good:

• Devils started the game being outshot 7-1. They finished the game outshooting vancouver 36-16. Domination, again. 
• Nico/Bratt/Hughes/Mercer is an offensive core like I’ve never seen as a Devils fan. They’re so young, so fast and so talented. They’re all also such unique players which is a blast to watch. 
• Speaking of Mercer, it won’t be long until he’s a vocal leader of this team. The interview he gave in the 2nd intermission was incredible. 

The bad:

• Brendan Smith and Tomas Tatar cannot continue to see ice time. “But it’s working” isn’t a legitimate excuse. If you drive drunk 10 days in a row without a problem, it doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to do. One or both of these guys will lose us hockey games soon. 
• Severson is playing with an anchor but he’s also just looked really, really bad this year. Trade him for a forward while there’s still some value you can squeeze out of him. Get Tatar off the first line. 
• Graves has been good this year but had a horrible game. He’s allowed a few clunkers of course. 

The ugly:

• Worst officiated game I can remember. The NHL owes the devils an explanation as to why Miles Wood was boarded, then was instigated to fight, then was punched repeatedly in the head while the refs tried to break the fight up, then was repeatedly punched in the head by a second guy who flew into the pile, and then watched the Devils go on the penalty kill. 
• Brucey Butterball. He’s really fvcking ugly.
• Ok so like Quinn Hughes isn’t ugly but why is Jack so fvcking beautiful to look at compared to Luke and Quinn?

For sure. Even when I look at the 4th line, the only guy I'd even consider taking out is McLeod and even he looked good tonight. Bastian isn't scoring like he did in that stretch last season but he is just making good plays on both ends of the ice.

It's a good day to be alive when the Devils are ripping the rest of the league a new ass on the ice all week and our biggest worries are when we can jettison Tatar and Smith to the moon.

EDM going to be a real test. They put up 7G tonight on Nashville but Nashville had 60 hits. That seems like a ton. The goals were basically all McJesus and Kane though.

I wonder if Bo picked it for his personal song... if not I'm starting to come around on this 80s classics as goal song trend (Toronto with Hall and Oates, St. Louis with Gloria((not a goal song, I know)), etc)

Quinn looks like the guys who just graduated high school after his 5th year, but he still hangs around the school because he sells his little brother’s friends weed.

A year ago I would have went to bed with a 4-1 lead on a west coast game and woken to a 6-4 loss. This is a very different Devils. Looked great for the half game or so I saw. They had a history of very sluggish western Canada trips so let’s just keep enjoying this. We’ve earned it

With recent Devils teams, that sluggish start would've have seen the Devils trailing 2-0...but Mac made a batch of key saves and the Devils were able to end the first period up 2-0.  In the third, had the Devils been up 4-1 last year, the Canucks would've made it 4-2 earlier on in the period, then the running around would've started, then Canucks would've made it 4-3, with the Devils already looking beaten...at that point, Ruff would've called timeout, and nASS would've imparted some of his brilliance and wisdom on what to do...so that would mean that the Canucks would've tied it up 4-4 roughly 10 seconds after play resumed.  And then they would've gone on to lose in a shootout.

I could tell that the Devils weren't at their best last night (that's going to happen), but I never got the sense that they were never panicking...it helps that Mac was there to make some big saves...he really had a terrific game yesterday.

The part they use is also particularly odd as it's pretty flat after the initial intro.

It kinda-sorta works for me (not saying it's great or anything),but I grew up in the 80s...I'm guessing only people in my age group would get it on any level, and almost strictly due to amused nostaglia.  It is too out there for a goal song, I absolutely agree with you on that.  I give them some kudos for thinking a little outside the box, but for a goal song, you want something that the masses can get into.  That song doesn't fit the bill.

The Flyers tried "This Girl" as their goal song last season (another "out there" kind of choice)...I actually found it kind of fun, but their fan base DESPISED it.  They killed it after just one year.
