raistlinmajere30
We recently found out that my sister had a tumor on her heart. It's been growing for a few years now and just began to break apart and cause, what we now know to be, mini strokes. We were told by doctors for the past couple of years that these strokes were actually seisures and she had epilepsy. So now we know thats not true, and we would not have been alerted to this if my sister hadn't started coughing up blood on Thursday. We took her to a specialist and from there we found out she had a tumor on her heart and needed open heart surgery. Saturday was her surgery and she seems to be recovering well but I would still ask that you keep Leah in your prayers. . she has been burdened with so much all her life. Cancer and a brain tumor when she was only 7 years old, causing brain damage and many problems from there on.. bad eyesight, hearing problems (fixed with a hearing aid), a very weak immune system, stunted growth, paralysis on the left side of her face, poor balance and so much more. So please, keep my sister in your prayers. -Janelle

raistlinmajere30
Thank you so much everyone for your kind words and thoughts. Leah seems to be doing well, they got her walking a little bit. One step at a time she's doing better. I think she's still a little confused to whats going on, she keeps asking why she's in the hospital but remembers it all once we tell her. I too have a sister that is burdened by health problems but, after many surgeries and countless Doctor visits is doing as well now as she's ever done since her diagnosis. You are in my prayers, don't lose sight that there will be better days ahead. I'm sorry to hear about her problems, I hope she lives healthy from here on! raistlinmajere30
Thank you very much for the prayers. We need them still, Leah's been having quite a bit of seisures lately. I guess they weren't mini strokes after all, they WERE seisures. We've managed to catch her before she fell each time so she hasn't been hurt by them yet but they're still scary. Its not hard for a doctor to do a CAT scan or an MRI. One of those or both right there would have found the tumor on her heart super fast and they could have treated it then. Its not hard for a doctor to do a CAT scan or an MRI. One of those or both right there would have found the tumor on her heart super fast and they could have treated it then. Spoken like a true person who thinks Doctors should know all. Just sue us for your bad luck. Someone comes in with seizures and meets the criteria for the disease, they are treated for that disease. You don't CAT scan somene's heart that has seizures. Not to say they can't cause seizures - they obviously can - but you can't do a full body scan on everyone that comes into the hospital. Sometimes people present with things that seem obvious only when you look at them in retrospect. The world isn't filled with cases like you see on House, solved in 2 days - sometimes the patients signs and symptoms don't point to the true cause. Can you imagine doing a CAT scan on everyone that comes into the hospital with a headache? Sure, some of these people have brain tumors that are initially missed and it would be easy to look back at that Doctor and say he was wrong not to order a scan; was he also wrong not to order it on the 9999 other people who had headaches without the tumor? Don't want this to turn into a thread on medical malpractice, my thoughts and prayers are still with your sister and her uphill battle back to health. I understand what you are talking about but given her past history with a tumor on her brain they should have been more thorough. I mean thats why doctors ask for and keep patient history correct? If I a completely healthy 31 year old man walked into a hospital tomorrow for seizures and was diagnosed with epilepsy I would not think it could be something else because I have no history. However she DOES have a history of tumors therefore like I said they should have done a scan to be sure. Sorry but this was just simply a poor job done by her doctors and you know it. No I don't believe doctors have all the right answers but Jesus H. Christ... the friggen answer was right there in her medical history and they just shoved it aside like it had 0 relevance.
