Why does everyone bash that song..who gives a f*ck if it is used for soccer...plus its the Bouncing Souls version of it (a NEW JERSEY punk band) A lot of the European players on the team, like Elias, are big fans of soccer anyway, so I am sure they don't mind it. Plus you said it drowns out the crowd...I am a big fan of the Devils but have you been to a game lately? What crowd?

THANK YOU! I didn't specify earlier, but the fact that it's a New Jersey band singing it is a HUGE plus in my book.

Someone earlier mentioned "Bring Tha Noize"...I gotta admit...that one intrigues me...

Everyone bashes the song because it sucks. Not only does it suck for hockey, it just sucks in general. It's not just that it's used for soccer, it's just a horrible goal song and doesn't get any of the fans involved. On the contrary, it causes the fans to shut up and sit down because it just doesn't feel right. And as for the Bouncing Souls, I am willing to bet anything that 70% of Devils fans have no idea who sings the goal song, and probably at least 90% don't even know they are from New Jersey. When people think of New Jersey music, there is nobody who thinks of the Bouncing Souls. I have lived in Jersey all 19 years of my life and never even heard of the Bouncing Souls until the Devils put the goal song poll on their site. Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen are pretty much the only well-known artists associated with New Jersey.

Have YOU been to a game lately? I am assuming that since you aren't from the area that is probably not something you do often, but if you make a trip up here for a few games you would be able to see the effect it has on the fans and the lack of excitement after a goal compared to everyone on their feet chanting "HEY!" like last year and previous years.

I think the Ole song sucks and I feel dumb singing it. And it just feels weird to be played at a hockey game. I think Ole, I think soccer. The drunk kids yell it at my college's hockey games when we score and the only time I have ever particpated is when I was drunk too. It's just sounds awkward in my opinion. I mean, back in high school we use to play the Hey song after we scored and that was okay, but I could never imagine playing Ole. That being said, arguing over a song is really trivial and I don't even know why I care. I think they should switch it up every few games and see what works and what the crowd responses the most too.

Ha Ha this thread is glorious ... man we have no problems..

I wouldnt mind it if they used Ole as one of the goal songs and maybe Whoo Hoo.. for another and maybe bring Whoomp there it is.... and another... wait we never score that many :doh1:

Hey I made the whoomp there it is comment once.. :) I said we might as well just use that :) Me and El D..great minds...

Anyhooooo.. i just stand during the horn, clap away, and then sit when Ole is starting. I dont love the song but its hardly a concern of mine when im watching or at a hockey game!

First off...liking the song or not is a matter of opinion. Saying that it doesn't get the crowd involved is retarded...the whole idea of having a song like that to celebrate a goal is obvious because of its "easy-to-chant" "lyrics". Its simple, and it DOES get the crowd involved. I was at a game a few weeks ago and everyone was on their feet chanting along with it...you can even hear the crowd on TV. As far as the Bouncing Souls being not as well known as The Boss or Bon Jovi, I am not surprised. But I would much rather hear an established crowd song like Ole, then "Born in the USA" or "Livin' on a Prayer". Plus do you hear any other hockey team with that song? No. But it seems EVERYONE used that damn Gary Glitter "HEY" song at one point...learn to branch out and embrace the different

Secondly I was born and raised in NJ and spent roughly 22 years of my life in the Garden State, and again, I have seen the effect on fans...the general consenus I got was that it was fine...people sang along, clapped, and cheered...what more do you want?

Yeah, it is an opinion. My opinion is that I don't like the song. Other people like the song. Good for them. Yay America, yay freedom of speech. And it's also someone's OPINION if they believe that the Ole song does/does not get the crowd invovled. It's not like we know a definitive answer that question, it's a matter of opinion. You can't really test that. Some people chant, some people don't regardless of song. And it's not like they'd ever have a song like "Born in the USA" as a song to be played after a goal. That makes no sense and I don't think anyone was really suggesting that. Now *that* would be awkward. Point being, no one really cares that The Bouncing Souls are from NJ. The Ole song irks me, but it's not going to make me not want to go to games or make me not want to cheer when the Devils score.

And I can't believe I'm still talking about this. Haha.. but whatever... I think they should just rotate it. And I hope one day I can get a job where one of my top priorities is to find the most effective cheer song.:P

I wouldn't have had any idea the band that played that song is from NJ. Nor do I honestly care. If you wanna support a band from NJ, buy their CD, that's fine with me. That doesn't mean I have to like the bastardized version of Ole that plays - which is part of the reason I haven't liked the song at the arena, give me the authentic version at least :P

I read something by a representative of the Devils who said that there was a change recently to how royalties were being calculated and had the song not been dropped by the NFL and NHL, he would have recieved _more_ money this year than he did in recent years past.

It's insulting to the intellegence of his readers to even think to put possession of marijuana in the same realm as having sex with 13 year olds.

I like it, but it seems out of place at Devils games. In Montreal it's a tradition... at some point in the game when they want to whip the fans into a frenzy, they play the song and EVERYONE sings along. It seems like we're ripping off someone elses idea... I'd prefer to find something original that we can make our own.

I don't know about the song being dropped by the NHL because I have heard it played by various teams (Center Ice). So if the NHL did indeed drop it, they aren't enforcing the ban or giving teams time to find another song? I've can recall hearing it a Pens, Preds and Ducks games. I think even Hawks and Blues? LA? I waiting for the Sharks to score so I can hear what they play. I know I've heard it a lot.

Absolutely no comparison to pot possession and child molestation. I think out of the bazillion songs out there, the Devils could find a goal song all their own.

True. Both the NHL and NFL sent out letters REQUESTING that teams stop using the song. It was up to each team to decide whether to abide the request from head office or not. According to wikipedia (insert standard disclaimer) several NFL teams had decided to cut the song before the request came from head office.

As much as I don't like the 'Ole' song, I would've liked to have heard it more than twice yesterday.

From personal observation, fans stood up longer and cheered louder during R&R Part 2 than they do for the 'Ole' song. If circumstances dictated that a pedophile wouldn't benefit financially, I'd love R&R Part 2 to come back, but that's never going to happen. But whether or not 'Ole' remains or is replaced, it's obvious that no song exists that will have such a universal appeal that every Devils fan will embrace it. So from now on, I don't care what song is played, as long as I hear it a lot.

I agree. Just as long as I don't have to hear that "woo hoo" song by Blur.

If Gary Glitter dies or is found not guilty of pedophelia do we get to hear R&R pt. 2 again?

Glitter May Get Early Prison Release

AP

HANOI, Vietnam (AP)- Former British glam rocker Gary Glitter, convicted of molesting two Vietnamese girls, may be released early from his three-year sentence, a prison official said Wednesday.

Glitter, 62, is on a list of inmates being considered for early release as part of next month's Lunar New Year celebrations, said Tran Huu Thong, director of the Thu Duc detention center, where Glitter is being held. Vietnam traditionally reduces the terms of inmates with good prison records at that time of year.

If his sentence is reduced, Glitter could be released as early as May.

Glitter, whose real name is Paul Francis Gadd, was convicted in March 2006 of committing "obscene acts with children." The incidents involved two girls, ages 10 and 11, from the southern coastal city of Vung Tau.

Under Vietnamese law, prisoners can be nominated for early release if they have behaved well and their fellow inmates recommend it. Nearly everyone in the jail voted for Glitter's early release, Thong said, and nearly all the prisoners recommended for early release receive it.

"He meets all the criteria," Thong said of Glitter, whose crowd-pleasing anthem "Rock and Roll (Part 2)" is still played at sporting events.

Glitter was arrested in November 2005 in Vung Tau, where he had been living for about six months.

He was convicted in Britain in 1999 of possessing child pornography, and served half of a four-month jail term.

He later went to Cambodia but was expelled from that country in 2002. Cambodian officials didn't specify a crime or file charges against him.

His fellow inmates are probably recommending his early release because he keeps signing R&R2.

R&R part II is unbelievable. So many memories of important goals scored to that song. I say the social benefit and good feelings of the song being played outweigh the pain of monetary compensation going to a creep. He may be a scumbag but he still wrote an amazing song, and I want to hear it.

Anyone who doesn't attend the games can't whine about what song is being played. That's like half the board.

I still hear that crap Ole song on the TV, and I don't like it.

I do not like it at CAA. I do not like it on TVay.

I do not like to hear it at home nor do I like it where the Devils roam.

I do not like Ole I say.

Please make that song just go away!

The friggin YMCA song would even be better. At least you could laugh at that one instead of pukin. :doh1:

I still say P.O.D. would kickass. :D

I never thought I'd see the day when Masked Fan would go Dr. Seuss on us.

I don't care whether or not they bring back R&RP2. However, Ole needs to go. It completely does not fit the Devils. Screw the Mets; maybe if they had tried a little hard to get the Devils on SNY it wouldn't be so bad to copy their playlist, but since we're not in bed with the Mets, we oughta get out of their music collection.

It's too bad the "Crowd Chant" option that was presented during the voting sounds too much like the Rangers song, otherwise I'd definitely go with that.
