Philadelphia as a whole won't be either if this is true and goes down. Personally, i don't like the idea of having an owner who owns another pro franchise like a NBA team. It's one too many teams to divide attention and in the business of pro sports, attention to your product is everything especially a team in need of a marketing makeover, a franchise player and a return to contender status. He'll be on his way to being a potential franchise player when he's officially the #1 goaltender, performing/winning games like one and, most importantly, has a long term deal. Right now on 8/7/13, he's a newly acquired player with 2 years left and having to replace a living legend at any moment. The truth is, while he may yet be that at some point, he is not right now. He might not ever be, either, but he's going to have the chance he wasn't going to get in Vancouver. For the Devils sake, it must happen for him. Then he's got to be paid. Relax, it's almost over for Brodeur and it's going to come faster then we all think. He leveraged The team to the max in order to build the Rock. He's held on as long as he could, but it takes major cash to be the sole owner of a professional franchise, and he doesn't have the cash or credit line to carry much further. Lou Lamoriello is 70, if he were 60 i'd not have a concern and i'd feel more secure. But,how much more does he have left to make sure the franchise doesn't turn into the red headed stepchild of an NBA owner? Does he want to work for a owner he might not have the contact/input/power with as much as he did McMullen or VBK? More importantly, will a new owner want Lou especailly if a new owner's plans aren't what Lou wants. As much as VBK needs to leave asap the right person needs to buy this team, too. It can't be the first person with a billion to their name. VBK might not be able to be that picky, though and i hope that doesn't lead to the wrong choice. Owners rarely know as much as GMs. Replacing Lou is obviously going to be incredibly tough, but that has nothing to do with the owner. As long as we have someone who is willing and able to spend enough money (players, front office, and scouts) to compete and is smart enough to stay out of the way of the hockey people, we're in good shape. There aren't as many rich morons running hockey teams as other sports, but there are plenty of examples in the other 3 sports (Dan Snyder and Dolan are the first that come to mind) of people who got massively involved in their team and forced their GMs to do something stupid. There's been a ton of speculation here that the reason the Devils offered Kovalchuk a stupid contract, a move that was completely out of character for Lou, was VBK forcing it. Howard Eskin is a butthole and a leprechaun pimp. He likes to stir the pot and drum up ratings for his radio show (just Google "Howard Eskin Charlie Manuel" to get an idea of his trolling). Philadelphia doesn't really care about the 76ers, so it wouldn't surprise me if this just is a way for Eskin to get more slope-browed, knuckle-dragging Philly callers into his radio show saying "Duurrrrrr, send Harris up da Turnpike, and he can take da Sixers wid him, durrrr." 2) More to that last line there ... if this isn't just a ratings stunt being passed off as a report (akin to what we're used to getting from the NY Post), then maybe this does open the door to the 76ers possibly relocating to Newark. The fan base there couldn't possibly be worse than what the team is currently dealing with in Philly right now. Edit: Just wanted to add that TG is on this now. Apparently Harris got involved once Barroway's sales agreement technically expired. He says Barroway is still in the picture: Barroway’s group is still heavily involved in attempting to buy the Devils, a source said, and already has gone far down the road in reaching deals with the NHL and the banks. In fact, according to a Forbes report in late June, Barroway’s group already loaned the Devils $30 million to help solidify their financial situation and cover pension and escrow payments. Another source indicated that Barroway was to incrementally invest more money in the Devils until the sale was completed with current owner Jeff Vanderbeek still maintaining a minority stake in the team – the percentage of which was still to be determined. Vanderbeek might also continue with a minority stake in the Devils if Harris’ group follows through with its bid.
